how come now 3 of our boys: foulke, mantiei, and now bellhorn after going thru bad first halfs of the season, theyre all of sudden out with possible injuries, kinda makes ya think. ok now they just gotta give embree a fake injury

In that 9th inning with the bases loaded, Bellhorn would've just struck out. Or maybe gotten a flyout. Cora however grounds into the double play. Awesome.

Cora was safe though... by at least half a step. Whatever, those umps sucked anyways.

 

But am I the only one who feels a little bad for soxie? She is like, the only one who defends Bellhorn, and just because she likes him you call her out? Pretty funny if you ask me. But yeah, you are right, I would take Bellhorn over Cora 10 out of 10 times.

If horny would have been in last night he would have just struck out, instead of ground into a DP, so maybe he should have been out there.

 

I really don't think that bellhorn is a liability at 2nd base. I think it has more to do with, we as a Red Sox Nation, trying to find something else to panick about. 2nd base is not a position that I am worried about going into the playoffs. Most teams don't have much run production at 2nd base, and as long as his defense is still good, then I'm fine with him being on the field. With 6E and a .985 FPCT, I'm very pleased with bellhorn at 2nd. Look did we really expect this guy to come out hit 30HRs or hit for average?

The fact is that he was never supposed to be a starter originally. Due to injuries last year, he became one. He stepped up. He's not gonna hit .300 because he never has and he has never been expected to. He's fine on defense.

I know Cora was safe. But of course the umps would call him out. They hate us. But in any case, Bellhorn wasn't taken out because of lack of performance, but because he's hurt, so besides the point.

 

Tito is dumb, he should've pinch hit Olerud for Cora. Worry about going into extra innings later. Try and win the game.

I say the sox trade Bellhorn for some bullpen help and they bring up Hanley Ramirez to play second!...Bellhorn sucks!!

bringing a guy up from double A is very very risky I keep saying that. Hanley needs to have some experience in triple A before heading off to the majors. guys he plays with and against are all just out of high school and college. then boom it will be 10+ year veteran all-stars. Its limited chance at best. And dude I dont think anyone would bite for bellhorn, even his old team, the rockies, or the royals

I agree. I don't think a team looking to repeate as World Champions needs to take a risk like bringing up someone from AA. Best case senerio, you get about as much production as your getting out of Bellhorn, without the playoff experience. Worse case, you stunt Hanley's growth, and ruin him. I don't think its a risk worth taking right now, but I do expect to see him and Pedoria in the Majors next year.

 

Bellhorn has about as much trade value as a bat bag.

maybe pedroia soon than later, sox are contemplating putting bellhorn on the 15 day DL with a sprained right thumb. texas rangers are shopping alfonso soriano around the majors since he is in last season, could theo be sending out scouts to watch him play, I wonder...

How about we trade for Alfonso Soriano?...the rumor is that the Texas Rangers are willing to trade him since his contract is up at the end of the year.

not sure, he would be a big boost to our offense no doubt but we would have to give up a big prospect most likely for him. when sox were trying to a-rod, they actually offered Manny to the Rangers. thank god that deal didnt go through.

If Bellhorn goes on the DL he can't be traded or released.

I dont think theres any chance The Sox get Soriono. Unless, we give Texas some pitching. We don't really have any SP we can afford to get rid of, and with Abe already gone, I dont expect Theo to move another SP prospect.

i hate to say it but this deal looks bleak. my hopes are still high but nobody can find an inside red sox source that says we have a shot. all i gather is we are up there with baltimore but they are the leading contenders.

yea and baltimore is always willing it seems to give up number of their good players in return they get one player, hasnt really worked for them in the past:

Actually, I think if Bellhorn hadn't been hurt and Cora wasn't already in the game, Olerud would have batted for Bellhorn at that point. Tito couldn't do it though because if we went into extra innings he'd have no one to play 2B.

 

And on another point, I to sympathize with Soxie. She's loyal through thick and thin to Bellhorn and let's face it, this season has been mostly thin. Personally, I like Bellhorn on our team, even as a starter, but I think we need to do a better job of compensating for his weaknesses in key situations. Like last night if he hadn't been out of the game I would have pulled him for Olerud because even if Olerud hit the same ground ball that Cora hit, it still forced the Yankees to make two perfect throws to execute the double play (something that the Yankees had already failed to do once that inning. If you don't make contact, you basically give the other team an out without working for it.

 

And allow me to officially say "No way" to Soriano. I understand he has a lot of pop in the bat, but he swings at every single pitch (exactly opposite of the team philosophy) and good pitchers know the holes in his swings. I think that a big reason why the Yanks got rid of him was because of this. Factor in outrageous cost and I think that's a move you don't want to make.

Francona has said in the past that he'd use Youkilis at 2B. It will be interesting to see if he becomes the every day second baseman ahead of Cora. You sacrifice defensively, but Youkilis does a lot more offensively to help the team win than Cora can.

thats my boy Mueller , he came up to Tito after last nights game and told him hed be willing to handle 2nd base until bellhorn comes back. But as it is so far, Tito wants Cora to get in a groove and hit some more.

Well we will see if Mueller's knees "break down" at 2nd, and if he's physically incapable of playing it as soxie suggests, over the next 2 weeks. Cora is playing tonight though.
