yesterday was the best day the Bruins organization has had since June 21, 1997.

Now time to sign some FA. They need a 1st line winger and a top offensive defenseman. Id make offers to Redden and Shanahan, as well as Barnaby to come in and give the team some spirit which they lacked all of last year.

Redden—7 Mil (34/5 years)

Shanahan—3 Mil (5.5/2 years)

Barnaby—1 Mil (1/1 year)

WOW, the Bruins make another good move. Mara will bring them an other offensive defenseman which this team needed last year. All Boynton did was get dumb penalties and contributed little to the offense.

i would not be at all surprised to see Murray dealt, and have a whole different team then we did in 04.

they also just resigned Mara to a 2 year deal. he was supposed to be a UFA after this season.

Well, it's a good deal for both teams really

It is. It gives PHX a tough, physical defenseman they need and Boston another offensive defenseman to run the PP along with B. Stuart.

The Bruins could be the Sabres of next season really with the young and talented team they have.

Glad Boynton "the Whiner" is gone though, after every game we beat you guys it always seemed like he was whining about diving and the refs.

i like the trade we need help in defence. although boynton was good but for one year. kind of like raycroft(i hope) i just hope raycroft won't be the modern day Babe. but it's not like we won with him.

I also like the trade as well. Bringing in an offensive defenseman will help this team. Boynton was a good defenseman but he always took stupid penalties at the wrong time and it cost the bruins time and time again.

Theres also a rumored Murray for Guerin trade potentially close to happening. I guess Dallas wants something else in return other than just Murray. Id probably take Murray over Guerin anyway, if im the Bruins.

Im hoping the B's can atleast by play-off contenders. They still need to make some more moves (please sign Chara) and they could contend.

Ya, up untill last year i like Boynton, but he pretty much sucked last year and all the whining was really anoying.

Looks like its down to Quinn, Lewis and an "unknown canidate" for the Bruins head coaching position. From what ive heard the unknown canidate is Craig Mactavish, whos option wasnt picked up by Edmonton.

I'm not so sure of all these 5/6 yr deals these players are getting, im not really in favor of it.

And 7.5 mil. a year to boot, damnnnnnn. It leaves them a whole lot less to spend on others.

That's not really much when you figure out much they are paying per foot....

The new NHL is a balancing act with salaries. Paying anyone 7.5 per is nuts unless they're up front...and even then it's a tough call.

Yeah, but not many players are under contract, and just hope that this isnt a Pre 2005- 2006 Rangers squad.

Bruins under contract:

Zdeno Chara $7.5 million

Glen Murray $4.15 million

Alexei Zhamnov $4.1 million

Paul Mara $3 million

Marco Sturm $2.4 million

Brad Stuart $2.15 million

P.J. Axelsson $1.85 million

Tim Thomas $1.2 million

Wayne Primeau $1.15 million

Hannu Toivonen $532,000

Hopefully, this is another squad that'll go 0-for against the Sabres ;)

Bruins signed former Flames forward Shean Donovan to a 2-year contract. He's a very good two way player and a PK specialist who will fit in perfectly on the 3rd line with Primeau and Axelsson.

Yup. I think that they'll have to trade Glen Murray in order to sign him though. Not that I'd have a problem with that.

The B's also need an enforcer to put on the fourth line (Georges Laraque?), something that they lacked last season (LaCouture was a punching bag). Chara can't be fighting all of the battles for the Bruins because they need him on the blue line, not in the penelty box.

As of now, the Bruins roster looks like this (assuming they re-sign their restricted FAs)...

LINE 1

LW - Marco Sturm

C - Patrice Bergeron

RW - Brad Boyes

LINE 2

LW - Phil Kessel

C - Marc Savard

RW - Glen Murray

LINE 3 (CHECKING LINE)

LW - P.J. Axelsson

C - Wayne Primeau

RW - Shean Donovan

LINE 4

LW - Petr Kalus (?)

C - Jan Statsny

RW - Martins Karsums (?)

DEFENSIVE PAIR 1

D - Zdeno Chara

D - Paul Mara

DEFENSIVE PAIR 2

D - Brad Stuart

D - David Tanabe

DEFENSIVE PAIR 3

D - Milan Jurcina

D - Mark Stuart/Andrew Alberts

GOALIES

Starter - Hannu Toivonen

Backup - Tim Thomas

I really like the way this team is shaping up on paper, especially on defense. I would like to see one more stay at home defenseman as the top 4 you listed are mainly offensive defensemen. I'd like to also see them sign one more top 6 forward so it gives them an opportunity to not rush Kessel's progression and give him time to develop.

Brendan Shanahan: Not Headed to Boston

Update: According to a 'knowledgeable source,' Shanahan will definitely not be signing with the Bruins, the Boston Herald reports.

Recommendation: St. Louis and Detroit are reportedly pursuing the rights to Shanahan.
