Ok so I want to know who people would rather have down the long road

Bill Mueller vs. Kevin Youkilis?????

I believe Youk has more power potential with the bat and is less of an injury risk, he is also a little younger (26?).

Bill Mueller is close to the lead in BA with RISP. So we can call him clutch?? and switch hitting, along with the Gold Glove he will win this year (I'm calling it).

....here is something I was thinking of as a side note....this Burnett deal sounds messy and Theo might be able to step in if things get real ugly....he should make the trade and include Mike Lowell (take care of some of the money along with Florida) then turn and send him on his way with a prospect to Minnesota for JC Romero.

i was just thinking about that possibility. i think that would be a great idea.

i think in that the starting 3B next year should be youkilis. hes going to be as good if not a better hitter than mueller who will be 36 next year.

Well you said long term so I have to go with Youk. I want Billy for the here and now of this season, and the playoffs, but he's gone after this year.

its in here cuz rumors are abound that the sox are trying to get lefty reliever JC Romero and twins want in turn from the Sox a third baseman

yea exactly. i want to know who people are more partial too and which would be better to trade....plus my whole thing about Lowell

stupid Marlins sound pissed at us cause of Kevin Millar....big deal the guy sucks what are they pissed about...THEY WANT HIM???? TAKE HIM BACK

It looks to me like Youk is going to get traded, unless someone else can come up with another reason Youk got sent back down to Pawtucket.

youk I bet is more or less gettin tired and pissed off i bet at francona and upper management for him being the yo-yo this season. Bill Mueller is having a gold glove year for Sox, so them having him stay on at 3rd base with Tony G, a 13 year veteran with know-how of every position except for pitcher and catcher on the bench is better solution. Hey and Sox can also put Halamma into the mix of players they can trade, haha, god he now leads the pitchers in ERA at 6.18 after givin up the 2-run shot.

Mueller. he WILL win a gold glove and he's been great in july proving that he can handle the pressure from this close AL East race. just seems like someone i could count on. have you seen some of his great plays lately?

it seems like every day ill see mueller dive for a ball that couldve easily been a hit, then he'll quickly get up and throw a rocket to get the man out on first. he has still got the goods thru next season for the sox

definitely comfortable when there's a grounder to third. he just gets it almost every time.

youk is 9 years younger than mueller

I see Youk as still being very immature and unseasoned vs. Mueller. Mueller may be older and in not as good physical shape, but he brings experience and quiet competence into the mix. He consistently makes the difficult plays with no fanfare, no nerve and no excuses. Youk will be great in the future but he is still not ready to take Mueller's place., IMO

anyone think youk is too old to have any hidden potential?

damon wants $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and the yankees already said they will go aftre him in the offseason and damon probaly will go

i like mueller but hes going to be 35 next year and has had injury problems

Johnny Damon has since changed his stance and said he would be willing to work out a 3 year deal with the Sox and noted the Yankees arent really at top of his list with their checkbooks in his face. With so far if Youk is traded to Twins for JC Romero, and Mueller possibly in his last season. I feel Tony G would have a great impact at third base next season. with 2nd base, hanley, or pedroia.

Here's a crazy idea: Why not Youk for Romero?

I can't believe I'm saying this, because I believe Youk is the long term solution for the Red Sox at third, but hear me out:

The Minnesota Twins love solid defensive, cheap young players. Youkilis is ALL these things. He's a decent hitter with a great eye, and would fit in well with the Twins overall scheme. He's blocked behind Mueller now, but we all know he's major league ready. Also, although a solid player, Kevin's not a superstar. He didn't stick with the club this time for two reasons: The club wants him to play everyday, and the man can't play second base (which was the biggest hole with Bellhorn on the DL).

This is not exactly mortgaging the future. JC Romero is 29 years old and is a solid reliever. He's got a decent strikeout rate but more walks than you'd like to see but he's allowing a .216 average to opposing hitters. He dominates lefties but is also very good against righties.

IF both Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia pan out, I don't see Youkilis being in the team's long term plans. Edgar Renteria has already said he'd change positions for Hanley, and even if he doesn't, these three guys will all occupy third, short, and second in some fasion down the road (my prediction would be Renteria at third, Ramirez at short, and Pedroia at second). This is a classic trade of trading from a strength area to help the weaker spot for both teams.

Hanley won't be ready in 06, but he should be ready in 07. Sign a stopgap 3B (Bill freaking Mueller would be perfect) for the 2006 season and prepare either Edgar or Hanley for that position in 07.

Thoughts? Mike Lowell just seems way to expensive for a team like the Twins to be interested in him IMO.

well as i said before, i wouldnt mind seeing this line up

Marlins get Kelly Shoppach, Bronson Arroyo, Alan Embree, prospect from Twins

Red Sox get JC Romero, AJ Burnett, prospect from Twins or Marlins

Twins get Mike Lowell (could use him as utility infielder), Kevin Youkilis. Abe Alvarez
