why is everyone hating on bora$, in the end he's just doing his job. honestly, i don't like what the guy is doing BUT if gm's didn't give in to him he wouldn't have that kind of power. if NO one in the league will sign tek for 5 years don't you think he'll have to lower his contract.. what's he going to do? play in japan for nothing?

in the end it's the players who are greedy, the agent is paid to get the player the most amount of money possible.

when there is a salary cap issue do you see the agents striking? no, it's the players.

john

ahhchon and sarasoxfan are right. This isn't all Boras' fault. He's just doing his job, and the players want to get the biggest contract possible to feed their egos.

Could Varitek have been influenced by Boras? Absolutely. But he's a 32 year old man, he can make his own decisions. If he decides for top dollar over loyalty to the Sox, I will be sad to see him go, but happy that the Sox didn't cave in.

The bottom line here is that NO CATCHER in baseball (not even Pudge) will be guaranteed $10 mil at age 37. Guys who come close (Charles Johnson, Piazza), have their teams wishing they didn't sign those contracts.

Theo + Trio aren't going to make the MISTAKE of giving Tek a no-trade clause OR giving him 5 years.

If he walks away from 3 years 30 million (yes, I understand that's MORE than the current offer), the Sox should look in another direction.

true, but I love tek, and its easier to balme Boras-if you must know the truth.

I am hoping this all grandstanding and little negotiating ploys at work here.

Tek in pinstripes is just too hard to imagine.

He'd have to be in the same locker room as that homo A-Rod-less and that would be worth passing up a million or two here or there-kust to avoid.

i think tek signing with the yankees would be amazing. i get to beat down on all the people here who think tek is the most loyal/greatest player on the damn sox team. yeah, he's great, but he's not this so called leader of the sox, like i have stated before, this is baseball. there are no leaders..

not that i would want to see him sign with the yankees, but at 5 years 50 mill, i would love to see the yankees more crippled than they allready are. even if we sarcrifice tek, which we arne't really since he's asking for such an outrageous offer.

if we make the deal 30 mill. for 3 years, tek could still be good when hes 35.

Also, does anyone know what other catcher we could get if we dont get tek?

Do you think it's actually POSSIBLE to cripple the Yankees? I mean this is a team whose payroll has risen every year. They STILL spend the big bucks despite all the efforts to even the playing field.

Their payroll is on the verge of going over $200 million. There doesn't seem to be a limit at all.

My point here is: Would the Yankees be "crippled" by signing Tek? I don't think so.

Look at this

Peter Gammons on ESPN radio, the Sox seemed to have moved on from pursuing Jason Varitek because of the Boras demands.

Damn Boras :(

i've heard talks about posada to oakland and varitek to ny

do u think he'd do what pettite did and turn down the most money to not betray his old team?

b.t.w i hope boras rots in hell with stienbrenner

I am afraid if this unravels--as much as I cant stand boras---the villian is Varitek..

well, not the villian, but he can say work it with the sox...and amazingly it would.

f*** these guys are greedy--

I am getting pissed at pedro too.that offer was way too high and still he has to shop himself around.

All this f***ing "latino" pride s***...f*** him...scrawny f*** (I dont mean that but it felt good) He is either whining to the media about all the respect he deserves, he says he wants to stay, he says this he says that-

Meanwhile the redsox have shown their respect by offering him a great contract--equal to schilling..come on Pedro---show the team and the fans some of your famous respect and sign the f***ing contract!

Vartiek probably will take control of the negotiations, I think Boras is overrating the whole public outcry he thinks he'll get if we don't sign Vartiek. He must think all fans are like yankeehater. It seems the public overwhelmingly sides with Epstein

ive heard somethin involving posada goin to arizona with someone for RJ...anyone else heard this?

I've heard this rumor also. The problem with it is that Arizona wants youth and is probably not interested in paying any high salaries.

2 years 25 mill is NOT way too high for pedro.... i think it's just right.

If Johnson goes anywhere it will be the White Sox or Cardinals, their deals are better then the Yankees any how.

I've heard the White Sox are offering Paul Konerko for RJ.

I've also heard the Marlins/Angels/Dbacks may do a 3-way where RJ goes to Anaheim, Jose Guillen goes to Florida and prospects go to Arizona.

Anyone know what the Cards are offering?

Just received this info from rotoworld.com.

The News

While a $65 million figure is being reported, a source with direct knowledge of the talks told the Boston Globe that Jason Varitek is requesting a five-year, $55 million contract with a no-trade clause.

Our Take

The Red Sox have gone to three years and $27 million with an option for a fourth year. That seems pretty generous to us. If Varitek, a one-time All-Star who turns 33 in April, really thinks he's worth more than that, the Red Sox should set about proving they can win without him.

Varitek wants $11 million? Dang. $9 million plus a option for a 4th year is a great deal.

Boras is pricing Tek out of the market. Time to say goodbye to Tek, though it hurts....

Posted

The sad thing is that he might get that elsewhere. Up until the past couple days, I'd been hearing 5 years $50 mil, but now it seems to be raised to 5 years $55 mil or even $65 mil for 5 years (JEEEZ)

Boras apparently says he's got a 5 year deal on the table already. I say Sox call his bluff and tell him 3 years, $27 mill take it or leave it. At $10 mil, the Sox can sign a cheaper option and get the offense elsewhere.

boras might be bluffing but it's HIS JOB. hate on tek, not the guy he hired to do his dirty work.

john

i agree with you. boras is one of the best agents in baseball. he usually get more money than the player deserves. hes just doing his job and doing it well
