Curt is competitive pitcher. He is now one of the best. I love him as pitcher.

I have problem with him for the followings:

1-I did not appreciate his support for George W. in the election. At least he could have kept it to himself rather than going public with it.

2-I did not appreciate his support for the Steelers against Patriots in the AFC championship game.

3-I never liked his comments about former teammate (like Pedro, or Nomar...etc). Many of his ex-teammate hated him. It was reported that the only reason Randy Johnson did not want to come to Boston was Curt’s presence. Instead he is gone to the Yankees!

4-I do not like his non-sense talks that he wins games because of Christ! We are in the 21st century! We got to be more scientific. You do not win games because of Christ; you win because of your preparations/skills and your teammate as opposed to your opponent’s preparations. Life would be a lot simpler if we do not have to strive, we just put our faith in Christ, and miracles happen! Reality is not like that, and proof is that Curt will loose some of his future games, even though he has his faith in Christ. I do not have problem with Christ or any religion, my problem is with the stupid interpretations of their followers!

I know some of Curt’s cronies out there might be offended, but hey I did not make up things. I am very scientific in my remarks.

By the way he is 38 years old, I am not sure he got that many bullets left in him. I predict his wins will average in the mid-upper teens in the next couple years. Look at Randy Johnson; he had only 15 wins last season. He was 41 years old, so Curt is getting there. I guess you could say that Arizona’s offense suck, but Randy did not play well in the all-star game!

I like Curt as pitcher, but I dislike his personality, and do not want to have him as friend.

A couple of things regarding your posts -

Yes, you CAN say that Arizona's offense sucked. Look at his numbers. Randy probably should have had about 25 wins. All-Star Game counts for nothing. So Randy's old, but he hasn't lost anything...other than all the cartilage in his knee.

I like a standout guy, I think that Schilling is just that guy.

What Curt does with his free time, and who or what he supports are of no interest to me. He nearly singlehandedly won the team the world series. He's free to root for the yankees for all I care, so long as he beats them when he pitches.

To not like or judge a player based on their politics is stupid.

I appreciated it. He didn't flip on his favorite team because he's now employed by the Sox.

He's never said anything but nice word towards Pedro and RJ. Except for A-Rod, Schill's been great towards everyone.

Who can knock a guy for believing in a God?

Was he upset when you told him this?

So you don't like Curt because he tells everyone his opinion?

1-Is Curt's Opinion - And you didn't care if any celeb went public saying they were going to vote for Kerry, right?

2-Is Curt's Opinion - Tom Brady is a Yankee fan, does that make him a bad player? Playing in NE, but rooting for the Yanks?

3-Is Curt's Opinion - He is just saying how he felt about them. What is wrong with that?

4-Is Curt's Opinion - Who cares if he is religious? I'm not religious, but it doesn’t bother me.

Why do you have a problem with Curt expressing himself? Just because you didn't vote for Bush, root for the Steelers, make comments about former sox players, and aren’t religious, does that mean Curt can't do any of those things?

Who is Curt schilling?

-He has been pitching since 88 (16 years).

-He had won more than 17 games per one-year ONLY 3 times (including last year).

-When he was in Arizona, his “pitching teammates” hated his gut. Newspapers over there used to report rumors how Randy won’t even speak to him for weeks at time. Why? Well, his remarks about other teammates, his insatiable appetite for getting all the attention to himself. He also thinks he is the best pitcher out there!

In the Arizona club house, he was known as the “back stabbing sun of a (gun)” according to rumors in Arizona newspapers!

He made remarks about Pedro being in his own world in the club house, and Pedro was mad at him and said to the media” don’t listen to Curt, he knows nothing about me. Go ask Varitek or others who knew me for many years…”

He made remarks about Nomar that no one felt free to say what he wants to say when Nomar was around!

His remarks about A-Rod were uncalled for! A-Rod answered back by saying that when Curt lost game 1 of ALCS he shut up, but ever since he had won game 4 he just can’t shut up!

My question is why did he make these non-sense remarks, and what was his point?

Someone compared him to Tom Brady! That was very unfair to Tom. Tom is a gentleman and true sportsman. He respects his teammates, and even his opponents. Tom will never make remarks about other players even his opponents. It is matter of personality. I like Tom’s personality; I dislike Curt’s personality!

Finally, when Curt expresses his opinion (Bush, Steelers, Pedro, Nomar, Randy, A-Rod…etc), he does it in such an obnoxious way to his fan. This is very un-sportsman like conduct to his fan. When most of New Englanders were rooting for Patriots, why did he show up on TV wearing Steelers jersey? Is not this an obnoxious disrespect to the fan!

It was not my intention to piss off people. I am Red Sox fan and will root for Curt (I did that last year). I just do not like his personality. Most of you have had very little exposure to him (one year with 21 wins and helped Sox to win world series), but soon you will see his ugly side. Your emotionally biased opinions will change very quickly.

