The following post has nothing to do with last night's game, or how ineffective David Wells was.

What exactly is Dave Wallace's role during a game (or any pitching coach for that matter)? Is it to make sure that the pitcher and catcher are in synch? Is the pitching coach responsible for who is warming up? For who replaces a pitcher at a given point during a game? How much does Terry Francona consult with Dave Wallace?

Does Terry Francona delegate well? Too little? Too much? I know I may sound naive, but the way that the Red Sox have been handling pitchers sometimes seems curious. But, of course, we don't know all the 'inside' stuff that may be going on.

Its starting to make me sick how ineffective our pitching has been down the stretch run. It starts with the pitchers because clearly they aren't going to toughen up and throw down a fight. If things don't go well they appear to let it get to them and throw a stinker. So I would imagine its Dave Wallace's job to get these guys in the right frame of mind.

Terry is an awful manager. He uses guys at the wrong time. Starting pitching, though, is obviously not his fault.

Maybe in the last few weeks his decisons havent been great, but last year everyone thought he was a genious the way he used the pen in the playoffs, so i dont think Terry is a terrbile Manager, HE WON US A WORLD SERIES, name me a manager that can say that

He's all right as a manager. The team itself is incredibly talented hence the reason for the World Series win.

But he's being an exceptionally bad manager as of late.

Honestly, Tito only keeps everyone happy, whether it be spoiling Manny or pointing out good things in bad losses. I haven't seen him do one smart thing since he's been here, where everyone would agree thats a smart move no one else would have thought of. He only won last year because we had tremendous talent., we had the greatest 1-2 punch ever in Pedro and Schilling and had Manny and Oritz hittin the cover off the ball. Then again, I'm not sure what the manager's job is really besides what I see during games, such as replacing pitchers or pinch-hitting. Its pretty obvious though for him what to do: Put in Myers against lefties, Bradford righties, Timlin and Foulke in tough spots and others in mop up games. From seeing that I'd consider him very text-book and audible.
