Torrential rain saved Boston's 13-game home winning streak Sunday and sent the Red Sox on the road for the season's longest trip with their six-game winning streak intact. The Red Sox open their three-city, 10-game tour on Monday in Detroit against the Tigers. The three-game series at Comerica Park will be followed by four games in Anaheim and three more in Kansas City before the Sox return to Fenway for a 13-game homestand on August 26.

Bronson Arroyo (10-7) takes the ball for Terry Francona's Red Sox against Detroit right-hander Sean Douglass (4-2), Bronson hoping to pitch well and achieve his career high 11th win of the season. This is Boston's second trip to the Motor City, having won the final three games of a four-game set May 2-5. The Tigers don't visit Boston until the beginning of the next homestand. The six-game overall winning streak is Boston's second longest this season.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Bronson Arroyo

• 10-7, 4.28 ERA in 2005

• 1-0, 1.13 ERA vs. DET in 2005

DET: RHP Sean Douglass

• 4-2, 4.08 ERA in 2005

• 0-0, 1.29 ERA vs. BOS in 2004

Quick hits

The Red Sox have 10 or more hits in each of their last seven games, matching their longest run of 2005 (June 19-26). They last posted more than seven straight games of double-digit hits during a nine-game run July 1-10, 2004. ... During their current stretch, Boston is batting a collective .354 (91-for-257) with 17 doubles, 10 homers, 65 runs scored while compiling a .537 slugging percentage. Boston has raised its team average to a Major League-leading .285 from .280 in those seven games. ... Boston is 9-2 in August. ... The Red Sox, at 30-29 away from Fenway, are among only four American League teams with winning road records, joining Chicago (38-19), Cleveland (36-25) and the Angels (33-25).

Are Cora's stats better than Tony G's against this pitcher ?

I was just thinking on my drive home that with Paplebon coming up for tomorrow's game to pitch for Miller, it would be a good time for Wells to take his suspension after his next start. Paplebon could pitch his game then be sent down and recalled after Sept 1.

Great. I have the FoxSport Detroit feed. Boo.
