List all this player bashing just isn't right. I'm a big fan and yes some guys piss me off from time to time (Manny). Millar and Bellhorn did some great things last year. Granted they are not all-star players, but get real a baseball team can't have every player to the all-star game.

Bellhorn and Millar would be viewed as much better players on most other teams because they wouldn't have the comparision of Manny, Tek, Muellar, Nixon, Damon, ect. We have a huge amount of GREAT players on this team. I am a Kevin Millar fan and I love Bellhorn for what he did for us last year in the play-offs. Believe it or not Millar does a lot for this TEAM. More than most think. He is a leader no doubt!

I've said this before and I mean it. If Tom Brady was on the Browns he would not be viewed as a great QB. He's a great QB because he is on a great team and he helps to make it a great team. Management, Coaching, and most of all good players make a great team and many great players make an amazing team. The Pats have many great players and lots of good players making one of the most amazing teams every. The Red Sox have lots of good players and several great players. We are no doubt a great team. Our record doesn't show this because we are in a pretty damb good division and all teams get up and give us their best when we come to town.

Let's quit the bitchin and start Keeping the Faith, supporting, routing, and loving OUR Boston Red Sox! Ya get on a guy when he has a ruff night or makes a bone head play, but jesus I've seen more negative Kevin Millar posts this week and he's HOT. I mean why rip a guy apart when he is having a hot streak?

Curt Shilling right now sucks ass as a pitcher. I love him and always will because of what he did last year. Every one of those players from last year should be our hero's (even Nomar). They all made it possible for us to say...

The WORLD f***ING SERIES CHAMPS THE BOSTON RED SOX!

PS - Sorry for the rant!

OK I looked at Kevin's stats this year and he does suck this year, but I still love that guy! He will climb out of this slump just in time for the play-offs and you'll all be sorry!

I hope!

Hey man, I hope your right about Kevin breaking out of his slump for the playoffs, but he has NOT showed any signs this season that he will.

There's no need to bash Millar at all... The Red Sox have the best offense in all the major leagues, Millar is batting .272 with 7 HRs and 45 RBIs... on most teams those are decent stats... to prove my point, lets look at the stats for the starting 1st basemen on the teams that are in the playoff race in the AL...

Oakland: Scott Hatteberg: Avg: .271 HR: 6 RBI: 49

Yankees: Tino Martinez: Avg: .243 HR: 17 RBI: 48

Angels: Darin Erstad: Avg: .281 HR: 4 RBI: 54

Guardians: Ben Broussard: Avg: .258 HR: 14 RBI: 49

Twins: Justin Morneau: Avg: .239 HR: 18 RBI: 64

White Sox: Paul Konerko: Avg: .271 HR: 32 RBI: 82

So he's not quite as good as Konerko, who is the best hitter on the White Sox... and you could argue that any of those other guys might be better, but they aren't going to be significantly better... and no he doesn't have 15-20 HRs, but he's with them in RBIs, which anyone with much sense knows is more important than HRs by far and away...

So feel free to say you wish Millar was doing better, or wonder why he's not doing as well as last year, but seriously he doesn't suck... he's just not Manny or Ortiz...

I agree with Hyrax. What does that have to do with playing baseball do you need to be physically and emotionally attracted to a player first in order to like him? For instance Randy Johnson is an ******* and one ugly man that must mean he sucked his whole career, right?!

I believe he is a huge leader in the clubhouse. He gets between players and umps to protect them, he gets the team fired up, he's like the clubhouse bar tender, blow jobs, what ever it takes.

I personally like him because when a player does well in a particular year as in a world series year I dont' forget that and say "what have you've done for me lately" I say "he was good and theres a good chance he'll be good again, this is just a slump".

Sure sometimes he has diarrhea of the mouth, but at times don't we all.

I think what's incredibly frustrating for fans is how streaky Millar can be at the plate. Just go back at the game threads to see all his pop ups and double plays with runners in scoring position. Even Tito had him sit this year for Olerud. He ceratinly broke out of a summer-long slump last year to help the team. I don't know if changing hair color can make you hit better, but let's hope he 's on the same track.

There's a big difference between being fairweather and knowing when it's time to give up on a player. People bashing Rents after a bad first month were fair weather. People bashing Schilling his first time out of the pen, or during his first start is fair weather. But waiting for a player to come around for half a season then giving up on him is just common sense. Millar has had more than enough time to get out of this slump ... it's not gonna happen.

What does that have to do with how he plays baseball?

They have nothing to do with each other, but, wehn you have played quite possibly the worst season of your life, and you are like that, it just pisses me off. I wouldnt mind him as much if he was queit, like Bellhorn. But this guy dyes his f***ing hair and mustache blonde. What the hell is that? Why the hell doesnt he take that extra time to work on his swing, or take a few groundballs if he has been playing so bad.

Exactly, if you're Manny or Papi feel free to joke around and be as big an ass as you want, but if your KFK just shut up and suck. When you suck you don't go around telling people you're "the Tom Brady of baseball". You don't talk to the media when you suck. That's what is pissing most of us off. Kev is making a joke of the fact that he sucks, and it's not funny.

