It's very possible that Sunday's postponement against the White Sox will never be made up, unless it winds up being necessary to determine playoff seeding.

The teams have two common off-days (Aug. 22 and Sept. 5), neither of which is convenient. The Red Sox play in Anaheim on Aug. 21 and are spending Monday's off-day in Kansas City before opening a series there on Tuesday night. And Sept. 5 is scheduled to be Boston's first day off after 13 games. If the Red Sox played that day, it would mean they would play a stretch of 30 days in a row.

As per Players Association rules, Red Sox players would have to give the seal of approval to play on Sept. 5, something that seems highly unlikely.

"Competitively, I don't know if it makes sense for us to play it," said Francona. "If we got pushed to a situation later in the season where we had to play it, the White Sox wouldn't want to use a single player that's going to the playoffs."

The White Sox currently lead the AL Central by 12 1/2 games, so it's hard to imagine they would have any interest in playing a make-up game the day after the regular season ends.

so what happen if we are up .5 a game on the yankees, after that last game at fenway vs the yankees?

I think I'd s*** my pants.

In all seriousness though, that falls under the category of "unless it winds up being necessary to determine playoff seeding."

I think Tek should play Podsednik on MVP baseball over Xbox live to determine the winner.

haha I actually heard about either a football league or hockey league proposing to do that, and I mean like the NFL or the NHL, in the pre-season. I'll have to find the article...

Unless you guys are within a game of the first place Yankees at the end of the year, it will be a 161 game season. Do note that the Yankees will be in first place at the beginning of October.

Hey Mr. Confidence, where were you a few weeks ago?

i can only very much agree with that the yankee fans pretty much had vanished since end of July. now sox lose one game and making it sound like yankees have a 10 game lead. Everybody was expecting Sox to not extend winning streak, but hey Sox can always bounce back with their offense and yes even though Bronson had only lasted 6 innings and gave up 10 hits, it was his 2nd straight quality start giving up only 3 runs and walking no one.

I have to agree that the Yankee fans (with the exception of YankeeDoodle) dissapeared from this site when the Yankees were struggling (they always do).

That being said, he's right. The White Sox have no reason to play this game (barring a miracle crash on their part and comeback on the Twins/Guardians part), so the only way this game is played is if the outcome of that game will impact WHO makes the playoffs.

what makes you so sure?

lemme guess..."oh we're the yankees, everyone should bow to us, you are all inferior"

you've been in 1st place for 1 DAY this season!!!!!!

even that being said, the chisox wont be playing all there best players-no konerko, rowand, podsednik, dye, etc. Probably face a spot starter, so its almost automatic that we'd win this game with all their bench players and minor leaguers playing, right?

Seems like a perfect setup for Bucky Dent 2 to me. :o

Not only do these Yankee fans disapear when the team is doing bad, but as soon as we question them about it, they disapear again.

Why don't you guys/girls disapear for good.

Actually we have a game to make up too. We had a postponed game against the O's.

YANKEESRULE is back.... the Yankees must have won last night.

Hey, hope this isn't too off-topic, but what happens if the ASG is rained-out? Who gets HFA?

just give it to the American League they would have won the game anyways......hahaha

If the All Star Game 'counts' then it should have the best players on it, and shouldn't be selected by the fans. If it's an exhibition, let the fans pick.

It's a dumb idea.

It's not going to be a science, whoever picks it; it's still going to be a subjective thing. Players and managers do have a part.

Fans pay the ridiculous ticket prices; it's a nice gesture that they have a say.

I guess nobody wanted Jeter in it? Nobody? Aww.

I agree they should have a say, but it sure as hell should decide HFA. The team with the best record overall should have HFA.
