Mark Bellhorn, one of the heroes of the Red Sox's 2004 postseason run, will join the rival Yankees once he clears waivers at 1 p.m. Tuesday, FOXSports.com has learned.

Bellhorn, a switch-hitter, will give the Yankees infield depth and a left-handed bat off the bench. The Yankees currently are without backup infielder Rey Sanchez, who has been on the disabled list since June 10 with a bulging disk in his neck, and designated hitter Ruben Sierra, who has been on the D.L. since July 20 with a hamstring injury.

Bellhorn, 31, batted only .216 with seven homers and 28 RBIs before the Red Sox released him on Saturday, striking out 109 times in 283 at-bats. He had a career year for the Sox last season, posting a .817 on-base/slugging percentage with 17 homers and 82 RBIs

No! No! No!

Cashman...why are you blowing all that goodwill you earned after the Chacon deal!?

Also, I'm hearing a lot of talk about Embree...

I'm starting to like the fact that we signed this guy. He had a few hiccups in his first couple appearances but has settled down. It's likely that the 5 run bottom of the 9th on Saturday would never have happened if Embree hadn't come in and kept the Royals where they were. Joe just needs to remember this guy is a lefty specialist, not an ordinary relief pitcher.

(Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a big fan of him when he first showed up. I was at his pinstripe debut and booed him as he took and left the mound.)

One person's trash is another person's treasure. Besides, the pinstripes have a way of changing players for the better :) (let the gagging begin...)

Just imagine the crap that sox fans would get from Yanks fans for being happy about signing players who weren't good enough to put on the pinstripes.

Ya Randy Johnson is wicked huge this year. I mean he might win the Cy Young award this year or NOT. The pin strips suck. Sorry normally I don't make anti-yanks remarks, but I coudn't resist.

gagging you will be doing plenty of that watching bellhorn play

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bellhorn in the lineup tomorrow. Joe and the other coaches probably want to see how he does...

Oh well, we can only hope it works out for us.

So you have full confidence in Alan Embree coming in a game (say in the next series) to face David Ortiz with runners on second and third, No outs and the Sox close to blowing it open? I know I wouldn't.

Talk about us being arrogant...Sheesh, they don't even have the lead and talk about us blowing it. :thumbdown

So Bellhorn's going to lead the charge into the playoffs for the Yanks, huh? So he was the missing piece?

I have to admit I didn't really like the embree signing. he was good at holdong down the Royals in that comeback game. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, there still the f***ing royals. I like the Bellhorn signing, he gives us depth and can hit for power. Yes he is a strikout guy, but if we can slide him into a position with protection he'll get fat pitches to hit. we'll see hopefully it will help us, I dunno.

...I wouldn't have faith in anyone if Big Papi was at the plate.

(From the MLB article)

"I'll do whatever they need me to do," Bellhorn said. "I can play a lot of positions, I can pinch-run, pinch-hit -- whatever they need from me.

Granted, we probably won't be using him as a pinch hitter....but it's nice to see him eager to come to New York. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the team reacts to this...

He better attempt to get along with everyone, I don't want a rotten egg on the bench down the stretch.

He was hardly another team's 'trash', but he seems to be the exception to the rule this year. Leiter was trash and he's turned in solid performances more often than not (6 innings, 2 hits the other day?), Chacon has been our best pitcher, a godsend along with Aaron Small. So far so good with Matt Lawton too.

Again, what is the harm? If Bellhorn sucks, he won't play. If he produces, he's an asset.

Proving again how ignorant Yankee fans are.

Alan Embree is NOT a lefty specialist. BAA against lefties in 2005: .310 Righties? .260.

what other positions???....he can run?

he can play all the infield and outfield positions. in case you weren't aware. not necessarily gold glove-like, but good enough to pitch in if need be.

needless to say i am not pleased with bellhorn.

my friend from ny said he heard bellhorn has said to ny media of how he has played every position on the field except for pitcher and catcher. "and is willing to do whatever he can for the Yankees". a little bit of revenge against the Sox maybe? considering he was about to sign on the dotted line with the A's until George called him up

I have no problem with Bellhorn going to the Yankees just makes their lineup weaker and add's a worse bat to the lineup.

I actually think it would make them better. Cano hits like .257 against lefties, Bellhorn can spot a start here and there with a LHP on the hill.
