I like it. Sounds like this guy has huge potential (25 yrs old), and it probably won't cost the Sox jack. He's a LHP, and a starter. Theo is definitely good at what, at times, seem to be minor pick-ups. Mark my words, this guy will help the Sox next season.

Wow, what an amazing pickup. I cannot believe the Guardians just let him go for nothing. This could potentially change the whole complexion of the 2005 or 2006 rotation, similar to what Bronson Arroyo did. However, I believe Traber is even better than Arroyo can be. I love Theo Epstein.

Zenny,

Please exuse my ignorance, but Traber BETTER than Arroyo? Wow. He's had pretty decent minor league numbers, but Cleveland was willing to let him go for nothing...

I hope you're right.

The reason he was released is becasue he recently underwent Tommy John surgery. It's anyone's guess as to whether he can perform again at his previous level. But I think it's worth the $20,000 waiver fee to give him a shot.

I live in the Cleveland area and I am a Red Sox fan. My brother in law played colllege ball at Loyola Marymount with Billy Traber. Before the surgery, he was really good.

This could be a steal because he's a lefty (I always thought the Sox would only win the WS with a lefty SP-ok I was wrong there).

Low risk, but high reward with this guy...

Go Theo.

Traber is definitely a good pick up (especially a waiver pick up). Picked in the 1st round by the Mets a few years back and sent to Cleveland in the Alomar deal. He's a lefty too.

I have all trust in The I jsut hope he isn't a Heradia/Nitcowski guy like the Yankees got jsut because they are lefties.

Not at all. He is a former top prospect who is on the mend from shoulder surgery. This was a no risk/high reward deal. He'd be better than Heredia and Nitkowski while hurt, nevermind healthy. I love this pickup.

I'd love to have Traber, don't get me wrong. Rarely to TJ surgeries fail, and tehre's no reason to think this one will either. The guy's only 25, so if he does recover fully, the Sox might have him for a long time.
