We can't put Ortiz at DH, because if you move the player out of the DH spot then you lose the DH for the game.

What is this you say?

If Ortiz was to DH he would have to be substituted in for Manny. If we were to move Manny to another position the DH would then become the pitcher's spot in the lineup.

Yeah, I was just reading that. All the math is mumbo jumbo though, lets just get a win. And god help me, until the Yankees clinch the division the Sox better go all out. I mean it's extremely remote that the sox will catch them, but there's always "that chance"

Ortiz and Mueller, as well as Nixon are sitting just to rest them up a bit. Oritz has had shoulder problems, and Mueller/Nixon have obviously been injured during the season. It's also a way to see who's going to be joining the roster in the post season.

Now actually reading that article i get it. My bad.

I had to read that twice but it makes sense...

WEEI says Manny's HR went 458 feet.

wait back to the clinching...whats the scenario? we win we clinch? or we win and anaheim loses? or what?!?!

We win, we clinch, over Anaheim (most likely) or Oakland (highly unlikely). We lose and Anaheim loses, we tie for playoff spot.

What a break getting Kazmir tossed...Good to see the modest celebration.

Time to rest...and get the rotation in order.

At least they saved the celebration for the locker room. Two things to note.

1) Millar is an alcoholic. I wouldn't recommend starting him tomorrow because he'll probably be hung over.

2) Loved Pedro's comments, although it does seem he might be upset if he doesn't start in game 1. "I want that ring"- that's our Petey

I'm thinkin... Sox can't beat a no-name pitcher. I'm also thinkin... they won't have to in the playoffs. THank God!

Kazmir is not a no name pitcher. He is one of the best pitcing prospects in the league, and has already had some success in the majors this season. He will be a star.

I like how Wake and others were saying they still have unfinished business. The Red Sox aren't exactly upsetting anyone by clinching a playoff spot. With this team, making the playoffs should be the expectation.

3 games behind NY. 6 games to play. Boston needs help from Minnesota and Toronto, but they also need to take care of business.

It'll be interesting to see how Francona and company handle the roster if Boston gets close heading into the final series with Baltimore.

On one hand, we're in the playoffs, so there's no use burning out players just to get the division. On the other hand, homefield advantage is a big deal.

Kazmir dominated us again tonight. He's only made 5 MLB starts, but it seems like he has a bright future (at least when he faces Boston).

I was there last night so just a few thoughts on last night's game:

80% of the fans were Sox fans. It was unbelievable. Damon looked up into the stands after his homerun and seemed to be in shock of all the Sox fans. Aldo, Damon's Disciples were in leftfield I believe. Giant "Yankees Suck" chant started after the game in the tunnel on the way out of the stadium. It felt like Fenway, except in a dome.

After the game on the field, Cabrera and Reese did the usual point up the sky and then hugged at 2B. Schilling and Pedro hugged right in front of a camera near a dugout which was pretty funny (obviously staged because of the Schill's radio comments). I got Theo's autograph before the game right by the dugout and had like a 30 second conversation with Papa Jackson after the game. All and all it was a blast and great seats by the dugout only cost 50 bucks each,
