If we lose damon we should sign Pierre! Then bring hanely up and make him our 2nd baseman after we get rid of Bellhorn! Then Get rid of mueller and make youkilis our 3rd Baseman!!

I think Pierre's going to the Yanks, with Damon going somewhere else. So I think what will ultimately happen is Hanley in Centerfield, we'll either sign Bellhorn to a 1 year contract or sign someone else, and then possibly bring up Pedroia in mid season. Kind of like what the Yankees did with Cano this year, and they signed Womack just in case.

I say keep damon, he is a great player, all heart, and does nothing but play hard.

If he doesnt kill himself bashing into walls, he has another 4 or 5 great years ahead.

I dont know how the sox could even entertain losing him.

Damon is walking and we are not signing Pierre. We are not going to give Damon the ammount of years he wants and the Yankees will outbid us for Pierre because one of their biggest problems is the outfield. In the end I believe they will move Hanley to CF get a saftey signing at 2b and call up Pedroia around the All Star break. Clementrulez why in the name of heaven and hell would you want to get rid of Mueller?

I don't see Hanley starting for the Sox next season either. Why rush him? He needs the full season in Pawtucket next year. He hasn't exactly been destroying AA this season either; he's been good, but not great.

I don't know what the solution is. I can't see Damon in another uniform from this point on, to be honest. I don't think he's going to be worth what we're going to give him, but that's never stopped us before.

I agree with Zenny here, Hanley's going to have to show a lot of improvement before he's ready for the show, and that kind of improvement probably won't happen in the rest of 2005. He's still got a 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio at AA, and is hitting just .291. He's probably spending the rest of this season in AA, then next season in AAA. I don't really see him in Boston regularly until 2007 at the earliest.

I'd love to see someone like Pierre in Boston. I cringe every single time Terry says "we're not a fast team" because it's true. An injection of speed and energy would be a welcome addition IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing Damon back in CF next year (at a reasonable price), and with Pedroia probably the second baseman of the future, Hanley could possibly play third? Or when we get there, what about asking Edgar to switch positions? He's got a strong arm and in 2 years will have less range than he has now. If he's such a team guy (as he's advertised), why not make the move to accomidate the team?

Like Zenny, it's hard for me to picture Johnny in another uniform (even though he played for KC and Oakland before coming to Boston) because Terry, the fans, and ownership seem to be in love with him. I really respect Johnny's intensity (even though it borders on stupid sometimes), and would love to see him finish his career here. With his limited arm, why not shift him to left field and try to ship out Ramirez again?

seriously, you asked a question, why didn't you use a question mark?

Also, this is the exact same thread that's started in talk sox with the title: "damon vs pierre vs hanley" or something like that.

Manny's way more important than Damon is. Besides, if we move him to LF, where are we going to find his CF replacement? We're just going to be in the same position all over again.

I would like to take Ryan Church off of the Nationals' hands. They seem committed to not playing him and he seems very committed to just hitting the crap out of the ball whenever he gets a chance to play.

Have you guys forgotten how all this goes down???

Damon has Boras who "wants" 5years and 50+ million dollars. The Red Sox will negotiate him down some. Meanwhile, Piere and any other decent CF will sign by December meaning the Sox will HAVE to pay Damon and Boras the money or be stuck with nothing in CF. That's how the guy makes a living.

Personally, I think Damon gets a Tek type contract. 4/40.

4/40 seems like a decent projection considering that he makes $8.25 mil this season and has been one of the better hitters on the team, I'm just not convinced that the Sox will give him that contract.

One thing to remember is all 6 of our starters are signed through next year, so it's not like we have to go out and get another starter if they stay healthy. Trot, Tek, Manny, Rent are all signed too. The only places to fill will be CF, 3B, 2B and 1B and some bench players. Of all those positions, barring anybody coming back, CF will be the hardest to fill.

I'd like to see Mueller sign a 1 year extension, but that's just me.

Id like to have Mueller signed a couple more years, Get rid of bellhorn though!! 1B i have no f***in clue!! CF is going to be hard though

Wouldn't Church in place of Damon make the team even slower?

To be honest, I'm not at all concerned with speed. It seems like an add-on or luxury that isn't really pivotal to a winning team.

Here's where you and I will have to agree to disagree Zenny. Personally I'd love to see the slow ass guys like Millar, Bellhorn, and Manny Ramirez (yes, Manny Ramirez) jettisoned and have faster guys (and better defenders) brought in.

Like I said, I cringe when Terry openly admits that the Red Sox are slow, because I hate station to station baseball. The Sox won last year, but they were largely riding the pitching staff which got hot at the right time... It's not like the offense blew away the competition.

He has Boras there is no way he will settle for 4/40 that only worked with Tek because he isn't worth as much as Damon and I think Damon wants like 5 years too probably at more than 10 per year I really don't picture him in a Sox uniform next year.

I do not want to see Walker back in a Sox uniform his defense was so unbelieveably bad it's not even funny.
