no, this isn't meant to be a troll thread or anything. I just think that from looking at the numbers alone, Manny has had a comparable year to Ortiz. Look at their stats

Manny - .292 45 144 112 .982 (OPS)

Ortiz - .300 47 148 119 1.001(OPS)

Now you factor in the fact that Ortiz has Manny's numbers protecting him in the lineup and Manny has absolutely no protection at all, yet he had 144 RBIs! I know Ortiz is much loved, but I dont hear enough about the credit that absolutely Manny deserves. My opinion is Manny was even more important to the Sox lineup than Ortiz, obviously I didnt watch the team the hwole year, so Red Sox fans are invited to prove me wrong.

I'm pretty sure manny started the season in the 3rd spot. Also he is not the one who has carried us, it's been Ortiz. Back when Vlad and Manny were in the MVP race, they both kinda went on power cold streaks, i remember Manny was stuck at 30-39 HRs for a while. Then Ortiz started hittin 7th inning and on HRs and really showed his clutch hitting, hence getting him more votes then Manny.

How did Ortiz perform when he was batting behind Manny?

MAnny doesn't have the kind of walk offs and game tying hits that Ortiz has, and I don't think manny was ever in any MVP discussions until about the last day of the season. It's always been Ortiz, Manny struggled to much early but had a great second half.

Ortiz has always carried the team on his back this season. Manny's struggle through his first couple of months, entering June Manny was batting just .249 with Papi at like .315. Then from Mid-August up until the last week of September Manny was agains struggling at the plate while Papi notched a franhise record with 11 HRs and 30 RBIs in September

Manny isn't as clutch as Ortiz, Ortiz has jsut as many HR's more RBI (yesI'm aware that Papi is in the 3 and Manny is in the 4 but Ortiz doesn't hit a bases clearing hit EVERY time) and a higher batting average. Without a doubt it's David Ortiz.

If Manny batted 3rd and Ortiz batted 4th for an entire season, wouold Ortiz still put up those kind of numbers? The Fox crew alluded to it that ortiz struggled in the 4 spot because he was trying too hard. Any truth to that?

I'm not sayin that manny isn't great, that he isn't one of the if not the best RH hitter in baseball but for this specific season Ortiz has to get the props. he's faced great relievers like B.J. Ryan an dothers and has punished their great pitches for HRs.

You're abolutely correct abot the "protection issue" but Ortiz had more clutch hits, if there is such a thing!
