yeah the Angels fans chanted it too

....we've come a long way from being America's team back in the late 90's :/

we were america's team in 2001 but i don't necessarily think the red sox are americas team. i think the yanks could be considered it. you don't see B caps in other countries, whereas you do see interlocking NY caps all over the place.

Seriously though, I think they randomly pick a day to follow baseball, then they see whos won the most, then pick. A LOT of it is bandwagoning. IMO

oh definately. i think the yankees take the cake with that. winning one WS is one thing, but creating a dynasty that has won the division since 1997 and winning 4 WS in less than a decade is another.

not to mention all of the history.

they were without a doubt America's team in 2001, but I also consider them America's team in the late 90's because after we started winning the World Championships everyone jumped on the wagon, you started seeing people in Oklahoma, Kansas, California, Oregon, Missouir, Nevada, Utah, etc with Yankee hats and Yankee jerseys. At a lot of the road games since '96 you could be inclined to think that we were the home team with all the Yankee fans...not as much anymore though.

yeah without a doubt. i agree 100%

Manchester United plays a huge role in the Yankees getting exposure overseas. The clubs have a marketing deal, so they sell Yankee merchandise wherever United things are sold. Steinbrenner may be up there and insane, but he's still pretty clever.

but in other countries, that wouldn't be considered "america", would it?

Ya do know that Man U is roughly the equivalent of the Yankees in the Premier League? And now it's owned by a "Yankee".

I always felt the chant was tasteless to be honest. It was fun when it started like four years ago, but to hear Yankees suck while playing the Devil Rays in a Spring Training game irritates me. Who frigin cares what the Yankees do. If we win it doesn't matter. Who cares how much they are struggling. We are in first place, enjoy it. Im a diehard RedSox fan, but I have a respect for what the Yankees have accomplished. To be honest, I hate the Yankees like everyone else....but to say they suck......thats tasteless and unintelligent.

This shows the class the front office is trying to establish.

Agreed with SCM33 although it's more of a "Yankees suck at life" chant than saying they "actually suck." I dunno, I never really understood the point either. I guess you could say I'm MUCH more of a "Let's go Red Sox!" person than I am a "YANKEES SUCK!" person. I get behind my own team and motivate them more than worrying about a team that I couldn't care less about. It's much more effective rooting FOR your team than AGAINST another.

So happy to hear that. I understand it is a rivalry, and I hate the Red Sox with all my might whenever the Yanks are playin 'em, especially in the play-offs, but (and no offence of course) it does make RSN look silly chanting Yankees Suck when the Yanks aren't even in town.

I don't know if it makes us look silly. It all comes down to the fact that the Yankees dominated the Red Sox for nearly one-hundred years as far as success of the two franchises. And when your most hated rival does that to you over and over, it gets old and you start taking out your hate in chants or whatever else. I would definitely rather root for the Sox instead of root against New York anyday, but I definitely hate the Yankees with passion.

I don't really use it, i only say they suck when i want to really piss off bandwagon fans, but usually when i talk to real yankee fans i try to say they aren't as good as us now, or something similar.

I've always hated the "Yankees suck" crap. From the shirts to the chants, that stuff just has to go. It says a lot about the wearer/chanter, that their baseball obsession lies more at the feet of hating the Yankees than loving the Red Sox. When you're expending more energy, positive or negative (obviously negative in this case), on a team you alledgedly hate, you should really reassess your priorities. And this is from someone who, unequivocally, dislikes the Yankees.

well if the red sox do this then that means all of baseball has to do this, points to Yankee Stadium fans signs of "1918", chants of Red Sox Suck, Whos Your Daddy

That's not true at all. While I wouldn't mind if YS banned Red Sox Suck chants, that's like saying if one restaurant says that you can't wear jeans then all restaurants have to ban jeans. As much as the owner of the Sox would like to have a say as to what everyone else in baseball does, Fenway is a private establishment and the people who make rules for it don't have anything to do with the rest of baseball.

the whole thing is stupid--it is another example of political correctness way out of control..parents find this offensive?

christ, maybe if they spent more time with their kids they'd see that a lot more goes in a day than seeing the word suck on a T-shirt.

Besides the yankees do suck and that's an indisputible fact.

soon booing will be banned, and God forbid...the ******** chant at hockey games and football games when there is a bad call.

yankees suck...yankees suck..hmm, that feels right. As a matter of fact next time I go to Fenway I am going to wear my "Jeter Sucks A Rod" or Posada is a little bitch shirt.

Posted

I wonder if they will ban the "JETER DRINKS WINE COOLERS" t-shirts. Out of all the anti-Yankee t-shirts, that one is my favorite. Nothing against Jeter, but the slogan itself is so silly I have to laugh at it.

I myself don't really care about the ban because I'm too busy rooting for the Red Sox to worry about the Yankees when I'm at Fenway :D
