One week after the Red Sox designated Mark Bellhorn for assignment, the second baseman declined the team's invitation to report to Triple-A Pawtucket, officially ending his tenure with the team. Bellhorn will clear release waivers on Tuesday and will then be free to sign with any Major League team.

After putting together a surprising 2004 season, which included some big hits in the playoffs, Bellhorn couldn't get going this season, then went on the disabled list with a left thumb injury on July 18.

"He meant a lot to us. He's one of the best teammates I've ever seen," said manager Terry Francona. "At some point, you have to make decisions on what's best for your ballclub."

Good riddance. I wont miss him or his strikeouts.

Hopefully, Francona and Millar are next.

i agree with ya on millar dude. but cmon stop the ranting on tito, he got the sox to sweep the angels, through the yanks playoffs takin last 4 games, sweeping the cards in 4 games. And through 2005 of injuries to Curt, Foulke, Wells out for a month, and the depleted bullpen has made though sketchy, right calls to keep the Sox in 1st. By the way, he is a big upgrade over the last Sox manager

Yeah you know we just won the WS, so lets start cleaning house. Yeah and I guess Bellhorn's HR in Game 6(I believe) had nothing to do with us winning the ALCS last year. I'm sure nothing he did helped. He may have sucked this year, but let's not act like this guy has sucked since the day he came to Boston.

Why the hell do you want to get rid of the coach that helped bring us a WS last year? I dont see any reason to get rid of Tito. What because he's made a few bad decisions this year? NEWSFLASH: EVERY MANAGER DOES.

YOU ARE A f***ING DOUCHE BAG FAIR WEATHER **********! DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT! SELL EVERYTHING YOU HAVE ASSOCIATE WITH THE RED SOX! AND GO CHEER FOR THE YANKEES YOU FAIR WEATHER DOUCHE BAG ... YOU'LL FIT RIGHT IN WITH THEM!

I apologize for that but these people are really starting to piss me off.

MC you're just wrong, and who the hell are you too judge other fans, just worry about yourself.

You can be a redsox without having blind faith, or agreeing withg everything.

Lighten up, son.

That's the fun of following team for some poeple. Personally, I like terry but I know he isnt the best, he is the among the lowest paid managers in the league--for a reason, even with last year. What pisses me off is sanctominous little pricks like you that think look down on anyone who questions anything. It sounds like Bush saying if you're against my issues like the war, you're not patriotic. Newsfalsh: You can love the sox without getting hard for curt schilling or Terry francona. And as aside as far as millar is concerned, I though he wasnt playing as much, suddenly he is starting all the the time, and man, he f***ing sucks.

it was only a matter of time that after seeing Millar have a good day with an actual homerun, Tito's loyalty would kick back in. Millar was the only player of the lineup to not contribute anything offensively going 0 for 4 with 2 Ks

It's mind boggling that they let this guy in the line-up...Olerud could hit better without a bat.

The fans (except MC becasue he is the only real redsox fan around) are booing the crap out of fat ass though, and he deverves every f***ing boo-if you ask me.

did anyone hear jerry and don laughing at the line that guy from sienfield said..."that his wife still has that new wife smell"...those guys could not stop laughing--it was hilarious.

on topic, I saw (unbelievably) that some teams are interested in bellhorn...amazing.

Personally, I'm starting to agree with the idea of getting rid of Francona. Brad Mills made a few good descisions last night that I don't tihnk Francona would have made.

He slammed joe because all joe does is show up when the Sox lose big and then criticizes everything that Tito does. He's negative, never positive. He only posts on this board when bad things happen. He's never here when Tito makes an incredibly smart move. He's never here when the Sox do WELL. He comes here only to trash talk Tito. That's it.

I'd like to thank Belhorn for the good memories and I wish him the best of luck. Aside from his poor season this year, it is hard to hate this guy and I'm glad he was part of our championship team.

I agree. even tho i wont miss the strike outs (or him just watching the ball sail over the plate) i always had a soft spot for bellhorn and he did do some good things for the sox.

It's about time they got rid of the guy. He was just taking up space on the roster. Kinda like Remlinger and Millar.

You never learn do you? Good luck to bellhorn.

Maybe he'll end up like jay payton. Not doing well for us then going to oakland and hitting very good.

First off, I'd like to join the group who thank Bellhorn for his contributions last year and wish him the best of luck except when/if he plays against us.

The Red Sox were retarded to let the Jay Payton senario get that bad. As it turned out, they desperately needed him and should have done what was necessary to keep him on the club.

Let's face facts: Jay Payton is a better player in EVERY FACET OF THE GAME than Kevin Millar, yet who was getting more playing time? The Red Sox could have done themselves a favor and DFA'd fatass a long time ago and freed up a spot for Jay, then picked up his option for next year and solved that problem.

On one hand I'm thrilled to see Gabe Kapler back, and that wouldn't have happened with Payton here, but there's no way Millar deserved to be here and playing more than Payton did. He contributed more in a reserve role for 3 months than Millar has as a starter for 5. NO BRAINER. No wonder the man got pissed off.

like was stated before, the case may be that he'll play well for them. also considering he plays well historically in yankee stadium.

and letting payton go? was just a dumb move. according to billy beane, aquiring payton is the smartest thing he has EVER done.

We lost Jay Payton but we got Chad Bradford who has done very well for us. It's not as if it was a total loss. Our offense has still been one of the best in the league not to mention we have other players who are capable on the bench (I'm not saying Kevin Millar).

As far as Bellhorn I'm happy he gets a shot somewhere but I don't understand why the Yanks would go for him. What happens when he goes 0-3 with 2Ks. The only thing worse than a struggling player in Boston is one in New York. As if his confidence wasn't at an all time low he needs to go to Yankee stadium where they are in a playoff race. I think that sucks I would have rather seen him go to the NL and join one of the teams in the NL East. But fine...facing Embree and Bellhorn are not among my top fears...especially when our team has been upgraded both places.

Posted

well, bellhorn a yankee and embree too. Who would have thought that those two putrid excuses for players would end up on a non-playoff team in hell..lol Now if we would just send fat ass f*** face douche bag ass licking scum bag millar adrift I can die a happy man.

But bellhorn didnt duisappoint in his first appearance as a spankmee..he went 0-4 playing 3rd base..lol.no strikeouts though...apparently, their scouts dont watch the redsox and must have missed mark's defense shortcomings.

Well, the bellhorn curse seems to be working becasue they got clobbered with him on the roster.

Now if we can only find a way to get millar over there. any thoughts on how to fool the yanks into into taking him.

So a nice start for Bellhorn. I had to watch the game and it was quite amusing. I actually feel for him though as opposed to Embree who I love seeing go in and get rocked. Bellhorn has simply lost it. My gutt feeling says the Yanks won't stick with him too long. He looks pretty silly with his clean shaved look....just not the same Bellhorn. His swing is still there though.

Now I'm gonna seem like a Yankees fan with this username... lol

Gonna miss him... so bad. I think that all the pressure he put on himself (and the fans who turned against him, which pressured him) made him slump.
