What are the chances that the redsox could pick up a qauilty Bullpen guy from the waiver system?

i think if anybody they will look within to strengthen their bullpen, I see Delcarmen sticking around, as well as Papelbon coming back in September to be a long reliever type. Dinardo should be called back, just so Myers wont be the only lefty in the bullpen anymore, which would add depth

i think delcarmen is going to stick definetly, hes got electric stuff, the bullpen is coming around especially if hansen can get called up

I heard Theo on WEEI this morning and from what he said, it doesn't sound like the Sox are going to go after bullpen help right now with the way things our going in our bullpen.

Our pen isn't THAT bad we just need Foulke to come back in 2004 form we should be fine.

This is extremely true. As long as we're ahead of the Yankees in the standings, they can (and will) block any player we'd try to get.

 

The main reason why a player would go unclaimed is because if you claim a player, there's a good chance you might get stuck with that player. The Yankees got burned by Jose Canseco a few years back I think... he was placed on waivers, the Yankees tried to block him, and got stuck with him.

 

Especially any useful reliever, a team like the Yankees would most certainly block a Wagner type guy, so I don't see that happening.

 

Blockbuster deals rarely take place after July 31st for that exact reason.

Don't forget that most of the BP help would have to clear the waiver-line in their division/league before they made it to the AL east. Wagner/Romero/Guardado wouldn't make it out of their respective divisions.

I wouldn't expect big names to go through waivers. Last year I think the only big name was Larry Walker.

 

You may hear some small low key names but nothing that will be of any significance...what you see is what you get this year. I doubt these teams will change much, which I am ok with. I like this Red Sox team and although they won't add outside players....they can do a lot of upgrading internally and still have players coming around to fill there previous roles.
