"Ramiro Mendoza (shoulder tendinitis) has begun throwing lightly in Fort Myers, but is still experiencing some soreness".

I dont mean to kick a korean when he's down, but kim has been and is awful. I am just wondering out loud but does anyone know what Kim and Mendoza are paid. I would bet that between them it is a lot.

For some reason the redsox stick with some guys way beyond the obvious point of no return . The payoff on Mendoza for example alludes me. Last year and now he has done nothing. Kim, yeah, had some saves, but for the most part hasnt been very good.

I say it's time to give the big sinanara to these guys and use the money elsewhere?

I couldn't agree more, particularly about Kim. I don't want to slate any man with a red 'B' on his hat, but everytime Kim takes the mound - everytime he goes into his wind-up, drops down, and releases that bizarre submarine pitch - I get a cold feeling in my stomach. Last night's performance should convince Francona that Kim is not a starter. Nor is he a reliever. In fact, he isn't much of a closer. Damn...we should sell him to the Yankees!

I started getting sick to my stomach after that first double when Kimmy was throwing his pick-off's pokey, while he was still at shortstop.

I never have understood why they stuck with kim, after last year. I mean they gave suppan and sauerback the gate.

Brandon looked great last year and I think is a perfect 5th starter--no question.

I hope they just send Kim down or ship back to the old country. Even mop up duty is too much for that guy. Remy was saying he has no velocity on his fastball, he was lucky if he could break 84 or 85. I thought the Guardians would knock over the wall they were pounding him so hard. Poor daubs, he finally gets a start and its like a shooting gallery.

I'm glad Arroyo is getting the nod. I want to see what this guy can do. I always get ragged on for picking Arroyo over Kim for the #5, but have any of you looked at Arroyo's career numbers and put them into perspective?

First, he's a winner. In his minor league career (including 177 starts) he was 83-44 with a 3.81 ERA. 852 K/ 290 BB.

In what amounts to roughly 1 year of service (203 innings) he went 9-14 with a 5.19 ERA for the crappy Pirates.

Since his call-up last year in boston, he's gone 44 IP, 37 H, 18 ER, 3.75 ERA, 37 K, 13 BB. Certainly good enough for a #5. On top of that, he's been consistant and shown he can pitch through the Yankees - even in the playoffs.

He's only 27 and I don't think he's injury prone. I'd really like to see what kind of numbers he can put up over, say, 10-15 starts on a good team.

nice. Good case. Grady actually gave the kid a chance in rare good move, and the kid has always been pretty sharp. Certainly has the maturity and poise. And like you say he is a winner.

I think Kim's awful outings have sealed the deal. So now we see.

I'd like to see us get on a good roll. Last nights game was of the agonizing wall ball games, where no lead is safe and the bullpen had one of those rare collective collapses.

It's nice to see the daubach's and mccarty's (nice face dive) chipping in and Millar hitting.

Mueller is a bit of a concern, lot's E's and some poor at bats.

Is it just me or does he seem like he is injured and not a 100%?

 In 3 years time you'll be regretting the Kim bashing when hes on the yankees, getting 10 k's/9 innings, has a low 3 ERA and wins a ton. Oh wait, thats what he does now. :( (look at seasons past).

Mendoza, yea fine, get rid of him. Our bullpen is fine as it is, and we don't need this yankee sympathizer on our team. :) Maybe for now Bronson should get the nod over kim, but Kim should start in the future.

Here are some great lefties:

an * means that it's within reason that the sox could get him

*Barry Zito

Mark Mulder

*Odalis Perez

Randy Wolf

Mark Redman

Eric Milton

Al Leiter

*Randy Johnson

Tom Glavine

Personally, having Curt and the Big Unit together is appealing, but I think Perez is more realistic, and Zito is better.

Why is it not realistic for the sox to get Milton? Isn't he a FA next year? And I wouldn't want the big unit on the sox, even if he is dominant. Too old for my tastes. He just looks like he's about to fall apart.

I've jumped off of the Milton bandwagon. Surprise, surprise, but Steve convinced me of not wanting Milton any more (NetSporters know who I'm talking about). I had no idea how extreme of a flyball pitcher he was. It would be like getting Jarrod Washburn, who is immensely overrated as well.

The key for success at Fenway is either missing a lot of bats via the K, or inducing groundballs. Well, that's the theory anyway and the reason for Lowe's lack of success this season has been his inability to consistently get that groundball, not to mention some shoddy defense behind him.

I also think the whole "lefty starter being a necessity" is ********, especially for a guy who makes 15+ starts at Fenway. We need a guy who can get people out; who cares what hand he throws the ball out of anyway. Besides, we have Abe Alvarez, who could be ready as early as next season should the Sox deem him so, and two twenty year-olds in Juan Cedeno and Jon Lester who are all top prospects for left-handed starters on the way.

What is this netsports thing I keep reading about? Anyway, glad to see you got off of the Eric Milton bandwagon, he does suck.

And while I see your point about lefties, I think it is at least somewhat important to have a lefty starter. It mixes it up a little and forces the opposing manager to make roster moves, maybe put weaker hitters in to face a lefty and so on. It gives the Sox flexibility. But it isnt as big a deal as some say it is, I'll give you that.

www.baseball.com- Sign on, get hooked. NetSports is Internet crack for baseball fans. It has all the benefits of talking baseball and all the side-effects of Yankee fans.

My thought process with Milton was that I had assumed that he was a groundball pitcher, but I assumed wrong and a Sox-fan, stat-head named Steve showed me the light, because I was too lazy to look it up myself.

As far as needing a lefty, a .200 BAA against lefties is a .200 BAA against lefties, no matter what hand the hitter throws the ball out of. Prime example: Andy Pettitte. The Anti-Pettitte: Mariano Rivera.
