Oh yeah, saw that article. First I thought he was referring to his man-crush, A-Rod, but then sounds like someone's mad didn't get an invite to the Pepsi batting practice. Said someone also says he doesn't think the Yankees are a "family organization" (mmmhmm...guess Steinbrenner doesn't fly wives all over the place) and he felt insulted by a contract Cashman brought to the table, and refuses to answer to anyone but Steinbrenner. Aww. Boss has to calm another baby? ;)

Hmm...says here that Giambino now has 21 HRs, TIED with Sheffield now. With that mouth, and that glove, better start SWINGING the bat. <_>

Whatever, doesn't really bother me. Just sounds like a prima donna who feels left out since Giambi got hot (kinda shocked he didn't throw him into the fire, either?).

Sheffield, 36, also concedes he's not willing to pull a Jeter and dive into the stands after a ball. "That's not happening. I tore up my shoulder, I tore up a knee. I'm not doing that again," he said.

^^

P.S. So who's the leader? One can only imagine...

Just by reading that i can tell he is trying to say he is the leader but doesn't want to say that straight up. But other then that he does have sort of a point. They hype up Jeter like crazy, make him seem like the best player baseball has seen in a long time when at best Jeter is slightly above average. A-rod is an amazing player and even he doesn't get the attention as Jeter, but still more. For once i'll agree with Sheffield on what he said there, but i still hate him.

Pass the cream, Gary! YIKES!

Who is the Captain then if not Jeter or ARod? Is he inferring that it is HIM? And we already knew the Yankee philosophy of 25 guys, 25 different cabs after the game. That news really wasn't groundbreaking. But how can you disrespect Jeter?

Just like he has been on EVERY team he has played for.....great numbers.....but a cancer in the clubhouse. I'd still take his numbers but someone has got to reform this guy at some point right? Well, maybe not.

Fortunately for us, their clubhouse is a shambles. From what I get reading the article is that Sheffield thinks that

HE is the true leader, what a riot. How can he be a leader with that bad attitude. He doesn't come across as too bright.

As obnoxious and low class as he is, he still isn't as obnoxious and low class as Bonds.

There are those people, like Sheffield who go through life with an inferiority complex, feeling like they aren't treated as fairly as their counterparts. That is their motivation to excel, to prove their worth. This develops a negative attitude which evidently in Sheffield's and Bonds case, consumes them to the point which is now evidenced in their outrageous statements. Thank God that they are only overpaid ballplayers and not politicians or we would really be in a mess.

Seems this Roid boy can't even speak English. Considering he's making so much money you'd think he could actually afford some education instead of using ebonics.

Same old piece of trash. It's only right that he plays for the Yankees

Sounds to me like sour grapes on Sheff's part. Poor baby isn't love in New York the way Jeter is. Maybe if he was half the MAN Jeter was, that would change.

(Man, did I just defend Jeter? I guess I did.)

OK there's my rant....

I didnt think it was humanly possible to hate Sheff more than I do already, but after reading that article I do.

What a **********...a roids eating, egotistical ass.

I know he's a chokee but jeter's belly button lint has more class than sheff.

"It's not a family-oriented team. In L.A., wives can fly on the plane; with the Yankees they can't," the former Dodger said. "With other teams, the wives always have functions to bring them together. Not here."

What the f***? LMAO.

it's amazing to get a look into the mind of a pure unmitigated ******* like sheff.

Has he ever considered that he is treated like "garbage" by the press and some fans, because he is a mean-spiirited, egotistical *******...

I thank God we dont have anyone who is remotely like sheff, he can put any numbers in the world on the board, but I'll take a kook like manny and day any time any where over scum like this.

what makes a plaer also at being a captain, is them being amon the veterans of the clubhouse. Jeter made his debut in 1996 with the Yanks, and Varitek for the Sox had made his major league debut in a Sox uniform #33 back in 1997. Besides that, Sheffield really is a cancer to the clubhouse, he even had blocked a trade deal whining saying he would make it tough on any new team if it indeed went down. I swear Id like to see a T-shirt that says, Have You Taken Your Sheffroids Today?
Posted

i didnt mind him making the statement concerning the trade, i thought that was admirable. Showing that he wanted to be a Yankee. But the interview with New York magazine makes me sick. As far as I knew Sheff and Jeter were friends, they would go out and eat together after games sometimes. According to a friend of mine who is in the Angels system, when Bret Prinz got traded from the Yanks to the Angels in spring training, he said that A-Rod walked around acting like he was the greatest player the world had ever seen, but it was in fact Jeter who ran the show. So according to Sheff, Jeter isnt the leader, and according to Prinz, Jeter is the leader. I'd like to believe Prinz on this one.

