There are reports that the Rangers are looking to move soriano and that the Red Sox are very interested. What do all of you think of that?
Posted
The reports are being said all over the radio out here and on the internet. They say its because of lack of production from bellhorn

Yay Soriano!

...not. Soriano is ok, i think he would be an upgrade but i am not believeing this. I already feel like someone stole part of me after the burnett trade seemed to be BS.

Reports from my ass. Soriano ain't goin' anywhere.

what are you talking about, the Rangers have been shopping Soriano since the offseason, he almost went to the Stros back in february, and remember all the rumors about him going to the Mets. So please dont say he aint goin nowhere, because the Rangers would love to rid themelf of him and the money he is going to command next year in arbitration, and want to move Michael Young back to 2B and possibly bring up a SS, or trade for a SS until their prospect is ready.

I have heard nothing of this from any credible sources, but it makes more than perfect sense for the Red Sox, except for the fact that they have that kid that Gammons is always talking about (dont remember the name off the top of my head) who plays second. But for this year and to have a better team Sori makes perfect sense. And they could possibly trade him in the offseason if they want their rookie to play next year. But I could easily see Texas shipping Sori to Beantown for a package somewhat like Hanley Ramirez, John Halama (or maybe Gonzalez or even a Mantei), Abe Alvarez, and either Youk, Mueller, Millar (if these reports of him wanting out are true, despite the fact he has denied them recently), Adam Stern, Bellhorn, Cora, or Roberto Petagine. It would make perfect sense for both teams, especially since the Sox made the completely ridiculous decision to bring a SS in for a 4yr contract when they knew they had a SS ready to come up in about 2. They could have easily brought a Nomar or a Barry Larkin in for 1 year until Hanley was ready, but opted to go with Renteria, which will do nothing but delay the growth of Ramirez and maybe even possibly set him back while he is waiting til Renteria is gone. So this trade makes sense for both teams, and the Rangers could ship out there SS prospect for a reliever or something.

Sox fans, tell me if you like this deal;

Red Sox Get:

2B Alfonso Soriano

Rangers Get:

SS Hanley Ramirez

RP Matt Mantei (or Halama/Gonzalez)

SP Abe Alvarez

2B/IF Mark Bellhorn (or Youk/Mueller/Millar/Petagine/Stern/Cora)

Not that this is actually being discussed or planned or anything, its just something i put together in the last five minutes that i think could benefit both teams (not looking at it from a Yankee fan's point of view, just that of plainly a baseball observer/analyst).

Now for me personally, if Sori, who is one of our own, goes anywhere near the home clubhouse at Fenway Park, i will be very crushed and disappointed, as will probably all Yankee fans, and maybe even Sori himself who loved being a Yankee and actually still maintains residency in Manhatten during the offseason(goes back and forth between NY and the Dominican)...but would no doubt play hard and put his feelings aside to win.

Abolutely NO WAY this will happen. Theo would never deplete the farm for a problem that can / will be fixed internally. There are too many other needs pitching, pitching, and pitching.

Graffanino on radar

The Sox are believed to have shown interest in acquiring veteran second baseman Tony Graffanino from the Kansas City Royals. The Sox unsuccessfully attempted to sign the 33-year-old as a free agent two winters ago, but the Royals are expected to try to pare their larger salaries (Graffanino makes $1.1 million) in the upcoming weeks.

The right-handed hitter, who plays all four infield positions, would be an ideal fit for a team currently carrying 12 pitchers. Graffanino entered last night batting .298 with three homers. . . .

Boston Herald

I think grafanino is a good short term replacement and probaly wont cost to much.

Soriano is an interesting option, but that offer of Hanley Ramirez + is pretty rediculous. Theo Epstein has said about 1,000 times that Hanley's not going anywhere, and why would he? He's a dynomite talent who's at least 2 years from the big leagues. With Renteria in town, there's no reason to rush Hanley and he can get the development time he needs. Renteria has already offered to switch positions for Hanley down the road.

how about orlando hudson?

I actually like Hudson...

