if you do sign myers and he pitches like he did the end of last year, your pen will be fine. He is much better than any lefty the yankees have had since mike stanton.

they still need to get 1or2 more pitchers and a CF. Crosby wont cut it in NY. I think the yankees should try getting a guy like Jason michaels. Maybe a deal with jaret wright could work to get michaels.

FROM-ROTOWORLD

How 'bout that Jason Michaels? Before you write him off as a platoon player, consider a few things.

He hits well against both lefties and righties.

He's hit .291/.380/.442 in 808 career Major League at-bats.

Considering his above average defense, he's probably better than Johnny Damon, right now. Damon is older and will probably make at least ten times Michaels' salary in 2006. Many say Michaels is on the trading block now that Aaron Rowand is in tow - his new team would do well to see how he handles a full-time gig.

When he doesn't have to worry about being shipped down to Columbus every few games, I predict he'll be a much better player.

I mean, when he didn't have the minor league burden on his shoulders (in September, after the rosters expanded) he ended up hitting .327 and definitely played a role in the Yankees march to another AL East title.

Posted

He hit .327 in a little over 50 ABs. That is way too small a sample to be an indicator of future performance. For example, how many players are hitting over .400 by April 20th (starters will usually have 50 or more ABs by this date) each year? I'd say the average is about 3 players per league, but nobody has done it for a season in about 60 years.

I'm not trying to knock Bubba, but his September proves nothing at this point.

Good point about Crosby and being sent down and everything. That will not be the case next year as he is, I believe, out of options, meaning that if we want to send him down we have to get him through waivers and he would have to approve being sent down (if he cleared, which I doubt he would).

I think a worst case scenario that really wouldnt be that bad would be to sign Preston Wilson to a 1-2 year deal just to keep the spot warm for Melky or Kevin Thompson.

I did not realize he was his personal catcher in Arizona. I thought last year was his first in Arizona. My mistake. I just wish we could have gotten someone more versatile like Lo Duca (plays 1B and corner outfield) or Hammock (plays 3B and Corner Outfield). But Stinett works.

Yeah Stinett works in a jam...I had the displeasure of watching him here, and hes awful. He was a weakness in the Diamondbacks offense and is not a very good catcher. OVERRATED by the AZ media, but thats a daily thing for the AZ media.

I'd glad the Yanks got him and not the Red Sox.

ESPN Radio just reported the Yankees are looking at trading Sean Henn and another youngster to Florida for Juan Pierre.

why florida would want sean henn is beyond me

No! Juan Pierre.:thumbdown

Looks like George might be tiring of whatever Cash is doing...

that trades a joke. sean henn will be no better than a 4th starter and proctor is a 28 year old relief pitching prospect. Pierre is 27 and is one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball and is a very good defensive CF. He also avgerages 52 SB a year

Sean Henn is a good pitcher throughout his minor league career. He has the potential to be a very good pitcher throughout his Major League career. You cant base his entire career on 2 starts (1 relief appearance), its not fair. Most every pitcher struggles in his first few career starts.

Like AlexanderTheGreat said, this is a no brainer to me. Although I am opposed to trading away prospects, Pierre is a guy that would fit perfectly here for a few years until Melky is ready. He is a top leadoff, top base stealer, great speed, very good defender. Works for me. Now as we all know he had a terrible season last year (despite something like 57 SB's) and getting him would be taking a risk, but I feel it is worth it. Go for it!

Also, this would get brownie-points with Steinbrenner, remember how much he wanted Peirre, especially after the 2004 World Series. He even signed Kenny Lofton to be his version of Juan Pierre (that one didnt quite work out).

Yea, I agree, Henn should be good, but this is a no brianer

Pierre averages 200Hits, 30+ XBase hits, 50RBIs, 50SBs and a .305 average

And if hes....getting better by year, he could be a great addition

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rick White says he is close to signing with either the Yankees or the Red Sox.

Personally, I think this is a load of s***, he claims to be close to signing with two teams. And the two teams happen to be the top 2 teams in the league. I think he is just saying that to drive up the other bidders' bids. But if it is in fact true, I do not like it. We dont need another righty. I will admit, that I like him, but just for the fact that he wears numbers like 88 and 00. The only way I would be ok with this is if it was a Minor League deal with a ST invite. Other than that I dont want this guy.

I'm going to be a bit upset if we still have Womack after these upcoming meetings; him staying here hurts us and him.

I'm sure Cash can get something from someone for him.

I dont see how having him hurts us, as he is a versatile player being able to play the Outfield and the Middle Infield, and not to mention he is percentage wise the top base stealer in baseball throughout his career (among active players). I think he is our Dave Roberts, just a little better.

But it is unlikely he will be back as he is really our top Major League trading chip.

Yanks signed OFer Chris Prieto. Chris had been with the Angels organization. He made his MLB debut last uear at 32 and spent most of the year in AAA Salt Lake. I know a guy who played for Salt Lake last year so i'll ask him about Chris.

Still nothing of any significance

Theres a rumor going around that Pavano (once again) isnt happy and that the Yankees are close to moving him for Reed and Putz from Seattle. If the Yankees are going to trade Pavano they need to do it now so they can still get in on Washburn and Millwood. I would do it then sign Washburn. If your not happy with us then get the f*** out. I think its that simple.

Cairo is back and the yanks are close to aquiring Jason micheals.

Cairo? Miggy is the Man!!!!!!!!!

I dont want Michaels or Reed because both could potentially get in Melky's way. I say just go and get Ledee from the Dodgers and let him and Crosby platoon.

I think we should keep Pavano. But if we do trade him I dont think we can go out and get another starter, we already have a million pitchers.

What would the Yankees do with Cairo?

He would be our utility guy. I like this because of her versatility, he can play the indifield, including 1B, and the OF!! If we do in fact get MIggy, I like this deal a lot.

I heard the Yankees are looking into acquiring Julian Tavarez.

Has anyone heard of that too? Addition of him would surely help solidify their bullpen

yea. I wouldnt mind having him, though I dont think he's as good as eevryone thinks. And plus the numbers just dont allow for it.

Johnson

Mussina

Wang

Chacon

Pavano

Wright

Sturtze

Proctor

Farnsworth

Myers

Rivera

Thats 11 right there and JOe like to carry 11. He had 12 last year and it killed the bench depth. If we do in fact move Sturtze for MIchaels then maybe we coulda dd him or Dotel.
