...there is a good chance Gabe Kapler will return from Japan. In fact, Craig Shipley, assistant to GM Theo Epstein, is in Japan scouting, and one front office executive says he is working on a deal for Kapler's return.

I do not believe anything that Gammons says but if we did resign him we could trade Payton for someone who can pitch instead of Embree.

We definately need to focus on the bullpen when making trades and looking for free agents, but getting Kapler back would be great.

I loved Kapler. He wasn't spectacular, but I have yet to find someone who disliked him. I'd love to see him back.

If I remember correctly Sturtze grabbed Kapler from behind by his throat, damn right they double teamed him. Ortiz didn't land a punch Papa Jack got in his way if he had Ortiz probably would have broken bones.

Kapler leaving Japan; return to Red Sox likely

Outfielder Gabe Kapler is returning from Japan to the United States, most likely to reclaim his old backup role with the Red Sox.

 

Kapler, 29, has been placed on waivers by the Yomiuri Giants. He will clear waivers July 15, after which he will become a free agent with the ability to negotiate with all 30 major league teams.

 

It is expected that Kapler will rejoin the Red Sox, who designated outfielder Jay Payton for assignment Thursday and reportedly will trade Payton to the A's for reliever Chad Bradford.

 

Kapler had signed a one-year contract with the Giants last year but didn't receiver the playing time he expected and was unhappy in Japan.

if Gabe comes back we will get a great back up for all the hard workin guys in the outfield. He will add speed, a good arm and a little pop in the bat to the bench. Also, he is a great club house presence. He will really help out.