In fact I like a lot of the guys on Toronto including Hillenbrand (who I would like to see play 1st for us) and Ted Lilly (would be excellent lefty out of the bullpen). Miguel Batista has also looked good.

If I had to build my team around one pitcher I would probably take Roy Halladay

We should deffinitly be talking to Toronto about possible moves.

i like hudson and hilenbrand but i dont think the blue jays are going to make any trade soon because they still think they hav a shot for the playoffs if they get another sp

possibly shmidt

hudson is an upgrade defensivley (4 errors in 86 games this year  ) offenively is better than bellhorn but not as good as belliard or grafinino

Lilly is available it's just at what cost. Shea is definitely available, but no way Sox would take him back for two reasons bad mouthing Theo after being traded and the fact that he absolutely sucks the second half ( historically ).

I'd love to have Soriano..but i def would not trade Hanley for him!!! Plus we have bigger problems than second base!!1 We need a GOD DAMN CLOSER!!! I say trade one of the starters to get say...BILLY WAGNER. Then put Schilling back where he belongs..in the starting rotation.

I will deffinitly agree that I want Billy Wagner....you have insurance is Foulke cant return to form but even more so....if Foulke DOES return to form....we are talking about the best bullpen in baseball....

Foulke could take back the closer spot while Timlin and Wagner are your left and right set up men.....good lord

and yes Schilling back in the rotation gives us an ace which we do not have at this moment.

Add me to the Hudson fan list. I think he's got that Pokey Reese type energy and defensive ability.

However, is he right for this team? He really is limited to second base (unlike Pokey) and would serve as a backup at only one position. He'd be a phenominal devensive replacement late in games for Bellhorn, but to my knowledge he's not experienced at the other positions.

It would be better to have a guy like Pokey (man I miss him) who can play more than one position, and play it well. Having that versatility allows you to make more moves late in close games (ahem, Olerud for Cora). We're better off with Cora on the bench IMO.

exactly let the hammer fall by releasing embree and halamma, call up paplebon from triple A, and re-sign el guapo back--now that would be a bullpen for teams to be scared of, especially if foulke returns to his form
Posted

Papelbon might be a reach as he has struggled a little at AAA. El Guapo is a good story but we may need to be realistic.....simply having Wagner and a recovered Foulke would be all the difference just look at it.....

Foulke (closer)

Wagner (LHP set up)

Timlin (RHP set up)

Bradford (RHP situational relief)

Myers (LHP situational relief)

Rotation

Schiling, clement, wells, wakefield, miller

arroyo long relief or trade him for a 2B

maybe package arroyo for soriano???

Who wouldn't love that bullpen?

That being said-- The Sox would have to mortgage the future to get a guy like Wagner. I know I'm always coming in here ad a buzz killer-- but I don't see that happening.

how about maybe

Phillies get - arroyo, stern, youkilis, cash and maybe a prospect

Red Sox get - wagner and chase utley

Utleys batting .314 with 12 hrs and 50 rbi

also defensively he plays 2B and 1B and has made only 5 errors in 76 games

I'm not so sure...if the Phils move Padilla or give up on him which sounds realistic cause he sucks...they will look for a new pitcher....enter Bronson Arroyo....a pitcher who doesnt give up many HRs and would possibly have potential at there softball field.

I believe they are lacking a young catcher...enter Kelly Shoppach and they would need a possible replacement to the bullpen for depth since losing Wagner in the name of Abe Alvarez.....

basically im just saying the package that was potential for Burnett may not be much different than the package for Wagner. Another team may also get involved since we know San Diego is looking and has good relations with us.....the Phils could use a 3B too which means they may be interested in Sean Burroughs....something could get done here without killing our farm system but its also an upgrade for Philly since they have another closer and would add to there rotation

shoppach is by far the easiest prospect for theo to get rid of since mirabelli and varitek are goin nowhere for awhile. Adam Stern I can see the Sox trading off as well, since Gabe will be coming back sometime next month to take over the 4th oufielder spot. Plus if Sox send back Stern to minors, Atlanta will be able to pick him up on teh Rule 5 draft and sox will get nothin in return. A package deal of Bronson, Shoppach, Alvarez, and Stern would be appealing to any team.