Yeah, the "Tom Brady of Baseball" analogy pissed me off the most. First off, Tom Brady would probably be better at baseball, and second of all, the comparison isnt even close. Brady is probably one of the best QBs in Pats history, but can you say Millar is the best 1B in the Red Sox history? How many championships has Kevin Millar won, let alone the Championship MVP award. I will always hate the guy, even if for some odd reason we resign him, and he hits for .300/30/100.

If that happens you won't have time to hate him because they sky will be falling, volcanos will be erupting, and pigs will be flying.

Dating back to Aug 20 vs Angels, Millar has had 8 hits in 25 at bats (basically .300 avg) with Double, 3 HRs, 4 RBIs, 8 Runs scored, 4 Walks, 5 Ks. Lets not forget how many times he has hit line drives to the outfield but being robbed by web gem diving or homerun stealing plays. If not for Joey Gathright making a great dive to rob millar of a double, he wouldve been 3 for 5

Millar is too slow

Millar has no Glove

Millar never gets clutch hits

Millar doesn't have near enough home runs

He sucks, he should have been traded after 2003 while his stock was still semi-high.

Lets put it this way Kevin Millar hit two home runs yesterday, yesterday was August 31st, when a guy who is supposed to hit home runs for the team, has two home runs on August 31st, and he has 7 home runs on the season, he needs to go.

He could heat it up in the playoffs, he has still hindered the teams chances all year and is still crap and should still be off the team.

Millar has one good game and some of you are acting like he should be in the hall of fame.

he hit 250+ in august with 3 homers and 7 rbi's..that sucks.

especially when you conisder that this includes last night's game.

sizzlin said it best, For now I'm happy that he finally helped us win a game, and it's about f***ing time, but it does nothing to change my opinion of the guy.

I still cant figure out why olerud isnt in there more often.

He can change his hair color all he wants, he cant change the fact that he is a slow, fat, useless excuse for a major leaguer..

Posted

it's not worth arguing, two things in my opinion ....one decent game -no great game, but that isnt enought to make up for the s***** games and horrible at bats we have seen all month and all year, but its a start, and the ultimate bottom line is we won and he helped, so we all should be happy whether we like the usless fat piece of s*** or not.

I apologize for the hall of fame exaggeration I used to comment on your post. no you didnt say that. my bad.

we all want to win, I know that much.

no question I agree with that..

it would help a lot to have him contributing especially in the sixth or fifth hole. and since tito is going to play him whether we agree or not-no question.

I hate his f***ing guts, but I certainly dont want him to do badly--I rather him get hot and be wrong then have him look like s*** and be right.

Jason Giambi had a bad August, and was at .250 with 6 homers and 18 RBIs. Millar's entire season has been terrible. I agree with people saying they can't stand his attitude, I think he's a real f***ing jackass (Tom Brady of baseball? Brady is going to go down right next to Joe Montana in the history books. Millar will be a footnote on the '04 Series highlights). However, if he's on your team you have to be pulling for him to come around.

Being the biggest Millar hater probably ever, I feel obligated to chime in.

Hating Millar does not make me a fairwhether fan. Expressing my opinion about what's best for the team doesn't make me a fairwhether fan, it makes me a RED SOX FAN.

Why I feel Kevin Millar shouldn't be playing every day:

1. He can't field.

2. He can't run.

3. He can't hit lefties.

4. He can't hit away from Fenway.

5. He can't hit with runners on base.

6. He can't hit in the playoffs

I have never questioned his leadership ability, because I've agreed that I have no idea what his impact is in the clubhouse. If Terry wants him as the 25th man, FINE. I'm OK with that... just don't put him in the lineup in the abovementioned situations, and for the love of god please never put him in the outfield.

Even in his BEST season, Kevin Millar was a below average first baseman offensively, and that was his career year. He's been declining ever since and in 2005 he's a sad excuse for a Major League Baseball player.

Saying that does not make me a fairwhether fan. It makes me an observant, analytical baseball fan.

I wasn't comparing Tom Brady's playing skills to Millar. I was comparing the value as a teammate. The Red Sox are a great team because of no one player, because of the collective team. When one player doesn't play well someone else is there to step up.

BTW - I'm a huge Brady fan, but plan and simple if he was drafted by the Browns he would not be who he is today. Brady is great because the team is great. Yes now he is a great QB and he will always go down as the best QB in Pats history, but it would not have happened without the great teammates he has on the field and in the locker room. I NEVER said "the Tom Brady of baseball". So f***-off! I have an idea lets bad mouth every player on the red sox even though we are just coming off the 1st World Series Championship in 86 years. Where is your graditude f*** face?

Posted
Oh ya before this thread was hijacked by Millar haters my hole point was that we (sox fans) give way too much s*** to our guys. We should support them and enjoy the fact that we are the defending World Series Champions. Have some graditude for those players. Instead we talk s*** about them like we could do better. Get real it's a hard game.

Millar never gets clutch hits

Id say last night's bomb to left field was clutch, besides that only several 1st baseman in the American League have over 10 homeruns

It's one f***ign home run. Not to mention wind was liek 20 MPH blowing out to left field. He doesn't get clutch hits .248 average with RISP.

He even said it was an wind ball on a short post-game interview. He didn't think he hit it with enough power to get out. That being said, I look at Millar's stats and then decide whether he sucks or not. Like elsrbueno said:
