Meh, i bet the red sox are just showing interest cause the yankees are, and want to maybe drive up the price for him. If The Red sox really do get him, what are they gonna do with Damon? Trade him? Likely not. Unless they do something like Move Damon to left, Manny DH and Ortiz 1B?

I really don't see why the Red Sox would go after Kotsay. Coming from Oakland, he won't be cheap talent wise, and the current center fielder-- Johnny Damon, has been one of the best players on the team so far.

Like Cajun said they can shift Manny, Ortiz, and Damon around, but that seems highly unlikely right now. The Red Sox have much bigger problems than Manny/Millar/Damon, and that's the bullpen!

I don't see any guarantee of Kotsay being a Yankee. They have nothing to offer that Billy Beane would be interested. Their best prospect is in low-A and everyone else is either struggling an assload or is a half a decade away from the major leagues. Even Cano and Wang wouldn't get it done.

um kotsay is quite a contender for the sox as damon has been quoting since last season that at the end of 2005 his contract is up, and he is askin for a long term contract, if sox dont meet his demands, he might either retire or move on to another team. sad i know, but good sox are keepin their eyes open just in case

yup i really don't see how this would make sense, maybe they don't think they can resign damon at the end of the season (but again there is Pierre and Hanley)...but I just think this is just falling into the category of, "If the Yankees want him, we'll at least declare interest."

looks like we have more interest in ted lilly:

The gallery at Rogers Centre, eight rows behind home plate, was impressed with the elevation of Lilly's pitches, his mechanics, his velocity (94 m.p.h) and his results Monday as he worked seven innings in an 11-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Lilly, who recorded 10 strikeouts, walked two and allowed two runs, turned in his second-best start of 2005, not long after his best outing of the year when he allowed four hits in seven scoreless innings as he beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2.

Lilly, 29, has been dealt four times. The pursuers this time are not area scouts.

Bill Lajoie of the Boston Red Sox is GM Theo Epstien's left arm. Lajoie is sporting his 2004 World Series ring and, like everyone else, looking for another.

Ted Lilly? AWESOME. GET HIM THEO! Trade Mueller and Millar for Hillenbrand and Lilly or something

No! Trade Millar, not Mueller.

Mueller to second.

Youk to third.

Payton to LF

Manny to DH

Ortiz to first

Millar, Bellhorn to ANOTHER TEAM.

and just for fun, Embree to the Yankees. Well give him to them free.

Put Youk at second, then! Anything, anything to get Bellhorn off the field. Im sorry, soxie, but he needs to go.

Youkillis can't play 2nd, they tried him there and he was horrible. I'm sorry to tell you but this team's problem isn't scoring runs. Bellhorn is a 9 hole hitter, he does what 9 hole hitters do, he plays very good defense.

That's the worse defensive team I've probably ever seen.

Easy on Embree, he's back at 94 mph.

Yeah, Im sorry. I tend to talk out of my ass a lot. Heh. Seriously though...It was suggested in another thread to DH Manny, put Payton out in the field, and put Ortiz on first. I believe the quote was "itd be worth the sacrifice"

Honestly, though....the Sox could never have a lineup that uses everyone to their full ability. Olerud, Youk, Payton...we couldnt bring them ALL in every game...makes me rather sad.

It's just ridiculous. Bellhorn isn't even the problem since the Sox have no trouble putting up runs and I hate that everyone's so freakin' quick to crucify him even when something is not his fault. The lineup is fine right now.
Posted
It may be 'fine'...but Youk, Olerud, and Payton have proven that they need to be in there more often...maybe they just need to rotate them more often, I dont know. But we really cant let such great hitters and fielders just be traded away.

Wow. Soxie REALLY gets mad about this Bellhorn stuff.

But she has a point. As Bellhorn has been this season, he isn't the problem on this team. Plain and simple. This team can score runs.

Mueller can't play second. He doesn't want to play second, his knees can't handle playing second, and he isn't a second baseman. In an emergency, he can cover that spot... but he is not a solution at second. As much as I like Youk, he's got to suck play the bench role this season until given the full-time job next year.

I've said multiple times I'd like to see more Ortiz at first, Payton in left, Manny at DH type senarios. Although my dislike of Kevin Millar is pretty widely known. I don't think Ortiz would hurt this team playing first regularly. Does anyone remember Mo Vaughn?

I'd love to see the Sox get Ted Lilly, because you can never have too much pitching. That having been said, he's been wicked inconsistent this season, and where would the Sox use him? They've already got 5 starters, with Schilling coming back after the ASB. Do you banish 2 current starters to the bullpen? If so, who? Does Lilly go to the bullpen?

Also, with pitching at a premium, is Theo willing to part with the talent necessary to bring in a guy like Lilly?

I think that the biggest (and best) move the Red Sox will make for a position player has already been made when they signed John Olerud in May. I can't see Kotsay coming here unless it's in part of a deal to get Payton to another team and comes at a very low cost.

Soxie- Bellhorn does a lot of things well. He sees tons of pitches and helps the team get into other teams bullpens, but let's be honest, the strikeouts have got to be a concern. I'm fine with him striking out with nobody on base, but part of your job as a guy hitting in the nine hole is to put the ball into play and move guys into scoring position. Striking out and not forcing the other team to make a play is doing the other team a huge favor.

I do agree that the team is fine for now, and it's probably a good day when you can say that a guy who does as many good things as Bellhorn does is your weakest link. But I would like to see the Sox replace Vasquez with someone more reliable who can play second consistently. That way you can sit Bellhorn a bit more and also have a viable pinch hit option in late game situations when contact is more important than someone who sees a lot of pitches.

^I was kind of trying to say what the last two posts said. I just suck at trying to put it into words.

Im sorry if I offended you, soxie. Its not that I dont like Bellhorn....its just that, well, what he ^ said.
