Reyes plays short, so where do they fill that hole once they move him to third? Which I doubt they would want to do since he is a slick-fielding shortstop.

But that isn't the thing that will make this trade not happen. The money is. Wright's making 350K. That's pennies for the type of game he brings to the field. There is only one better value playing this year and it's Miguel Cabrera, who is making 350K as well, but is putting up insane numbers in Florida.

Come to think of it.....they did deal away there future last year to make a run at the playoffs....

why wouldn't they do it again?? this time involving bigger names

especially when they add an ace like Pedro and are looking at a closer in Baez...hmmmmm

They did but they got burned by that Victor Zambrano deal (for Kazmir) and I think they'll be a lot more careful this time around.

Of course, Victor Zambrano and Manny Ramirez are not even in the same stratosphere talent wise, but you get my point-- that was a very stupid trade and they should have learned their lesson.

I have to actually correct myself though because again...Omar was not there...so that was a different situation. I don't know we can debate this back and forth forever because both sides bring up good points. Too many details and too many possible players included....we will just have to wait till Sunday.

I'm really bad with Microsoft Paint, but you get the picture. Theo, make it happen.

Wow, the Mets are trying to compete the Yankees for some backpage ink on this? I'm sorry that the Yankees have to suck collectively as a whole so as to make Carlos Beltran's disappointing [regular?] season fly under the radar. Of course, you can't have postseason heroics if you don't even MAKE it there.

Deal is not happening, if at all, until the offseason.

I just hope we can get a Shawn Chacon before the deadline

I detect sarcasm, no? ;)

WHO ELSE IS OUT THERE?! Pitching-wise. No one wants to trade with the Yankees. Not even the Royals.

Saw this an a Yankees board (off-topic):

Take it for what it's worth, but a caller on EEI, referencing a senior source with one of the teams is claiming the following three-way deal:

Sox give up Manny and prospects

Mets give up Cameron and three prospects

Devil Rays give up Aubrey Huff

There are other particulars, but, long story short, Manny goes to the Mets and the Red Sox end up with Aubrey Huff and Mike Cameron.

According to the caller, Manny's agent is involved and they are merely working out the details of the deal at this point.

Well, here comes another eleven pages.

I doubt that's how Omar Minaya picks his players.

Why do you think that??

Did I not mention its an excellent marketing strategy. This is not a racist comment its a smart business comment. He needs to compete against the Yanks and the Mets have a high latino fan base. With the Yanks being down this year its an important opportunity for Omar to capitalize. The Mets are growing in popularity and with an opportunity to take over the NL East and help the Red Sox get more of a chance to knock down the NY champ Yankees...why wouldn't he???

Think in-depth would you please....people who make simple stupid comments without any insight drive me crazy. Omar is a smart business man who has to compete against the Yankees and has done a tremendous job so far....he needs to be aggressive and will continue to be....Theo Epstein is aggressive....that is why I feel this trade could truely take flight

I agree with that. He's got a chance here to make his team the team to watch in New York and why wouldn't he try and capitalize on that? Manny would certainly draw the crowds in, just like Pedro did. He's not dumb. Giving up Wright is a huge deal, yeah, but adding Manny to their lineup could propel them upwards and give him the edge he needs.

where will they get the money to pay the rest of his contract? he still gets like 62 mill if the trade him

The Mets are one of the few teams that can afford him. If there is a will there is a way. If Omar wants him and is willing to make an aggressive move, I'm sure the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets can figure out how to handle money.

Is it me, or is every person quoting un-named sources full of crap? Aren't the un-named sources the same people who claimed AJ Burnett was already a member of the Orioles? Or even the Red Sox?

That having been said, depending on the prospects, I'd make that deal.

yeah that list meaning nothing to me....all the talking heads of the Globe, ESPN analysts, etc....the only people who know the story are the GMs and Owners...unless they say it...I'm not going to believe it....

by the way....Bronson Arroyo is starting tonight not Wade Miller so:

1) Wade Miller has been traded or

2) Bronson Arroyo is being showcased

Or Miller is hurt.
