According to BDD (source: Tom Shaer of ESPN Radio Chicago), the Sox will acquire lefty Mike Remlinger from the Cubs and may also have signed righty Ricky Bottalico (source Dan Roche).

Anyone hear anything?

ESPN's reporting this is a done deal, and NESN has also reported the Bottalico signing (although I haven't seen that in print yet). Bottalico's supposed to be in a Pawtucket uniform today, and it remains to be seen what happens with Remlinger, but the details that ESPN is reporting seems to be pretty specific for just a rumor.

Hopefully this will be another mike myers deal. Are they going to play in the bigs after?

Red Sox acquire Remlinger

By Ian Browne / MLB.com

Mike Remlinger was 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in 35 games with the Cubs this season. The Red Sox got the second left-hander they've been looking for in the bullpen, acquiring veteran Mike Remlinger from the Cubs on Tuesday for Minor League right-hander Olivo Astacio. But Remlinger isn't what you'd call a lefty specialist. In fact, his track record proves that he is tougher on right-handed hitters. Thus far this season, Remlinger has held righties to a .210 average while lefties have hit him at a .326 clip. In 2004, Remlinger held righties to .191 average, compared to .303 against lefties.

By bringing Remlinger into the fold, the Sox have essentially replaced Alan Embree, the left-hander who was designated for assignment on July 20. Remlinger will team with Mike Myers as lefties in the Boston bullpen, complementing righties Mike Timlin, Chad Bradford, Manny Delcarmen and Curt Schilling. The fact that Remlinger isn't particularly effective against left-handed batters doesn't necessarily hurt the Red Sox. This is because Myers eats up lefties.

The Cubs had designated Remlinger for assignment on Aug. 5 after the 39-year-old went 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in 35 appearances. Remlinger was on the disabled list from May 21-June 5 with a non-displaced distal phalanx fracture in the fifth finger on his left hand. The Red Sox had hoped to add a lefty before the July 31 trade deadline -- the Twins' J.C. Romero was a name that came up frequently -- but were unsuccessful. But they were able to get Remlinger in a waiver transaction. The Red Sox also received cash considerations from the Cubs in the deal.

another roster move will make its way to the clubhouse, Remlinger will join the team for tonight's game. Im thinking probably Dekcarmen will be sent down to Triple A to work on his stuff

It should be Delcarmen or Gonzalez going down, preferably Delcarmen. Jeremi is perfect for the long relief/mopup type role.

Sox fans should riot if Youkilis gets sent back to Pawtucket to make room for Remlinger.
