Sucks to be Malaska. "Sorry kid, we'd rather have the guy with the torn rotator cuff who has been getting pimp-slapped all season than you."

no kidding JM..what are we thinking, just what we need some stiff to pitch batting practice...alan embree can get shelled just fine without adding another bum to the mix. If we wanted a rightie to get "bitch slapped" couldn't we just bring up Mendoza.

How about a legitimate 5th starter, and better use of the staff.....williamson is back...

Let's start a winning streak tonight..come on now!

Well, if Leskanic can pitch even CLOSE to as well as he did last year, our bullpen problems could largely go away. I just feel sorry for Malaska's ego. For only 200k, this isn't a bad gamble by Theo at all.

This concerns me a bit since there's rumors of the Sox trading Williamson in a deal for Beltran.

Was Leskanic brought in to replace Williamson?

I certainly hope NOT.

you just worried me there, swilly is our best noncloser reliever. embree can only throw 90 mph fastballs, timlin is too inconsistent

nonetheless, leskanic will help us tremendously. he will add much needed experience and depth

Yea, you worried me too with that. Not solely beacuse of Williamson, but because of all the problems the Beltran trade would bring to the team....

Red Sox sign RHP Leskanic

June 22, 2004

BOSTON (Ticker) - Righthander Curtis Leskanic, who was released by the Kansas City Royals last week, on Tuesday signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox for the remainder of the season.

Leskanic fell out of favor in Kansas City after losing the closer's job given to him after Mike MacDougal went down early in the season with a stomach virus. He was 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in 19 appearances for the Royals, allowing 23 hits in 15 2/3 innings.

With the Red Sox, Leskanic will be used as a setup man for closer Keith Foulke.

To make room on the roster, Boston optioned lefthander Mark Malaska to Class AAA Pawtucket of the International League. Malaska was 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 16 relief appearances for the Red Sox.

I liked Malaska, its a shame to see him sent down really. But he'll be back soon enough, hopefully.

It'll be a while before we see Malaska again. Sure, it was great that he could get the lefties out, but righties absolutely tear him apart.

who is that? why am i even doing this? why did i ever listen to my friend if he's the one getting money?