I wonder what the relationship between Jeter and Sheff is like today in Toronto.

the only reason giambi has 21 HRs now is cause he went by raffy's house and got some roids...sheffield is much better than him

Jason Giambi is better than Sheffield. Right now, Giambi is better than David Ortiz. (better but not more valuable)

Giambi has a 1.021 OPS, Sheffield's is .921.

Giambi has 21 HR's in 265 AB's, Sheffield has 21 HR's in 391 AB's

I could keep going, but this is too easy.

Isn't there already a thread about this? But yeah... I still hate Sheffield. But hey, if he's the cancer to their clubhouse, than there definitely is no cure for this type of cancer. Just what they needed when they're still trying to get a number 1 spot in either the East or Wild Card standings.

i always knew sheff-ass was taylor made for the yankees. what a dick. i hope a-rod and jeter exclude him from now on in their extra curicular (however you spell that crap) activities. seriously though what the hell is he thinking? he says dont trade me and then turns around and tries to take down the whole team in the media. are we sure he isnt on the sox payroll? how could he be that stupid. steinbrenner should ruin this guy. at least i respect a class act like jeter. just another reason to hate the yankees with this one. like their arent enough

Yeah, I'm sure he'll hate being excluded. Jesus Christ, these guys aren't teenage girls.

Taking down the team? I'm sure Jeter and A-Rod loved each other (for the slow, this is sarcasm, just read the epiloge in the Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty) before Sheffiod got there.

His laser double off Curt Schilling, and his bomb off Matt Clement a month ago prove he's on the Sox payroll.

These guys won't care Sheffield says when he's on his menstral cycle, you think Jeter gives a s*** what anyone thinks about him? You think A-Rod does?

Yeah, that's what "surprises" me about these "outbursts" - they come at a time when the team is winning, or beginning to win. There are so many other issues that needs to be addressed on the team, it just didn't seem like an appropriate time for him to comment; actually, there isn't EVER an appropriate time for Sheffield to make the comments he made. They weren't constructive, asking the team to step it up - sounded like he wanted an endorsement, or some honorary medal for being a Yankee. Whatever.

Had the Guardians swept, I don't think it's out of the question that Steinbrenner would've issued another "statement". He seemed pretty concerned about the bats or something, or so he was quoted as saying when he was watching Wright' rehab start. Hmm, I'd probably take his statement over Sheff's outburst.

In that article, there was a little piece about he blames the media for turning it into a race issue? Not going there.

I thought chemistry, at least pertaining to the Yankees clubhouse, is a by-product of winning. Hmm. Might have to refine that theory.

yeeaah ok, Ortiz (119 Hits) with 25 HRs, 88 RBIs, 77 Runs Scored, 1 Stolen Base, striking out 78 times while drawing MLB leading 65 walks

Giambi (77 Hits) with 21 HRs, 49 RBIs, 45 Runs Scored, striking out 73 times while drawing 60 walks--Ortiz has been hot since opening day, Giambi just "suddenly" gotten hot on july 4

Somebody tell Sheff that A-Rod/Jeter rivalry was soooooooo like, Spring Training 2004.

Maybe Sheffield feeds off anger - as a Yankee fan, I have to make whatever "good" there is to come out of this thing. When he was almost swapped to the Mets, he had the monster stretch. So if he uses the NY media to help him up his performance, then by all means

Btw, I should say that today marks 26 years, three days anniversary of Thurman Munson's death. :( True Yankee captain. :)

Dude, I'd present an arguement loaded with stats, that would tear your s*** up, but I'll spare you the embarrasment. I'll just leave you with two words At Bats, then again you're probably too much of a dumbass to know what to do with it.
