AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 lol that D-Rays defense stinks. Gonzalez was horrible at 3rd the last time we faced him and Green stinks at 2nd.
Optimist Verified Member Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 3 Ks through 2 for the Big Unit
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 RJ strikes out Gonzalez on a 95 MPH fastball to end the inning. 2-0 Yankees going to the bottom of the 2nd.
Optimist Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 A Rod, when the count is 3 - 0...you have the green light to swing; just wanted to remind you. :dunno:
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 WOW where was that pitch. It was right down the middle.
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 RJ gets out of a little trouble.
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Ump robs Ruben of a hit 2 outs in the 3rd.
Optimist Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 The umpire decided to award the D Rays shortstop for the effort...
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 3-2 now....Jim Kaat made an accurate observation. It looked like RJ all of a sudden stopped throwing his fastball. He ended up speeding up their bats by only throwing sliders and splitters.
Optimist Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Looks like A Rod might be wearing a golden sombrero by the end of the night...
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 A-Rod's not picking up the ball at all from Fossum.
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 RJ needs to knock down one of these D-Ray hitters. They dig a nice big hole and take these huge HR swings. A classic example is with 0-2 Gomes hits a liner back up the middle on a high fastball. Big K 1 out and 2 on.
yankeessuck013 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 wtf was balco doing there, horrible baserunning. lugo could of had a cup of coffee while waiting for him.
ORS Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 You won't back Gomes off. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. Actually, most of the D-Ray team does.
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Does anyone remember Major League when Willie Mays Hayes tried to steal 2nd and he was out by a mile and he didnt even make it to the bag? Well we just saw that in the Yankee game as Jason Giambi tried to extend a single into a double. Yes Jason Giambi.
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 You won't back Gomes off. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. Actually, most of the D-Ray team does. Of course you wont back Gomes off the plate with that big elbow pad that he has. Anyone could have a chip on there shoulder when they hit with that. RJ should pull a Clemens and hit him on that pad all night (Just in case you dont know....Roger hit Barry Bonds twice on the elbow pad when Bonds came to Yankee Stadium in 02)
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 The Yankees are running the bases like little leaguers.
ORS Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Good for Roger, why don't you bake him some cupcakes. Gomes has some fire. Pad or no pad, he's not the type of guy to stop digging in.
Optimist Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Has Jorge Posada become the team's base running coach? Teams that give away outs like that usually don't end up victorious... <_>
AlexanderTheGreat13 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Good for Roger, why don't you bake him some cupcakes. Gomes has some fire. Pad or no pad, he's not the type of guy to stop digging in. Give me a recipe and I will. Fact of the matter is Gomes is among the league leaders in HBP's. Why? because hes not afraid to get hit. Why? because chances are he wont get hurt. Why? Because he has the huge elbow pad on. You throw one up and in and no matter who you are you will get a wake up call and you will not be hanging over the plate. Frank Robinson is the only player i've ever heard of to get knocked down and dig an even bigger hole and hes not Frank.

ORS Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Thank you Mr. "I explain way too f***ing much". I'm aware of the benefit of the pad. He's going to be wearing it and that won't change. So if you can't scare him, as you say, what is the benefit of throwing at him? Free baserunners for the Rays? I never said he'd dig in more, just that you wouldn't back him up.

Frank Robinson is the only player i've ever heard of to get knocked down and dig an even bigger hole and hes not Frank. That is so untrue it isn't funny. I've seen several players that hug the plate (Ortiz, Everett, Sheff) get brushed, get pissed, hold their ground, and drill the next ball into the seats. The only person I've seen it have a noticeable effect on in recent memory was Matsui after game 3/4(?) in last year's ALCS.

I never said he'd dig in more, just that you wouldn't back him up. Who said you HAVE TO hit him. Throw one near the ear hole and hes not leaning out over the plate. As far as I'm concered if you have an elbow pad on you then the chip on your shoulder gets much larger. All I'm saying is take a page out of the Pedro Martinez textbook.

EDIT: Game 4 btw
Optimist Verified Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Tom Gordon needs a new nickname, I'm thinking the "Anti - W." It's an almost certainty that if he goes out there with the tying run anywhere near home, the starter is not going to be getting a W.
ORS Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I'm talking about legends and Gomes isnt even on there level anyway. You don't have to be a legend to have that attitude. Its a state of mind and isn't a function of ability. I've watched a lot of D-Ray games this year and Gomes is a tough nut.

I admire his courage though, he came back from a heart problem and look where he is now.
