Could it be that Hanley Ramriez could get the jump instead of Dustin Pedoria? Ramirez is on the 40 man roster and wouldn't require someone getting bumped off in case of a promotion.

i see hanley starting in 2007 since he is still in AA, and Dustin Pedroia keeps getting toted as the new second baseman of 2006

Yeah I think we will see Pedoria soon, but isn't a little odd that Hanley Ramriez is playing 2B when his natural postion is SS?

Posted
actually if you go over to portland's main wwebsite it shows his role is still shortstop, he has in several games filled in at second base. it could be likely if edgar has same year as this season, possibly see Hanley get the call up in07 to be the new shortstop, with egar possibly be traded off

I don't believe Hanley has started one game at 2B, the surprising thing about that,

Also Theo Epstien was quoted on WEEI after Pedoria was promoted that Hanley Ramriez would be promoted over Dustin Pedoria if an injury were to happen to Edgar Renteria.

thats right, for shortstop--hanley is next in line for shortstop, and dustin for second base

Hanley won't play SS in a Red Sox uniform until '09, because I don't see anyone taking Renteria right now, nor do I see the Red Sox making any trade with Renteria involved.

The thing I'm saying is why on earth would Hanley be playing 2B?

Um, excuse me y'all I don't know too much about things like this... whos Hanley Ramriez?

He's considered to be the Red Sox' top prospect. He plays shortstop for the AA afilliate, the Portland Sea Dogs in Portland, ME.

I still say Pedroia should get the nod to come up. He at least has some AAA at bats, I don't care if we need to bump someone off the 40 man.

ooooooh, thanks hun

hanley is basically the next "manny" in offense style, except he plays shortstop and has johnny damon type speed

If Hanley were the next "Manny" he'd be the number one prospect in all of baseball. Hanley doesn't have anywhere close to the power Manny Ramriez does, but he is a terrific athelte and has world class speed.

possibly is the key word.. who would take a 10 mil per ss with those numbers? not i.

I guess you could call him "the next Manny", but like said, he's only hit 6 HR this year, but his speed certainly makes up for that. He leads the Sea Dogs with 18 SB, and a certain plus is that he doesn't strike out very much.

There's a lot of talent that definitely should be tried at the major league level. There's no doubt that Pedroia will get called up and get some ABs at the major league level, and I'm sure Hanley will be moved up to AAA for next season, if not before that. Right now, it's tough letting some of these guys hit up in the majors because of all the pitching help we're having to bring in. I still feel bad that we can't get Youk into the action anymore than we do. (He's back down at AAA now, for all those who didn't know)

We should have started giving Youk spot starts at first to get the Kentucky Fried King out of the lineup. Though as much as I bash the guy he is hitting .273 which isn't bad judging that we're paying him beans.

I sure hope Kevin Millar is startin to perform the way he did second part of the season. So far for the 3 games of the series he is batting .400 (5 hits for 9 ABs) 3 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 4 walks, 0 Ks

Hanley started at 2nd base again for Portland.

C'mon if you want to play the blind man go walk with the shepard, but me my eyes are wide f***ing open (another Pulp Fiction reference)

Something is going to happen with Bellhorn within 2 weeks I predict.

dude hanley is a top notch prospect, no doubt at all, but its always a big risk to send a AA player straight to the majors, skipping triple A altogether. Dustin Pedroia is likely to get the go-ahead call shortly. cla meredih who was tearing it up on the mound in double A, so the sox called him up to the majors to relief pitch against Seattle, he got roughed up in one inning giving up a grand slam, and was sent back to double A right after. fact of matter, they need time to produce and work out what they need to. because playing against 10-year veteran All Star players is a lot different than guys who just graduated from high school and college. I say they should have him be in triple A for next season and dont rush him. Dustin Pedroia would be a great fit as new second basman over bellhorn.

it's really too bad for Bellhorn cause I've always been an optimist with him. I think he's very underrated defensively and he's made some big hits. But it's really hard to ignore those strikeouts when his average is that low

WHy is the title of this thread Hanley Ramirez starting 2nite? He is not starting 2nite, he wont start 2nite, and he has very little second base experience. Again, another stupid threat opened up.

ehdit: Unless you are referring to minor leagues, then possibly, he wont play 2B for the redsox though.

yes thats what he meant. hanley is playing 2nd at portland....which is a sign they might try him up at the majors. i think he is on the 40 man roster so they wouldn't need to designate someone for assignment if they brought him up (im not positive how that works). Pedroia on the other hand they would need to release someone. i know there are players we would love to send on there way but many are contributors in some way or another and its hard to dump a player to bring up an inexperienced rookie. they might both have an opportunity to do well and either way they would be an upgrade. ill let the sox figure out who because i dont know enough about either to make a decision. i do like the low number of strikeouts Pedroia has.

as a side note....hansen took a physical today which means he is close to signing. if he goes and dominates the minors early (as many predict) he would probably join the team within a month or two. i would love to see that.

I agree but it doesn't give the Sox many lefty relievers and you know how much the Sox love matchups. Go ahead and mention Myers name like i havent heard it before but he is a situational reliever and can't take on the task by himself. Only other lefty we have is Halama and he isn't much better....so having three choices is better than Myers or Myers.

Don't get me wrong....I hate Alan Embree more than any other player on the Red Sox and would love to see him replaced. My only thing is there might not be a huge difference between Hanley and Dustin at this point so they may just take the guy who is already on the roster.

Posted
hanley or pedroia getting called up, hmm i got an idea to make room in the roster, how about designating embree for assignment--well thats what everybody would do

If Bellhorn goes on the DL, I think I'd rather just see them bring up Hanley to back up Cora rather than find room on the 40 man roster for Pedroia. I don't think either of them would see that much playing time except for a start here or there.

If they want one of these two to start every night, then I say go on and make the roster move and get Pedroia. Who knows maybe he'd make Bellhorn the next Wally Pipp.
