As we all know, roger and his mom were extremely close. The reason Roger has said he plans to retire every year (and obviously chooses not to) is so that his mom would be able to see him get inducted into the Hall of Fame. Well now it seems that that is no longer possible. It will be very interesting to see what he does, possibly extending his career as long as he can go, and not only that but how he pitches tonight and how stable his emotions will be.

RIP Bess and good luck Rog'

Sorry about Bess, but your logic sucks. The longer he keeps playing the longer it's going to take to get into to the Hall of Fame.

Yes, but he is saying that he wanted his mom to see him inducted, thats why he pondered retierment, but now that she [sadly] passed away, she cannot see him inducted, so he can extend the length of his career for as long as he feels nessisary becuase she passed away.

Personally I'm picking Carpenter to win the NL Cy Young, but I think Clemens already won one for his mother. And if he sucks for the rest of the season (sucks being an ERA a smidge over two-something?), it wouldn't because the death of his mother.

Oh s***. I think clemens will have a horrible rest of the season.
Yeah jsut liek Bret Favre did after hid dad died and jdut liek the panthers did when two of thier most important players were diagnosed with cancer.

No Kidding!! Because his mother died it is no longer possible for her to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame, so now it is possible that he extends his career because now there is no rush on being inducted.

Exactly, SFoC, this is what I was trying to say.

ok, but I really don't beleive much of what Roger says. When he was in Boston he stated he'd probably sign with a teanm close to home... he went to the Blue Jays, then when he was with the Jays same line ... he went to NY. Then I'm retiring..... nope I'll pitch .. but no road games.... then I'm retired again..... nope I'll come back for what $ 17 + Million. Roger is in this game for Roger and Roger only.

I think you misunderstood the point that RedRuffing and I were trying to make.

Also I think that statement about him being in the game for himself is a pretty bold thing to say. He went to the Blue Jays because he liked the deal, he got traded to the Yankees because he didnt like it in Toronto. He went to the Astros because his best friend went there and because his family approved of it (the whole reason he retired was for his families sake).
