If it gets rescheduled, I would expect to see a day game on Monday, September 5. Boston has the day off in between home series against Baltimore then Anaheim, and Chicago has the day off in between home series also. Chicago's day game on Sunday, September 4 makes it possible to travel that night, play Monday, travel Monday night, and make it back for the Tuesday night game.

hoping for a situation like that, hate to see yankees grab an extra game on us after a loss in 3 1/3 innings

I won't be a loss if they don't play any more. The rules say you need to finish 5 innings for an official game.

EDIT: Or 4.5 if the home team is winning.

Yes.

No. they wouldn't. They only do that in a "suspended" game (a called/suspended game due weather or darkness/ curfee after the official limit and tied). They will reschedule "as needed" meaning that if it has no affect on the standings it would not be replayed.

This game has to go 5 innings or 4 1/2 if we're ahead ( which we're not ) to become official. In that case the team ahead wins. If it doesn't meet this criteria, then it is no game ( meaning everything is wiped out ) and they state again at another date.

The races for home field advantage, division, and wild card are all too close for this game to be meaningless, so I'm envisioning it being replayed on Sept. 5 (unless they decide to wait until the end of the season). If the game is called, the make-up game is a BRAND NEW GAME starting in the first inning 0-0.

I said that. They will make every effort to make the game official ( pray for long, long, long, rain ). But its up to the Commish Office to decide whether to reschedule and when after the end of the season ( if the two teams can't work it out in the schedule ).

There is a good opportunity on 9/5. Both have the day off. Boston is between two home series. Chicago has a day game at home the day before. It's only about a 2.5 hour flight from Chicago to Boston. If they play a day game, Chicago is back home in the early evening to prepare for their next home series starting Tuesday night. I'm not saying it will happen. But that is the best possible time.

Not that the either Sox care, but think about the poor bastards that paid inflated prices from, eBay, Stub Hub, other ticket brokers, scalpers, etc, parking, soverigns, food, etc. If the game is not replayed, they're totally screwed ( in they bought their tickets from a season ticket holder that passed down the line to them ) because a refund will be applied against the season ticket holders account. If they bought them directly from the Red Sox, then they still out the gas, parking, food, time, etc. No to mention, it they, and their guests, can make the rescheduled game.

It's because its so damn annoying since the teams dont face each other again and they can only play tomorrow, throwing travel plans into chaos.

good sign this game was called. It didn't look good from the start and chances are both the Sox and Chicago won't have to replay it. Now it's on to the longest road trip of the season: 7-3 would be nice.

But with the way we've been playing at home, .500 would be acceptable.

Sure .500 would be acceptable, but 6 games between Detroit and KC, it's time to build on the lead. A split in Anaheim would be great.
