Ramirez wants to change Sox

BOSTON -- If seeing high-priced Manny Ramirez in a White Sox uniform next season sounds far-fetched, consider that the Boston Red Sox outfielder has said he would like it to happen.

According to a source, Ramirez told multiple White Sox players earlier this season that he wanted to play on the South Side and suit up for manager Ozzie Guillen.

Seeing the White Sox jump out to a 2-0 lead over the Red Sox in the American League Division Series this week might have inspired Ramirez into action to make a White Sox deal a reality. A report Thursday said Ramirez had fired his agent and is seeking a replacement, possibly with the intent of having his new representation work a trade out of Boston.

Landing the volatile outfielder seems unlikely, though, and not only because of his price tag. Ramirez is due to make $57 million over the next three seasons and has $20 million team options for 2009 and 2010.

Earlier this season, after Ramirez told Sports Illustrated that he preferred a trade from the Red Sox, members of White Sox management said Ramirez's baggage was capable of damaging team chemistry. Ramirez is the kind of high-profile, large-ego player whom general manager Ken Williams avoided when putting together this season's roster.

One definite snag in Ramirez's plans to change his Sox is that a report on FoxSports.com said he might be seeking Scott Boras as his new agent. This past offseason, the Sox eliminated Boras clients from their list of potential free-agent pitching acquisitions. The only Sox player currently represented by Boras is Joe Crede.

A Chicago source picking up on this before a Boston source? This always makes me a little suspicious. Manny may be changing to Boras anyway and Chicago said they don't want any Boras guys.

Manny's like a kid with ADD. Every time he sees another team it seems like he wants to play for them.

I think Manny does have ADD, but that's a good point it does seem like that. When the Yanks beat us he wanted to join the Yanks now he wants to be a White Sock.

I was reading a bunch of rumors and ideas from sports writers that the Red Sox should trade Manny for Gary Sheffield straight up. Who are these guys that write such lame crap. I could seriously list about 100 reasons why that trade wouldn't happen and will never happen. I wouldn't be suprised if the Yanks and Sox never speak to each other or consider a deal with each other as long as baseball exists. DUMB! Then again I did read the article so I guess they did there job.....damn.

Guys, Manny wants to go to the Expo's, he loves the city of Montreal, and canadian people in general, theres a few snags but nothing they can't get passed. I believe Manny will be traded to Montreal and will be the Montreal left fielder, and only professional baseball player next year. I don't know what we can get in return, maybe a mountee and a canoe? I think this deal gets done.

Latest team to possibly be interested in Manny is the LA Angels. Now thats a team loaded with options. They have prospects, players, and pitching I would be interested in.

yeah don't they have that shortstop prospect that hit 43 homers or something? maybe we could get vlad out of that trade and some quality pitching(lackey, escobar, donelly)

Oh yeah, I'm sure the Angels would trade Vladimir Guerrero AND some of the top prospects in baseball for a guy who hits slightly better than vlad, annoys the media and clubhouse and plays horrible defense.

I don't want manny going to Anaheim. If he goes anywhere it better be the NL, where he won't come back to stop the sox from going to the playoffs.

i'm just naming a few guys we could get...and check out vlad, the guy can hit;http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5737/career

and its not like we haven't had guys that annoyed the media and clubhouse(manny), personally i don't want to trade him, but if worst comes to worst its kinda what we have to do and not what we want to do

Vlad is nice but howd he do in the series against the White Sox? He was about as much of a factor as a paper bag. Ill take Manny, hes more clutch, and I am bias but SO WHAT? He should not be traded. PERIOD.

If the Sox were to trade Manny to the Angels...get young guys like Kotchman, Ervin Santana, Brandon Wood.....maybe you could sneak Scott Shields out of there but I doubt it. I would love to have Kotchman be at 1B...the only thing is you can forget the Sox replacing Manny's bat with anything close...the best hitter on the market is Konerko and if we got Kotchman well....

I think I would still keep Manny though. Sox should focus more on replacing Damon rather than Manny. I would love to see Torri Hunter in CF at Fenway

Living in Minnesota and going to Twins games, I can tell you the stuff Hunter can do in the outfield is un-real sometimes. He's simply amazing, but most Twins fans will tell ya his bat is nothing to write home about. I've also heard rumors of the Yankees being interested in him, we'll see how it all works out.

Agreed, double time. Manny's my favorite.;)

I agree. When I think of Torri Hunter I think of one step up from Mike Cameron. Both good in the outfield but pretty average hitters. What you can call them really is just great athletes. Thats what help them make it in baseball. Some players are great athletes then there are guys like David Ortiz who is a tank that can crush a baseball. The Red Sox don't have a lot of "athletes" and if they wanted to add one...place him in CF. We hit the ball so well I would risk sacrificing some of that to add defense and speed on our team.

....they do say if you want to build a great defensive team it needs to be the guys up the middle....CF, SS, 2B. I know I know I know...Edgar Renteria had a ton of errors...chances are he comes back and does better next season when he is healthy...add Torri Hunter and have any of the following Cora, Graff, or Pedroia and you have one hell of a defense up the middle.

if we make any trade this off-season i think it should be with the diamondbacks to get chad tracey(promising young 1b/3b/OF) and maybe try to get jose varelde(great bullpen guy)...this would assure us of a great young 1b and another solid bullpen arm...i don't think we need to go after torri hunter or trade manny...the only guy we need to sign is; well no one really

Who would we give up to get those two? That would NOT be an easy trade to do. BOTH are very highly touted here in Arizona, the Diamondbacks front office and management absolutely loves them. I wouldn't mind seeing them come to Boston but we would have to give them some special talent in return.

Jimmycarter, I'm aware of the fact that Vlad can hit. I know he can hit so much that I think he's a better all around player than Manny is. He hits at a comparable level (except he's never managed to get the RBI totals manny has), plays a pretty good right (with a cannon for an arm) and can run decently.

What we have to do is SETTLE the manny thing. If we don't figure it out one way or another then its going to be year after year of this mid-season drama. This "I don't like living in Boston" silliness that comes up every July. It gets really old and seems to start other players griping as well.

I love manny. He's like a well paying job. It takes a lot of work and dedication but when all is said and done you say "I'm glad I have it [him]". We can't replace him no matter what we do. So we either have to earn his assurances that he will just agree that he's a Red Sox with David Ortiz for the next few years or we have to move him. If we move him we could put together a team based on chemistry--that's something I think Theo is pretty good at doing. If we keep him then we put together a team based on power and scoring lots of runs. In either case his contract largely dictates the type of team the sox will be. I really don't think Theo would have signed Manny to begin with so he can certainly live without him and still field, in his mind at least, a very competative team.
