September 3 Yankees vs Athletics

Quite frankly, Al Leiter sucks.

 

He can only get hitters out who get themselves out. For example, Oakland is a very patient team and they lit him up. KC is a very aggressive team and they were shut down.

 

He faces a real MLB lineup in the playoffs, and I don't trust him.

 

Let Johnson, Chacon, Small, Wright and Wang be our 5 down the stretch if Mussina can't come back.

I like that, who do you pick as the playoff 4, I go Johnson, Chacon, Small, and Wang (assuming that he is in the form he was in earlier in the season, i'd rather have Wright provide a power arm in the pen, but If Wang doesnt pitch to the level he did earlier, then I throw Wang in the Pen)

Watch out for Small, he's been nothing but clutch this year. He's quickly become one of my favorite players.

Why don't we just go ahead and change the General Baseball Talk page to, "Yankee talk". Do we need a thread for every game they have? Can we just post a thread after the games they lose to talk about the way they played and do nothing after the games they win?

If Mussina can come back, I would go with Johnson, Moose, and probably Wang and Wright. I know Small and Chacon would be very capable out of the bullpen and be able to eat up innings. I'm still undecided, because Chacon's last couple of starts looked a little shaky. If we get all the guys back and healthy that can be back, I go with Johnson, Mussina, Wang and Wright. If Wright or Wang is ineffective in a couple of starts before the playoffs start, I switch them for Small without a doubt.

 

If Mussina can not come back effective, I think I keep Small in the rotation. I go with Johnson, Wang, Wright and Small.

 

Although I do see where you are coming from with your rotation, and really would feel confident with all four of them starting I just don't think Wright will be able to provide much if anything out of the pen, and I think Chacon could be a huge help out there. And if Mussina does come back, I think they need to slide Small into the pen as well to eat up innings. Even though he can be better than Wright and possibly Wang, I think he's more versatile.

 

Somehow, I think that Sturtze will not recover, and Chacon will need to take his place in the bullpen. Just a gut feeling.

Matsui has done a very good job there

 

Actually, he's been in quite a slump since he started batting second.

 

Since August 24 (when he was moved into the two hole): 10 - 45 (.222)

Since August 29: 2 - 24 (.083)

September (granted, it's only 3 games): 1 - 11 (.091)

 

what are you talking about, who would you rather have in the 2 hole, Cano who swings at anything??

 

Bernie Williams or Matt Lawton should be in that spot.

Better hitters should get more at bats. Matsui has an .834 OPS, Robby Cano with a .713. We get Matsui more plate appearances, there are more chances to score.

But Matsui is a much better batter runners on, which isn't as likely in that spot. I'd give lawton a chance. Maybe he'd hit a little better.

um yea, if you wanna complain about the game threads, come to me. I have started each of those game threads for awhile now, and I like any other Sox fans like to keep tabs on whats going on. And I will continue to do them too...

We always make game threads at the yankee forum I post at, if the sox win, few people post in them. If they lose, a lot of people do.
