I agree I think Curt Schilling should stay in the NL.....oh wait....thanks for the World Series Curt....nope he's good, he can stay.

Even more reason for him to have stayed in the NL

Clearly the numbers show that a pitcher will do better in the NL. However there are more 10+ winners in the American League with a 4.00 ERA. How is it Roger Clemens can have a 1.87 ERA with 13 wins but David Wells can have 15 wins with over a 4.00 ERA. If either the Red Sox or Yankees can get pitchers who can go to the AL and keep a mid 3.50 ERA or so....then you have an excellent pitcher on your hands. Thats hard to do though. In the case of AJ Burnett he has great stuff he just needs to be consistant with it. Before September he had only given up 4+ earned runs in a game 5 times. You do that with the Sox or Yanks and you have a 20 game winner on your hands.

I get what you're saying, but do you feel comfortable giving this guy a 5 year deal in light of recent somewhat high profile NL pitchers who went to the AL?

That being said I don't want to see him land in Toronto. Having to face Halladay, Burnett, Chacin, and Lilly is not much fun for either the Red Sox or Yankees.

No, but facing a lineup like this is really fun...well unless you're Brandon Arroyo

The Red Sox met Wednesday night with Darek Braunecker, the agent for free-agent right-hander A.J. Burnett. Like the Mets, the Red Sox almost certainly would trade other starting pitchers if they signed Burnett. Left-hander David Wells has requested a trade to a west-coast club, and right-hander Matt Clement also could be dealt.

Bronson Arroyo is in that list as well most likely.

Woah thats the first time I have seen Matt Clement's name being mentioned with the word "trade" next to it. So who would you rather have....Matt Clement or AJ Burnett?? Now that I know what Matt Clement can do I'll take AJ Burnett but I don't wanna pay him stupid money just to get hurt.

A.J. Burnett: Blue Jays Offer $50 Million Deal

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com

Thursday, November 17, 2005

Update: According to ESPN.com, the Toroto Blue Jays have offered Burnett a five-year deal worth approximately $50 million.

Recommendation: This move comes as no surprise as the Blue Jays have been a part of the Burnett bidding since the beginning. Despite the offer, Burnett's agent, Darek Braunecker, says he is still talking and fielding offers from nine other clubs.

Burnett really isn't that bad though. Pavano was 4-6 with a 4.37 ERA and pitched in 17 games cause he was injured for so long and was on the Yankees who were number two in the MLB in runs scored in the league. Burnett was 12-12 with a 3.44 ERA and he was on Florida who was 19 in the league in runs scored. And the guy had 198 SO in 209 Innings which is pretty good. I don't see how Burnett is the Carl Pavano of last year. Pavano was a huge bust for the Yankees when they signed him. Burnett is going to be the complete opposite given the right team this guy can be amazing.

I will not doubt his talent. I always thought he had the best stuff on the Marlins pitching staff. I'm not sure his head is all there but if he can stay focused and be on his game he could be lethal. Those are some serious questions and throwing lots of money at him is a risk.....but there could be huge reward. If he went to Toronto he would have to face the Yanks, Sox, Orioles, and Devil Rays (all good offensive teams) and that will make things difficult for him. Without question the team he goes to can be a huge difference....but his talent could also be the difference.

somewhat off the subject but did you hear the red sox are trying to trade for josh beckett . I've always liked him. so if you could have schilling as your number 1 then beckett than burnett wakefield papelbon you have an amazing lineup ... I also read this morning in the paper that there is alot of interest out there for matt clement and the red sox would look for a 1st baseman in a trade.

Honestly I don't think we could get anything good for Arroyo. Might as well keep him as a long reliever in the pen.

I agree...he is cheap but getting close to 30 believe it or not....he is a good fit in Boston and I don't think he would be upset moving to the bullpen. He would be more valuable pitching 50-70 innings out of the pen vs. 170 in the rotation. Not to mention he is excellent to spot start when needed.
