Good lord does it really matter we were playing Tampa Bay and we won, If Adam Stern is so bad that Francona cant put him in the lineup to spell Manny for a game or two, whats the point of him being on the big club

The point is that A.) Manny Ramirez originally asked for the day off against the White Sox & B.) The Devil Rays can beat anyone on a given day, really.... look at the Yankees and look at us the last time we were down there. Stern isn't so bad that Francona can't put him in and it's nice to see him play some, but he is surely no Manny on the field.

P.S. Your boy, Manny is selfish.

You ask your best friend to help you out and loan you some money. He says no even though you know he has it. You find a way to get the money elsewhere. Can you honestly tell me that you don't see your friend in a new light now?

Stuff like this happens every year with manny, the bottom line is that he is going to 300. with 40 homers and 140 RBI and in the end that production is going to help you win more games, then his off field antics will make them lose games.

I agree, and I don't want him traded, but I'm not going to give him a free pass either.

everyone should clean their vages.. simple as that. the fact is that 99% of the people are upset that manny wants to be traded, 1% of the people are upset that he wouldn't play. the media in boston blows everything out of proportion. one minute manny is the man, next minute manny is the devil. it was like that with pedro also.

people seriously need to stop reading the boston globe and herald for sox information. just watch the games and make your own damn conclustions, half those sports writers have no idea what's going on and the other half barely know what's going on.

i don't understand why everyone is stressing so badly over this situation. today i went out for a run with my gf, bbq'ed up some food on the grill and now i'm painting the bathroom with my housemates drinking beers. we are all sox fans and not once have we bitched about the manny situation, we actually joked about it. relax people, everything will turn out to be ok.

God Damnit leave Manny the hell alone. I don't understand how you can get on a guy who's been the best player on your team for how many years? All because he wanted a god damn day off. I'm really starting to get pissed off at about half the people on this board. LEAVE HIM THE f*** ALONE. I don't care if he crawls to first base when he hits a ground ball. I dont care if he hits a pop up and walks right back to the dug out. As long as he's hitting 40/100+ every year then I don't give a s*** what he's doing anywhere else. If he wants to take a lounge chair out to LF with him then I'm fine with it.

This is why Manny wants to leave, because of fans like you critizing every f-ing decision he makes. Maybe you should think more about how he got a hit in every single game last post season, and think less about him taking 1 GOD DAMN DAY OFF when we're in first place ... IN f***ING JULY!

Amen. There's a game tonight, the Sox are in first place, it's the Sat. night in the middle of the summer, and in approximately 26 hrs. most if not all trade rumors will be over. Relax and enjoy the moment for what it is.

I doubt that Manny will be traded, for a number of reasons ( salary, salary comphensation, equal trade value, complexity of multi-team trade ). That said, what we don't know is how much Manny has pissed off Theo and if he has, then the 5/10 vesting becomes relevent.

Excuse me, but Manny didn't state : I want to be traded cause the fans are so hostile, he staed that : he wanted to be traded because of " privacy issues ". He's been loved, adored, and appreciated by most fans and media ( with the exception of the " Manny momments" ).

He shows up early to take extra BP, and that's it. He's not shagging extra fly balls. If he practices so hard maybe he ought to quit, because he plays in the field like it's the company picnic softball game.

But you don't seem to understand what it means to turn your back on your teammates when asked to help them in a pinch. And the fact that we won the game is irrelevant. The damage was already done when he said "no".

0.01% is only 1 in 10,000, and since Manny has made only 4,000 outs in his career, then by your logic, he wouldn't have even done it once yet. I'd say it's more like 30% of ground ball outs that he doesn't run it out. Now, that may change for a little while because of the play against the Rays where he was safe on a bad throw.

Look, I don't want to see Manny go. He's one of my favorite players of all time, but that doesn't mean I should not be critical of the way he plays the game or how he turns his back on the team.

holy crap you're a geek, i appreciate your response but lay off the math corrections, i was exaggerating to make a point. critical of Manny is fine, bashing him is wrong and he does not deserve it.

derajmd, uhhh you really dont know anything. The time he asked Manny was like ater the game ended, and this was around 11 pm. They didnt know at the time he wouldve been placed on the DL, and Tito had to play Millar and either called up players Stern or Hyzdu. Dont even start going blaming Tito for that, because thats not his job to find a replacement, its Theo's job to do so! Im not sure if you're reading the papers or anything but Sox through tomorrow are looking for a replacement for Trot that would be included in a packaged trade.

i know that you're a moron

Good arguments aren't formed with exaggerations. When you present an exaggerated numerical value it weakens whatever point you were trying to make because you appear to not know what you are talking about.

I'm not bashing him, just being critical of his style of play.

I want him to stay because there is no replacing his bat. I would also like someone on the team to get in his face about his antics. He is a "professional" and should be expected to act like one.

I think the more you "get in Manny's face" the less he's going to be apart of the team. Manny seems like the kind of guy that the more he's loved the harder he tries. Getting in his face and trying to put him in his place is just going to make him try less, and be less a part of the team.

Has it been tried yet? I don't know that it has or hasn't. But I think if it was done tactfully it could work. Although given his antics you may be right.

I actually think I'd be shocked if he was gone. I know they are really looking to replace him anyway they can but, like some of us have already said, the deal is much too complex to go down before tomorrow at 4. I'm really wishing that the trot replacement would happen though.

A++ in math and captain of the Debate team. You must be very proud.

(note the extra "+", also an exaggeration, I guess I don't learn)

Anyway, I think we're on the same side here. Neither of us want to see Manny go, but I think people, mostly the evil media, are making way too big a deal out of Manny's behavior. He doesn't do any of this with contempt to anyone or the team. He may be a little naive to his own behavior, but with the media, some fans, and maybe the management (hopefully not) treating him the way they have, is no way of making him aware of his odd behavior. It'll run him out of town. Just what the media wants. They're bored with the Sox being in first place with nothing to complain about and they loved the big trade last year (me too), they want to see it again. Anything for a major subject to talk about. It doesn't help the team at all though. He's known as a guy that everyone in the clubhouse loves, except maybe Curt, but Curt is an arrogant dushbag if you ask me (doesn't mean I don't like his pitching and what he's done for the Sox). I know everyone hates the saying 'let Manny be Manny' but I'm down with it so as long as he produces the way he does and isn't intentionally a dick.

Look smartass, making good arguments doesn't put a pocket-protector in my shirt. It's not my fault I wasn't born an idiot (yes that comment is directed at you). I'm cool leaving the barbs aside, but if you want to keep slinging the zingers, that's fine with me. Four years in the Marines is basically four years of talking s*** during downtime. So I can go all day long and my skin is thicker than a rhino's. Truce?

All kidding aside, thanks for your time in the Marines, I appreciate it.

Smartass maybe but I don't consider myself an idiot.

Truce.

What is it with new members coming on and immidiately ripping people who have been around here for a while about their comments? Hey buddy, tek has 768 posts and you can tell he (correct me if I'm wrong on that one, tek -- sorry) really loves the Red Sox. You have made 6 posts on here and you're already coming in the wrong way? C'mon, show some respect.

Good. I love talking baseball and arguments are the essence of these boards. Just come correct. Say what you mean and mean what you say and you'll get nothing but respect from me.

Yankee fans get it a little different, but that's their fault for coming to a Sox board.

And Tex, thanks for sticking up for me, but I don't think I need special treatment for being here longer.
