Q. You've said before that Boston has the best fans. Why?

A. Boston fans are faithful. They live for their team. That's the real fan -- the one that lives for its team, the one that feels the pain when their team loses and the joy when their team wins. And even when the season is lost, they're still fans. Here, it took them 86 years to win but they always kept on being fans. After the team won last year, they're more interested in the team and its players than ever.

so thats what he thinks of us, what does everyone think of him????? I for one am a big fan of his.

Q. You mentioned earlier that you were settling into the city and the team. What is your relationship with your teammates? Who do you get along with?

A. The only one that I don't get along with is David [Ortiz, who is within earshot, slams his locker, turns around, and they both laugh]. No, no, the truth is that we have a very good relationship. It's cool. There's a lot of trust and respect, which is essential. All the other guys on the team are incredible. They're great teammates. They're there when you're down and they celebrate when you're up.

thats a funny answer by rent, just shows how much he enjoys his team mates.

I was very excited to hear about him signing with the Red Sox cause I knew he would stabalize the position for several years, I was disappointed in his slow start but I always knew he would come around and he definitely has. Barring injury, he's only gonna get better in the next few years. Plus he just seems like an easy guy to get along with and a great professional

The thing that impresses me most about the guy is how he took Han-Ram under his wing in spring training. He also said that he would be willing to move to a different position when Hanley was ready. How many athletes in this day and age do that?

He is lucky. He played for the Cardinals which is a team with some of the greatest baseball fans and for the Red Sox, which have a huge following. It must suck playing for the Rockies or something.

Alex Rodriguez comes to mind.

Actually I was thinking the other way around Derek Jeter comes to mind. I don't give a s*** about his Gold Glove last year doesn't A-Rod have like 3?

If Derek was really the "captain" and the guy who would "do anytihng to better the team" he would be gracious and realize that there is someone coming in who has superior skills to you, you should step aside. The fact that Derek Jeter DIDN'T move is a testament to Edgar and how much he cares.

Also there is a HUGE difference in the situations. Alex Rodriguez switched to third because the Yankees already had a bona fide suprstar at short, Edgar said he is willing to move over for a prospect who hasn't proven anything at the major league level yet.

But you are right I do give A-Rod full credit for being a man and switching to third even though anyone with a baseball brain would know Jeter should have been the one to switch.

He sounds like a nice guy. :) They still love him in STL.

A-Rod comes off, really weirdly in interviews, I'd "laugh" if I wasn't so puzzled by some of the things he says...

Sizzlin: It's just a matter of "respect", so to speak, that Jeter didn't switch. Not that we'd ever know, but I can't imagine Jeter throwing a tantrum over it. Or I don't know, he seemed a bit miffed when Steinbrenner questioned his partying ways, until the commercial smoothed things over or whatever.

I think A-Rod is capable of playing 3rd, and Jeter really isn't. That's why the move made more sense. Alex hasn't made an error in 53 games (best among 3rd basemen this year) and had not only handled the position, but has begun to excel. I don't think Jeter could have done that, his abilites limit him from playing an effective third base.

How do you figure? An athlete is an athlete. Can he run? Jump? Catch? Throw? Derek Jeter for being one of the best SS in the league and an excellent athlete should be able to make the move just fine. Would there be speed bumps? Name one third basemen who hasn't made any errors. It happens to all of them and lets consider there are plenty of other third basemen that....really arent that good...im sure Derek could be up to the challenge....well he should have been at least. Not to mention I think the Yankee faithful would have been easier on Jeter if he made an error as opposed to E-Rod signs.

Just out of curiosity why wouldn't they make the switch of moving Jeter or A-Rod to 2B as opposed to 3B? They always say the positions in the middle determine a lot about the team defense (2B, SS, CF)

I don't think there's any question that the Yanks best SS is playing 3B right now, I just don't think it would be fair for Jeter to move. He has a longer tenure, not to mention he is the captain for crying out loud. Who would Arod have been to move someone like that on his first year coming in? He would have been an Ahole as you like to call him so it was good for the team that he moved to 3B, he realized that, and he did it.

Thats true I suppose. If A-Rod had taken over and moved Jeter over then he would have looked like more of a dick. Unless Jeter volunteered then it would be a little different. Who knows guess I dont really care to be honest haha. They can both play there positions

Who would he have been, ummmmm, I dunno maybe the best shortstop of our generation, and argueably the best ever if his career stays on pace.

Nice to see someone giving Arod his props.

we didnt have to get A-Rod, he wanted to come to a winner so that was the stipulation, we could have done fine with Soriano at short and Cairo/Wilson/Mike Lamb at 3rd....Jeter ios the man here, he shouldnt have to move for anyone

Well we all know A-Rod has great numbers and is an animal at the game, but we hate him anyway lol, mostly because of his character. Yeah he's with the Boys and Girls club and stuff, but he's still an *******. Pete Rose could donate money to a foundation, but I still think he would be an ******* with great career numbers.

I agree, I've always thought the whole situation worked the best way it could have. Jeter is a good SS, but as far as his peers go he has an average arm for his position, while ARod has a very strong arm. The decision was really a no brainer.

SITN's suggestion about playing Jeter at 2B has some merit, but then who plays 3rd?

from what ive seen, Jeter probably has the most accurate arm of any shortstop in the majors, definitely not strongest but most accurate
