I don't want to trade Abreu: I want to dump Masa and Hicks. Those are the biggest perks of the trades, besides adding two good RH'd bats.

Hicks has had a good career as a RP. Keep him in that role.  Is he really even overpaid? He makes $12.5 mill this season.  Former Red Sox washout Brad Keller just signed for $11mill AAV.  Trading Hicks is probably a bad move, especially if you’re using him to reduce what you get back for topflight players…

It's more about the $24M/2 and $10.2 AAV x 2 than his lack of hope.

There wasn't anything good about his stint in the bullpen and he was the first guy to leave the clubhouse every night per reports.

I'm not against the idea that he could rebound. I was merely looking for a way to add two bats, since adding one big one seems like a lost cause, right now.

I don’t know if the Red Sox think Hicks is worth another look, or not, but I don’t think, because they kept a roster spot for him is anything more not wanting to just dump his salary. If he was making what the other guys were he might be gone, or he might not.

He has no options, so he's still around, because they want to take another look. It might not be a confident look, but he'd be gone by now, if they did not want to have a look-see.

I think ST will be big for him, or not. Dumping $24M isn’t an easy decision.

It wasn't a $24M DFA dump, which is never easy: it was getting another team to take his full salary to even out the imbalance of the other trade pieces- like Duran>> Baty, but Duran+ Hicks= Baty + Suarez.

You’re right.  He pitched 3.1 IP in relief for the Giants.  But he still changed roles mid-season, and that might have impacted.  Even if it’s didnt,he still only gave Boston 19 IP last year and Thsts not exactly a significant sample size.  He can certainly bounce back…

Maybe teach Hicks a splitter.  All you need is a live arm and a grip, and I literally posted a Kevin Gausman video of him teaching you his grip, which is kind of dumb on his part if Im being honest.

The splitter is a cheat code.  Ban it or teach it to every pitcher you have.

I do think many pitchers did better than expected. Hard to know if Bailey had a hand in any.

My thoughts on the devers trade aside, generally speaking, if a team is like ill only do this if you take back this "bad contract" and you think well - he makes 12m but we think we can get 8m in value out of him, you may view the contract as underwater but close enough to par that youre willing to make the swap

Unfortunately I think that Hicks is going to have to provie 200m in value to make the trade worth it and thats um, not gonna happen.  Unless he learns to hit.

You forgot Harrison will be worth $192M, so $8M is all we need from Hicks.
