His parents are Dominican, he lived in DR for awhile and I see no problem with him playing for DR. But hey what I say doesn't matter, I a Yankee fan.

i believe the statement was his parents are of dominican descent. it sounds like they are trying to make him more dominican than what he is but whatever. i visited china once. im not chinese

I went to Canada once. Can I play for the Canadian team?

you can take larry walkers place on the roster because he wants to play for france since he speaks french.

Hey everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Being half Dominican I can say that I wouldn't mind if he did or didn't play. Yea he was born in the US, so what you represent what you want.

You represent what your passport is. If he has a Dominican passport, fine, let him play. So long as he's a citizen. But I highly doubt that A-Rod has anything but a blue passport.

^^^^^ True I see your point, but I don't understand why it bothers some people. Also didn't Manny become a citizen? I think he has a blue one and he is representing DR, and I think Albert too.

Manny Ramirez--Born: May 30, 1972, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Alex Rodriguez--Born: July 27, 1975, New York, NY USA

if you cant see the difference then you are blind.

Not blind, I just don't see what the big deal is.

The big deal is that it would be nice to see some loyalty to the country that gives him the freedom to play the game he loves and gets paid to do so. it might not be a big deal to some but i just feel its a big deal to me and im stating my opinion. i know there are others on this board that like to hate a-rod so im just giving them one more reason. no big deal to you...big deal to me.

I have to give ARod some credit. At least he feels strongly enough to want to represent "some" country, unlike Sheffield who "plays when he gets paid to play". Let him go. There's no shortage of American infield talent.

that man is a fake ass dominican. here him tell it, he's "American." he needs to get that third therapist back to help him with those issues. but suddenly he's 100% dominican?

SANTO DOMINGO.- The question in the minds of baseball enthusiasts in The Dominican Republic is with which country Alex Rodriguez will play for in the International World Series of Baseball? In the corners, commercial establishments, offices, sport fields and clubs the question is the same one almost always, given the double nationality of the Yankees third baseman. Nevertheless, that question already has its answer and it comes from the one and only A-Rod: ``I’m going to play with the Dominican Republic’s team”. Alex gave the answer to a special TV program that will air next Friday at 9:00 at night in Antena Latina with reporter Juan Jose Rodriguez. Alex answered the question during the series that his team celebrated the last week against the Baltimore Orioles. “ I want to represent my country, I am going to play with the Dominican Team”, Rodriguez insisted, who added that “ I want it to be said in that same exact way, that I feel like one hundred percent Dominican”. During the Alex interview he also spoke of hitting his 400th home run 400, doing it with the New York Yankees and other subjects

He is said he FEELS Dominican. Let the man be, he is the kind of person who you ( Cass) have said should come with a mute button.

I feel Senegalian but I wouldn't be able to play for that team.

Oh come the f*** on, how much more ignorant can people get? Can he be proud of his background? Can the man appreciate that he is dominican? But i guess living in america with people like you who preach freedom are not allowed to make the choices they feel, or do what they shall, or be proud of what they are because of what this country supposedly gave them.

I am half puerto rican and i cheered Ivan Rodriguez to win the home run derby. I been to puerto rico twice and don't even speak a full sentence of spanish. I guess i should be ashamed because i didn't go for mark teixiera. I guess i should be ashamed of refering to myself as Puerto rican. Same goes for my black side, i guess i shouldn't call myself that either. I was born in massachusetts and i know damn well that makes me an american, and i am damn proud to be an american now. Not back in the day when "full bred proud american" fools like you would spit at me in the street or lynch me.

Just for making a topic complaining and trying to make the man seem like he is horrible just for being proud of his background, you make yourself out to look like a total ass in the eyes of those who really live out what the meaning of this country is. That is BEING WHO YOU ARE AND BEING PROUD OF WHAT YOU ARE.

I feel sick.

Oh I thought this was about his game winning homerun off Schilling, but instead its about people being racist. Well done guys.

Nope, but if you want us to make you feel welcome, I'll glady start a thread about how the Knicks, New York Rangers, and the city of New York sucks, if you'd like.

Tex- why does the city of New York suck, and don't give me the Yankees excuse.

I can tell you for him.

It's too big, noisy, and polluted. Everything moves too fast. The people are arrogant as all hell (more than anywhere else in the ENTIRE world) and are full of themselves for the most part. The accent annoys me (lets not talk about a Boston accent. Almost no one has a Boston accent while TONS of people have a New York accent), and last but not least you have the yankees. Hah.

Its only saving grace is that it is a Democratic stronghold.

The accent thing, not true. I think every city has noise, pollution, and moves fast. In every place you will find arrogance, and the Yankees thing ok I will give that one cause your Red Sox fan. Its an opinion and . I just wondered cause I don't like places ( I.E. Boston and before any one says " Who cares why you don't like Boston" its my opinion and how I feel.)

Thanks for the explination

chill the f*** out big papi...no where did i say he should be ashamed of being of dominican descent. you have no idea what i am. ill tell you this much, im not a "full bred proud american", i became a citizen. maybe thats why it pisses me off more that someone that is (alex rodriguez) would choose not to represent their country that they were born in and try to play for the domincans because they have the best team in the tourney.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? Could you ever put together a valid arguement?
