what was managment thinkning when they made this deal...all the sox got for nomar was orlando cabrera and doug mientkiewicz. the sox did not get full value for nomar and practically gave the cubs the world series
Posted
ermm no, nomars a whiny little bitch and we got tired of it. orlando cabrera is a highly valuable SS, made the NL allstar team the past two years. mientkiewicz is a gold glove first baseman. basically we got defense out of this deal, what we need. im very happy with this trade, and with a new D, everyones ERA will now go down. and nomar wasnt gunna be re-signed ANYWAY, so im glad we got people for him.

we could have gotten a batboy for nomar and it would have been a good deal. He was a BIG baby. Okay, he was awesome for years but the team changed -the dominican boys, millar, Nixon, Varitek, dirt dogs, I think Nomar's intensity made him aloof and he probably was as miserable as he made everyone else. I personally dont forget how s***** he was last september either and bull crap first pitch crap is selfish.. I think he over did it with weights (hmmm, steriods--the guy's locker is still warm and I bring that up...lol...Maybe Mia was like Yoko and turned him on the sox) Seriously, injuries..attitude, lack of clutch...no one puts better numbers up on the board when we are getting creamed or we are creaming some one else. But last septmebr last septemeber and last september.

AND, he would be leaving without question at the end of the season and we would have gotten nothing. Instead we got two gold glovers, and really good ballplayers. Harold Reynolds, whom I respect immensely says Carbrera is theamong one of the "MOST" underrated ball players in national league and among one of the best shortstops in the majors, and he had a higher on base pct. tha Nomar last year.

The deal was actually a major winner for everyone I think. I have been critical of Theo, but this deal has changed my mind. even if it is a bust---right now I think its fanatstic.

Gave th Cubs the world series??????Because of Nomar...no that's a laugh.

Good job sox...! Great job

thats right,

and the cubs were sucking it up this year anyway...theyre not going to win the NL Central, the cards are too hot, and the wildcard is gunna be the phillies or braves, whichever doesnt win the east. the cubs wont even be in the playoffs this year.

allright, i can agree that we got the needed defensive help but i would feel much more comfortable with a healthy nomar in the lineup than an orlando cabrera. i will give it some time to pan out but i don't think cabrera is going to be able to fill nomar's shoes completely

no he wont, but he is one of the most underrated SSs in the MLB, he doesnt get noticed much because he was on MON, but if we can get renteria to play SS next year and cabrera at 2B, i will be very satisfied. who would u rather have? bellhorn and pokey? or cabrera and renteria? hopefully this is a possibility, that would be one of the best 2B-SS combos in the league.

renteria would be a nice addition and bellhorn is much better than pokey but i'm still worried about this season. we haven't been playing as well as i thought we could and i don't know that cabrera has any postseason experience. it would have been nice to have nomar at least for the rest of this season.

on a side note...i was curious, how is mientkiewicz going to fit into the daily lineup? we already have millar at 1b so it doesn't seem like doug will be playing every day

I, too, would've liked to have kept Nomar, but we can't dwell on the past. Mientkiewicz will finally give us a first baseman who can field, and I'm optimistic that he's gonna find his bat too. Dougie is certainly better than a .246 hitter and I think Fenway might be a place he can show it. Cabrera is a gold glove shortstop, and what's wrong with that? We'll have the fielding we wanted from Pokey, but I think his bat is/will be better. Plus, being on a team that is not the Expos could give Cabrera an extra morale boost. Let's also not forget the money saved now and in the future by trading Nomar. That money could be handy in the off- season. The hole that now exists in the middle of our lineup will be irreplaceable. However, if Mientkiewicz can bat around .275/.280 with the Sox and Cabrera can bat over .250, their golden fielding might save us some runs and that hole will not be needed as much.

I 100% believe that Orlando Cabrera is going to revert to his 40-double, 20-homer, .300 BA form for the Sox and they will sign him to an extension for at least two years, possibly more.

wow, did I call the Orlando Cabrera thing a couple days ago?

Orlando's a very solid ballplayer. Can't blame anyone for sucking in Montreal...where the only motivation is to play well enough for someone else to want you. I think this deal works out best for all parties:

Minnesota's committed to Morneau at first Mientkiewicz (sp?) was pretty much the odd man out.

Orlando was unhappy in Montreal. The Expos pick up some prospects.

The Cubs needed a bat at shortstop....they got one of the best.

Finally, the Red Sox. Weak first base defense is strengthened. Cabrera is no Nomar with the bat, but he's better than Nomar with the glove. Dave Roberts I think is a big pickup....The Sox needed speed of the bench, and they got it!

I honestly think after the Randy Johnson/Nomar thing fell through, this was the best option. Cabrera is VERY underrated (as I stated a few days ago) and should be good in Boston.

Cabrera had to fly from Montreal to Puerto Rico between homestands he had it oroug with all that flying I think he will have a much better rest of the season away from the Montreal/Puerto Rico/Washington? Expos.

How many times did Nomar use the word "phenominal" when talking about the Cubs and the city of Chicago on Saturday and Sunday? He'll do the same thing out there that he did in Boston. Say all the right things, make the fans love him and wind up hating ownership the way he did here. Nomar knows how to butter the bread, he just doesn't like it when the jam shows up.
Posted

I think Nomar's hatred toward's Boston's ownership was his own fault, really. If he'd accepted the very fair deal of 4 years, $60 million we wouldn't be talking about his future with the Cubs....

Nomar got greedy. He said things like "I love Boston, and I want to retire here" to the fans, but he should have said "I love Boston, and I'd love it if they overpaid me to stay here. Otherwise, I'm gunna hit the market and let someone else overpay for me."

In multiple reports, it states that he wasn't the most friendly with his teammates, he never spoke with media, and he was too sensative.

I hate to say "addition by subtraction," because Nomar is a great player, and a professional on the field...but he can't possibly have been well-liked in the clubhouse.

I keep saying this in different threads....but I'll say it again. Superstars don't win championships. TEAMS win championships.

We (The Red Sox) picked up 3 MLB players who should really help this team.

Now NOmar wants to go out and play every day what a lieing piece of s*** wow that's messed up if he playes every day and "would have gone on the DL" with us.

Really good article on it here. Simmons is just a good writer.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/040802

Best line:"They couldn't win a one-run game to save their lives -- you can't beat good teams when you have 27 outs and the other guys have 30. "

I love D - hense my love of Pokey over Mark Brokenthumb. YOU DON'T NEED 6 RUNS A GAME TO WIN A GAME.

I'm officially for the trade.

Posted

I've stated time and time again that I'm FOR this trade, and I stand by it. I think it's about time this team went more towards a TEAM atmosphere than a STAR atmosphere.

I think we'll find that we are a better team with Orlando, Mientkiewicz, and Roberts than we were with Nomar...

I applaud Theo for making a bold move after the Trio f-ed up the Nomar situation. It was the right move (to trade him) and although we didn't get a pitcher, this was a good move.

Posted

I agree with every word of that. I applaud the fearsome foursome for having the balls to do what's right for the team and the fans and not bowing to the star pressure. Nomar turned down 6o million for four years. If he love it here so much he would have suffered through making 15 million a year to stay here.

The cubs will have a honeymoon period but enough pop-ups in clutch situations and few mysterious injuries and they will whining to send him back!

they can have him.
