AFter being the world champs, we should have at least won our division . all agree.

It appears to me that our rookie manager needed to pull Mr Walkefield in the first inning and used every last one of our pitchers to get the job done. and used everyone on the bench. We need to get rid of a few people who have not lived up to the pay that they are receiving. Mueller, Millar, Mr Varitex and so one. I have been a die hard fan for 56 years and danced on my mothers grave when they won. I have cried , laughed and yelled. They should have not blown a 4 game lead.

Don't be so rude to a true fan of 56 years...it's Tito's fault and his alone ...all they had to do was win two more games than they did...had he played Olerud more often instead of putting him in in the eigth inning a million times we'd be the champs today.

 

Plain and simple...didn't need pedro or smedro...the talent was there .....just not utilized the way it should have been!

No I don't agree. What the Sox did last year was great, but it has absolutely no relevence to this year.You have to earn titles, nobody hands them to you. This is a different team facing different competition. The Yankees won the Eastern Division, nobody gave it to them. If you've been a fan for 56 years, either your are a poor excuse for a fan and/ or your have a serious memory problem. Leads get blown in baseball ( for a number of reasons ) does 1978 ring a bell.

 

Wakefield, often has a bad inning, but quite often will settle down. Bsides, the Sox needed Wak to burn some innings.

 

As for at least two of your cited examples of under performers : Mueller and Varitek ( not Varitex ) you're dead wrong on both. Mueller has played at a gold glove level defensively, he's hitting close to 300 after a slow start ( due to knee surgery ), hits in the clutch, and he's relatively cheap. Varitek is simply one of , if not the best, catchers in the game.

I'll agree that Francona needs to keep starting pitchers on a shorter leash, but he's had that problem since the beginning of time, and the Sox win more than they lose in spite of him.

 

But this 'disgrace' business is silly. Me thinks that Miller Time probably starts before noon for folks on that kind of attitude trip.

exactly the Angels, who Yankees face Tuesday, have been a thorn for the yankees holding a 6-4 record against them in 2005. Sox with wild card win would face the white sox on tuesday, red sox hold a 4-3 series win in 2005, and have knocked around their top pitchers Buehrle and Garland.

The Sox have a 6 game lead in the loss column over, say, Houston, and are only competing for a wild card because the West winner doesn't have to. There are 26 teams with worse records than the Sox. How can you call them a disgrace? The season isnt over and they are still in contention. It's been a tough year for the Yankees and Red Sox because the division got better. NEVER say those guys didnt play their hearts out. They did. Winning last year has nothing to do with this year. You Boston fans have to learn what that means. It isnt easy to repeat. It's not something you should take for granted. Every winning season has it's own life. And fans need to respect what it takes to win. If you dont, you just are not much of a fan.

considering how garbage the pitching staff was this year, be pretty damn glad that we're still in a pretty good position to make the playoffs. Think about it, no starting pitcher had an ERA under 4.00. Schilling never fully came back to become the ace he's been the entire career. Foulke did absolutely nothing all year. The bullpen was at the bottom of the majors in ERA all year and we STILL finished with at least 94 wins

 

overall, I'm pretty damn proud of what this team did in 2005 regardless of whether we make the playoffs or not.

I'll admit that I was a little upset that it had to end the way it did with the 5 game lead we had, but hey s*** happens. Honestly, it made for good baseball. It was intense nail biting action. We got our spot in the Play-offs and now we have to make good of it. Let's go for another World Series run!

I wasn't angry, but I was disappointed. We limped into the play-offs and the yankees sprinted! I think we all feel a little let down with what took place at the end of the regular season, but we are all happy to be in the play-offs.

 

The orginal poster said they should of at least won the division being World Champs. Well if this is true don't you think they should have won it last year in order to win the World Series? Well we all know they didn't win the division last year, but won what was really important. The mo-fo WORLD SERIES. Who'd to say they won't do it again.