CURT IS NO TOM BRADY!!!

joe,

Oh, so now you think he is obnoxious, and before you didn't like him just because he expresses his opinion. And I compared him to Tom, because you said you were mad Curt was a Steeler fan, and Tom is a Yankee fan, so in that respect, he IS like Tom. Read before you judge.

I think Curt has a great personality, he just says what he feels the truth is. He doesn't try to be politically correct, or try hard not to offend someone. Are you seriously offended he wears a Steelers jersey? He plays for us, that doesn't mean he has to be us, or like the teams that we do. If you played for a baseball team in California, and they were playing the Pats in the playoffs, would you be rooting for the Pats, or the home team that your fans would root for?

Also, what about all the good things Curt does in his free time. What about "Curt's pitch for ALS"? "The SHADE Foundation"? Curt is a great person in general, someone i would want to play on my team. Someone that i would want to be my friend.

I guess you can have your opinion, we won't stop you, but you can't stop Curt from expressing his opinion.

Expressing your opinion is one thing, expressing your opinion 24/7 is something else.

First of all, it's not as much as you guys claim to be. Second what is so bad about expressing opinions. We do it on these boards all the time, I honestly don't see the difference.

I know, I'm saying thats fine. He does it every chance he gets. Everywhere you look, there's his face. It's just too much. There's a fine line between expressing your opinion, and forcing your opinion.

The thing I love about schilling is that it appears he is just regular guy, like one of us....if they ask him a question he answers it with an opinion and with honesty. He just doesnt fire off one of the ridiculous cliches, "I came to play", "evrey game is important"...blah, blah..."they cant take that away form me"...which is the one I hate the most...because I never understand who would do the taking..

I disagree with him on a lot of stuff but I give him credit for being honest and accessible, plus while he 's a redsox as I have said before I really dont give a s*** what his opinion is as long as he does well on the field. We dont need him to be smart we need him to pitch for crying out loud.

Hey, he helped us win the championship and now no one can take that away from us.

I dont think this has anything to do with curt schilling but this isnt the best thread around anyway, as others have pointed out but I wanted to mention that the other day I was driving along and not paying much attention and I swerved and almost hit a biker...As I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the guy getting up off the grass and dusting himself off, I was thrilled to see it was Tim McCarver...Then a day or two later I was buzzing downt the street and a biker on the side stopped and mouthed the words--"slow down" as I went by him I noticed it was Tim again and I shot him the bird..He flew off the handle and not only gave me the finger back and began screaming some words and phrases at me, that seemed to include the word f***, a lot!!

I was beaming with pride...the third time's a charm so now I'm looking for him while I drive around.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! who the hell is a Yankee fan to be talking about STEROIDS of all things if you want to build a solid arguement for the New York Yankees bringing up steroids of all things should not be one of you building blocks. You have 2 of the main subjects in the BALCO investigation on your team and you are bringing up steroids and the Red Sox. If you notice the Red Sox last year ahd no major allegations of steroid use brought up against any of their players except for maybe Nomar who as we all know got traded so it don't really matter. I see Yankee fans accusing Ortiz because he's so big HELLO he's been a fatty since he broke into the bigs. There as of right now is no solid proof or even allegations that any Red Sox players are on the juice, but that statement was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. No Yankee fan should be talking about any other team beingjuiced up because the corner stone of last years team (Sheff) was and probably still is on the juice.

great pitcher, not a HOF pitcher imo but still great.

do i like schilling the person? not particularly.

i didnt like the outspoken support for george w. particularly b/c it came right after they won the WS i believe (or was it the ALCS?) btw, i dont particularly care for celebrities spouting their political opinions--whether they're liberals or conservatives. then again...i could have probably ended that previous sentence at the word celebrities, go figure :dunno:

i get tired of hearing from curt schilling every time i turn around. STFU already...in fact, all of you players just STFU...all ur doing is playing into the media's crap and thats sickening.

that said, i dont have a problem with curt being as outspoken as possible about his charity work with ALS. i think it's a noble cause and while some ppl (some yankee fans i've encountered) see his talking about his charity work as a "look at me, look at what a good person i am" i see it as his using his fame to try to get other people to support this, which i think is fine (yes what that means is i have a problem with celebrities using their status to put forth their political ideas but not their charity work)

oh, joe with a comma at the end -

the joy of being a fan is being able to realize that baseball players are HUMAN and they are allowed to state their preference for president out loud - it's a person's right as an American. And as much as fans (well, you mainly) want to create a new set of rules for behavior for professional athletes, the fact is that, last time I checked, the man helped the Sox win their first World Series in 86 years - I don't care if he voted for Ross Perot years ago and believes in doing the funky chicken before each pitch - he is an exceptional baseball player and as a fan our liking should only have to go as far as that. Oh - and while I'm still awake I might as well add that comparing Tom Brady and Curt Shilling - yes I know they are both athletes - is like comparing apples and oranges. Maybe Tom Brady will be your friend.
