as i stated in another thread torre is entertaining ideas of sending small to AAA

Do you have a link where he said that? There is absolutely no way Small should be going down to AAA. He saved the game two nights ago going into extra innings because I don't trust anyone else to come out of the BP and throw up scoreless innings. Small and Chacon have been nothing short of outstanding and although it doesn't look like it did in the beginning of the year, the starting roation is shaping up at just the right time. All the Yanks need is Jaret to be as good as people say he will be and I'll take a rotation of RJ, Moose, Jaret, Small and Chacon into the post-season (if they get there) with some confidence.

I can't imagine them sending down Small. What kind of sense does that make?! Send down Embree for goodness sakes, not Small.

Sounds like another guy on the roster.

Bullpen is exhausted right now; I'm baffled at some of Torre's moves, but wherever Small helps out the most, that's fine by me.

An interesting stat for the month of August:

Average runs allowed for Starting Pitcher. Yankees: 2.92

Red Sox: 4.27

Average runs allowed per game Yankees: 4.23

Red Sox: 6.45

Yankees record for August is 8-5

Red Sox record for August is 9-2

The Red Sox offense this month has been great even against good pitchers but this isn’t something you would want to count on especially in the postseason.

Exactly. The Red Sox starting pitchers have been pretty bad this month, as evidenced by your statistics. Which absolutlely blows my mind that some members of Talksox are confident that not only the Red Sox will make the playoffs, but also win the division.

The Red Sox' offense probably can carry them to a playoff spot, but they won't go anywhere in October without much better starting pitching than what they've been getting of late.

on the surface that is a good point by bronxy, but basically doesnt say anything. The nature of who you play might have some bearing on taking a two week snap shot of a season like that.

The most significant point you made, however, was referencing the win-loss records.

Your make shift starting rotation can do a great job and have a miniscule ERA but here on the planet earth I think they determine the standings by wins, not based on any of those other stats.

I agree that it all comes down to wins and losses. I also agree with the philosophy that stats are like a lamp post to a drunk, you use them more for support then for illumination. One thing I have seen through the years being a Yankee fan is in the end you need pitching you can count on.

something that the Sox thrive on is that if the offense is behind the starting piitchers will stay in as long as they can for the offense to catchup; as well as if the pitcher is struggling (which hasnt been every game) the offense will pick him up. again you want stats look at Wakefield what he has done for this yeam in August, and is the most consistent pitcher to give long innings of work, like a complete game against new york in July

this is the same point we were in last year- around this time the startin pitchin started coming around and we went on a streak of 12 in a row, also there tends to be more runs scored in fenway than yankee stadium, although right now our offense could score just about anywhere right now.

It was 10 in a row but the Red Sox went 34-12 from this point on for the rest of the season last year. Do you expect that kind of success with your pitching this year?

The Red Sox team ERA is the worst it’s been since 1997, that was the year before Pedro arrived. Oddly enough Tim Wakefield was your Ace in 1997 like this year.

Ok Tim Wakefield is not the ace, it's a toss up between Wells and Clement.

NO one gives a s*** about the teams ERA, the team is winnng. They're beating good teams thier beating bad teams, they are beating the s*** out of everyone.

Kevin Millar could be the starting pitcher if they win I don't care.

If wright keeps pitching like this, the rotations might be closer than you think, but the red sox rotation at this point is still better.

Oh he may keep pitching like this, for a week, until he gets hurt again.

There are a lot of things for the Sox to worry about, but I doubt big bag jarrid wright coming back to the rotation is one of them.

Wright was an overachiever in Cleveland, and he's been injury prone since, what about this kid is supposed to scare the Sox?

I mean come on ... he's no Aaron Small.

Wakefield is leading the starters in wins, ERA, innings pitched and is a close second in strike outs, and he kills the Yankees. Sounds like the ace to me.
