That K-Rod thing is up in the air because this is the last year in his contract. The Angels have the money to take care of him in the end so I don't see him leaving. He is the anchor to there pitching.

Here is a name.....Johan Santana

The Red Sox first moves should be to keep the chemistry with the skill position players. Jason Varitek is the most important player to keep. Orlando Cabrera can really only be upgraded by signing Edgar Renteria but he will be much more expensive. What about moving Cabrera to 2B and Renteria at SS?

Santana is going into the last year of his contract in 2005 because the Twins did not give him an extension at the beginning of the year. The Twins do not have the money to take care of him. I think the Red Sox should pursue him and let Pedro go. I would love to keep Pedro but the 24 year old Cy Young candidate would scare the Boss to death.

Schilling and Santana....rumors are that Pavano would be most interested in coming to Boston where he was drafted.

I say keep the chemistry and re-sign the skill position players. Continue to add pitching. Get more help in the bullpen and make the top three starters ace caliber. Thats where our money should go. Not toward Beltre and necessarily Renteria. I love Carlos Beltran but we have no place to put him and you could get Soriano for less which would help the batting just as much. We have a spot at 2B and Soriano is a 30/30 player.

....this is all for later though....right now....GAME 1 OF THE WORLD SERIES AND I WILL BE THERE NEXT TO FIRST BASE

something called arbitration if you've never heard of it. K-Rod won't get a ten million dollar contract, the Angels will just offer him arbitration. Santana has 2 years of arbitration left.

i f***ing hate it when sox fans act like yankee fans. we don't need to buy out the god damn free agent market to be contenders. how about them a's, being consistent every year without a massive payroll, how about the twins, how about those marlins who won it all just last year?

i'll post my offseason/free agent ideas after the series is over.

Well I won't lie....it was fun but talk about a sloppy game. Manny needs to get his head out of his ass.

Hate it when Red Sox fans act like Yankee fans. I got news for you.....there isn't a TON of difference. On top of that I'm saying the top priority is to keep the players we have. Signing Varitek, Cabrera, Mueller, Williamson, etc. My opinion was that Pedro and D-Lowe are gonna want more money than they are worth. They are going to have to be replaced and that is where Epstein will take the most time to make the rotation even better. I guarantee he won't look for someone to just "fill in" for the two.

No more posts here unless you have something other than criticism. I started this to see brain storming ideas on what direction the Sox should go. Not everything will work obviously, I'm not the GM of the Sox but its fun to talk about.

there is a difference, after this post season it's going to be a 80 million dollar difference.

our focus should be pitching, period. pitching wins championships, not big bats up and down the lineup.

I completely agree. As long as you have top pitching you are always competitive. The question would be where do we get it.

I think Pedro is not worth the money he will want since he can only last 6 innings. D-Lowe has looked great in the post season but lets not forget what a flake he is. There are some good free agents out there but nothing that knocks your socks off. Pavano is my favorite off the list.

You think its possible that Schilling retires if the Sox win the World Series?

As much as i would hate that....what an amazing way to go...leave as a baseball god and one of the greatest stories of all time.

I don't want Alfonso Soriano and his .324 OBP for the rediculous amount of money he's going to make in arbitration or the ludicrous number of prospects it would cost to trade for him, should he not be non-tendered.

It's safe to talk about this now that we begin the offseason trying to defend our WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

I say:

Resign Varitek. It was obvious that his leadership was instrumental in this win. What he did for Lowe in game 4 of the World Series to get him back on track was CRUCIAL.

Try Very hard to resign Lowe and Martinez. OK, Lowe's earned the chance to come back, hasn't he? Martinez is still one of the best pitchers out there.

Sign Pavano, move Wake to the bullpen. Pavano's said he wants to come back, he's entering the prime of his career. Wakefield's rubber arm would serve this team well if he could pitch more than just every 5th day.

Resign Williamson (if healthy). This guy was NASTY when he was healthy. What a compliment to Foulke he'd be in 2005.

Resign Cabrera. The amount of energy he brings to this team was a big boost. He's got a great glove, good bat, and he plays the game hard.

Work with Bellhorn. If this guy could cut down on his strikeouts, he'd be a FORCE.

Who cares about Beltran, Delgado, or any of those other big money FAs? Proof is everywhere that to win baseball championships you need a TEAM. The Yankees who were so dominant were a great TEAM. Don't break up this chemistry by bringing in other high priced free agents.

That's my opinion. I really hope this team doesn't fall apart with so many guys who COULD be playing elsewhere next year....

pedro game 3 world series:

7 IP

3H

ZERO ER

6 K's

2BB

so much for pedro only lasting 6 innings :-/. don't doubt the man. unless pedro wants more than 14 mill a year he's a MUST sign. lowe is a boston boy, but seriously, if he didn't take 2 years 27 mill i don't know what he'll take.. he won't be offered that again, anymore than 6-7 mill a year for lowe is too much.

Without question this team showed up to play in the world series.

They had a tremendous postseason and obviously I would like to see them come back. However, other pitchers can come in to Boston and have the same success. The defense was up and down but Varitek can take a lot of credit for the great pitching performances. Again its about the money with them in the end.

"They understand the business side of baseball."

I do agree with moving Wake to the bullpen. I would also look for Arroyo to really break out this next year. Remember this was his first year being a full time starter. He really started getting it half way through the year so I think he will be fantastic in 2005.

I also agree with the Williamson and Foulke combination. Is there a good lefty out there to bring in?

ok, great series great year in general. Thsi is wat we should do: Keep Bellhorn, but on the bench. Then move Bill Mueller over to 2nd base ( he can handle it ). Now 3rd base is an option for the red sox. Either they go young, and put Youkilis there or go younger with Adrian Beltre and trade Youkilis for a young pitcher. Maybe packaged for a Zito, or hey, if Corey Koskie leaves Minny, package Youkilis and some prospects for Johan Santana. Then you can re-sign Cabrera to a two or three year deal, depending on how far Ramirez is away or how long Bill Mueller plans to continue to play ball. Keep Millar at 1st. Keep the outfield and DH the same, obviously. We don't need Beltran, he'll stay with Houston. Now with pitching: Re-sign Pedro, give him wat he wants, he still has a ton left in the tank. Try to re-sign Lowe, if you cant, go to Carl Pavano. If you get PAvano, put Bronson 4th in the rotation. Try to work out a deal for Zito/Santana/another young pitcher for Youkilis. Keep Wakefield in the rotation also. Now to the bullpen: Get a few set-up men, hope that SWilly will be healthy. Keep Timlin, Embree, Myers, Lescanik. Try for maybe Armando Benitez, he'd b good in front of Foulke. And then maybe try for Guillermo Mota, if he is availabe, i doubt it though. Dont know who u give up for him though.
