Luis is currently hitting .346 with 5 HR in the Gulf Coast League.

I'll try to keep people up to date as I hear things....but Luis is pretty low-profile right now.

Update: With the Sox purging their minor league system a bit this offseason, Luis Soto is up to #11 on the prospect list.

Scouting report according to soxprospects.com

Scouting Report: According to Director of former International Scouting Louie Eljaua, "Luis brings a special blend of talent and instincts every time he steps on the field. He has an advanced hitting approach at the plate for someone his age, and he is very athletic with above-average arm strength." Soto's swing is nearly flawless. High ceiling at the plate. Great speed and excellent in the field. Converted to an outfielder in the spring of 2005.

A toolsy player who has yet to put up big numbers as of yet. Probably will start in A ball this year but at 20 years old still has time to develop.

He's my adopted prospect from 2004-- really there's no news surrounding this guy.

Outfielder Luis Soto has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with an injured. He has been sent to the Boston Red Sox extended training camp in Fort Myers, Fla. for an MRI. He has been replaced on the roster by outfielder Bubba Bell.

Luis Soto fractured the hook of his hamate bone and had surgery four days ago. The healing process for that is about six weeks, so he’ll be out until late June or early July.

He has tons of tools but has not progressed as quickly as the red sox want him too and the fact is he cannot stay healthy. He is also still learning to play right field which is not an easy transition from shortstop.
