This would be the way to destroy the curse.

You were down 3-0. The team looked dead. Christ wasn't hitting, the pitching wasn't what it should be, and the heart and soul of Red Sox Nation was bleeding at the thought of being swept by the dreaded New York Yankees in a series most thought the Sox would win. The dopes at FOX hyped the Yankees taking the first three. I couldn't count how many times I heard "no team has ever come back from 3-0 down." It really looked over.

Then came David Ortiz.

He came through in the series past, and he kept the Sox hopes alive last night with a two-run shot in the bottom of the 12th. He really is making a case for MVP.

Mr. Ortiz lit the fuse. The Sox have come back to life.

Now what? You have Pedro going tonight, with Schilling looming in the background as a possible Game 6 starter. Mussina is due for a bad start. The Sox can take advantage of that with the ignited offense. Petey has a chance to tell the world that he can be the Pedro of 1999, and that he can dominate the Yankees. He does that, and we have a Game 6.

Take it a game at a time, and remember. You destroy history best by making some yourself. :D

There is no curse. The Red Sox have just been an incredibly unlucky and a team without the possibilitly of coming up in the clutch. In 1946 Johnny Pesky held the ball as the eventual winning run in game 7 of the world series. In 1967 Bob Gibson shut the Red Sox down in game 7 of the world series. In 1975 it looked like the Red Sox year. Carlton Fisk comes through in the clutch. But the Red Sox blow a lead in the 7th game and lose the world series. In 1986 the Red Sox have two outs and no one on in the last inning and blow it. Then 2003....... enough said. They are not cursed they just don't come through in the clutch.

"They are not cursed they just don't come through in the clutch". Hold on a second, isn't winning two nights in a row coming through in the clutch. No you are probably right, I mean I am only a Red Sox fan, and all my thoughts, actions, and opinions are brought about by decades of failure clouding my already fragile psyche. They aren't clutch, the Yankee's will win, and history will never lie. Dammit, I just wish you Yankee's fans weren't so damn superior, having a winning team just makes you better statisticians and better fans. THEY DON'T COME THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT! Also make sure you tell David Ortiz that, I think he forgot that all of the Baseball wisdom lies in NYC. O, also tell Rivera, he seems to think he isn't the worshipped deity anymore. Thank you and go sox!!! It might be 3-2, but in terms of clutch its your MFY that are having problems with the overtime. Also, just out of curiosity, and I don't mean this to actually be an insult. What do you think of the Sheffield comments about the Sox, I mean he is a good player, but that was just a cheap shot that had absolutely no validity, the man emberassed New York with that one, and I am just wondering how the Yank's fans are taking it.

2 things:

What do you call Jeter's 3 run double against Pedro? That was the very definition of CLUTCH.

Granted, he failed in a few other opportunities, but let's not go so far as to say the Yankees aren't clutch. The Red Sox and Yankees played 2 INCREDIBLE games, and thankfully the Red Sox came out on top. BUT let's not forget who still leads this series.

With all do respect to the Red Sox team, they DID NOT come back on Rivera last night. He came in with a runner on third, and the Red Sox got a sac fly (just a harmless out if he'd come in with nobody on) to tie that game. They did their damage against Tom Gordon, who's been up and down this post-season (more down than up).

David Ortiz has been beyond words for the Red Sox for the last 2 nights, but all it takes is an 0-4 night from him and the Sox could be in trouble. Nobody else on this team has been hitting well in key situations with consistency.

Do I believe the Red Sox are capable of making history, and coming back and winning this series? OF COURSE. I believed it when we were down 0-2, and 0-3. Do I believe the Yankees are going to lay down and let us take it? HELL NO. I expect a hard-fought battle back in New York, and they will have the distinct advantage of playing in Yankee Stadium behind rabid, supportive fans. Also, as we Red Sox fans have realized the past two nights-- They get the last at bat, the value of which CAN NOT BE UNDERSTATED.

I urge Red Sox fans to take the last two wins for what they were: Incredible baseball games with good outcomes, but not to get overconfident. We still need to win 2 games in Yankee Stadium against a very good Yankee team.

first: sheffs comments are stupid all ballplayers should keep theor mouths shut and the same goes for the red sox

second: clutch is not in middle of the series games, clutch is when you have a chance to close out a series

third: the red sox are a better team then the yanks, i'm not a stupid yankee fan and if you go pitcher for pitcher they are better and pitching is the name of the game

fourth: the red sox did a good job with these two wins but it means nothing if they don't win this series

fifth: if the yanks blow a 3-0 lead i only have 1 thing to say "lets go new york (football) giants"

sixth: you can't kill mariano in game 5 because he really didn't have a chance

seventh: joe torre has made some decisions this series that have been so crazy

hey, i like him . anyway, you said clutch was only when u have a chance to close out a series. i believe jeter came through clutch in game 5 with that hit that scored 3. the yankees went ahead, and had a chance to close out the series.

i agree with you on everything else. i think the yankees/redsox teams are more even than one better than the other, but i see your side of it.

Clutch is overrated, and trying to define clutch like that is just naive.
