Zito vs. Clement

I dont have their stats on hand but i know Clement is 4-0 going for a career best 5-0 start.i dont know how to do the picture things either but since its a day game i figured i would start the thread since the game is already on. Manny hit a HR and Damon already extended his hitting streak. Sox are up 4-0 right now on Zito.

Yankees were tied 5-5 after 1 today as well.

Wow, this place is deserted.

Our starters rock. I'm pretty sure you all knew that by now, but I think it bears repeating.

Clement - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R. Nasty.

Foulke - also nasty, but in a different way. Holy cow - I was just about to say that he made things really interesting but got the job done, and then he gives up a homer to give the A's the lead. That is totally ridiculous. 0.2 IP, 3 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 4 R. GRRRRRR!!!!

Millar gets another chance to be the 9th inning hero.

If the Sox do come back, Foulke gets the win. That's just wrong, and it shows just how useful W-L records are for pitchers.

Ortiz must be thinking, "Hey, I'm supposed to be the one hitting the walk-off dongs, not just the little placeholder at first base." Seriously, though, I'm thrilled that we won the last two games, but when you're down one run in the ninth and Ortiz walks, as has happened the last two days, don't you put in a pinch runner? I mean, obviously it didn't matter in these cases since Ortiz can trot around the bases as well as anyone, but wouldn't you rather have Vazquez scoring from first on a double than Ortiz lumbering to third?

All of this is rather nit-picky, though, eh? Nice work, Tek. And I'm sorry, Dotel, but we are absolutely your daddy.

Foulke gets the win :( .

I demand they credit Clement the win.

Totally. Even Myers or Timlin would be fairer. But like I (ahem) predicted (OK, I didn't predict it, just brought up the possibility), this is the sort of situation that shows just how meaningful a pitcher's record is. Heck, Randy Johnson was arguably the best pitcher in the NL last year, but he doesn't win the Cy Young because of his teammates' inability to hit the ball. What does that have to do with Johnson's pitching? Nuffin.

Clement and Arroyo both deserved wins, but I think they're both the kind of guys that don't really care a whole lot about that (well, I don't know anything about Clement, but Arroyo is a team guy). The people who are important (namely, the Red Sox and their fans) know which pitchers 'won' the last two games.

They need to stop having these stupid mid-day games. It seems like we've had a disproportionate amount of them this year, and I'm really, really, REALLY sick of them. Save them for weekends for the love of god.

At least I'll have the option of watching them. If the game starts at 1 pm who the hell can watch that? They need to realize that people need to watch baseball to enjoy it and earn them money. Do away with afternoon weekday games and 10 pm west coast starts. Cry me a river if west coasters have to deal with a 6 pm start so us fans over here (where baseball is most popular) can watch it at a reasonable hour.

My experience with this one was pretty interesting. Had a f***ing 4 hour driving lesson, fortunately the instructor had the game on in the car. Almost swerved off the road when Byrnes hit the homer.

This is gayyyyyy. I had baseball practice after school at friggan 2:30 till 4:30 and missed the whole game. What is this?

I feel your pain...I've seen probably all but 5 or 6 Sox games, and two of them happened to come today and yesterday. I blame the people who schedule day games (last night I was just busy and couldn't see it...today obviously I was at school)

I watched "Red Sox in 2", but yes, I hate the goddamn late starts. 4pm over on the west isn't a bad start time, so we can see the game at the normal of 7pm. Ugh. Or even 8pm over here and 5 over there. I hate timezones.
