New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Boston Red Sox designated-hitter David Ortiz have been named co-winners of Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the week ending September 18th. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Ortiz batted .385 (10-26) while leading the league with five home runs and a 1.000 slugging percentage in seven games last week. On Monday, Ortiz delivered his eighth multi-homer game of the season, including an 11th inning drive that proved to be the game-winner in the 6-5 Red Sox win over the Blue Jays. The two-time A.L. All-Star set a career-high on Wednesday with his 42nd home run, snapping a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning against the Blue Jays. The blast marked his fourth home run in three games. Last year's A.L.C.S. M.V.P. currently ranks first in RBI with 132, second in home runs with 43, and third in runs scored with 109.
