I meant in terms of the market, our needs, value, etc, Skubal would be an astronomical get, but it ain't happening.

I was pretty keen on Bieber last week, but then he threw 6 walks in the first inning and I remembered he does that sometimes, and I soured quickly. The price would have to be quite low for me.

Something about Ray rubs me the wrong way, and I'd prefer a righty, but I either Mize or Singer would be excellent gets.

If SD agrees to this trade, we do it everyday and twice on Sundays.

No one is mortgaging the future for Singer. lol. But he is exactly what we need right now.

I would try and get it done without Phillips, but if that is what it took, so be it. We have a ton of pitching prospects/depth and at least 4 good starters locked in for the next several years. Uberstine is the most likely to contribute this year if we need it, but for an established starter we can plug into #5, he is expendable for me. But yeah, Mullens would def be my first offer.

Look closer. And a depth SP is literally what we need. We aren't getting an all-star.

I am thinking a pitching prospect in our 10-15 range? Phillips, Holobetz, Uberstine, or Mullins. Their choice. And maybe another mid-level chip. Do you think that would get it done?

Meh, you gotta give to get. I would give JD and Marcy for Springer at this point IF that is what the Jays asked for. Scherzer was just a fun throw-in I thought could be worth a shot to open for Bello, and would be good in the clubhouse either way. I don't actually care about getting him. Mayer is a few years removed from being a good prospect. He has shown so far he cannot stay on the field, and when he is on the field he sucks. I am entirely ready to cut our losses on him for someone that can help us right now.

I wouldn't hate it, but not sure he moves the needle much either. I think we could do better for RH LF if we are committing to someone beyond this year. But straight up for JD? Sure, why not.

I would adjust your thinking. NYM is not trading Soto for a package headlined by Roman Anthony. It would take our entire farm system.

After a poor start to the year, Singer posted a 3.08 ERA in June and a 2.37 ERA in July. He is pitching extremely well and has been a durable innings eater. He pitches in a hitter friendly park. He is a UFA so should be cheap. This is the same forum that thinks Seth Lugo and his over 5.00 ERA in the last 2 months and on the hook for 20M next year should be our top target. C'mon now. lol

Yeah, I am definitely not willing to die on the Mad Max hill. lmao. Just thought he would be a fun little gamble with zero risk. He would not negate us getting another SP. My realistic target is Brady Singer. He started slow but is an innings-eater and pitching great(2.37 era) over the last month.

That's fair. If he had a longer track record I would cut him some more slack. But with less 400 AB's in his career vs lefties, for me it's more "what have ya done for me lately" than a more seasoned vet. Siegler is outperforming him this season by every metric from, both sides of the plate, and plays a better D, Like I said, until Romy earns his role, he can sit on the bench.

lol. I know he's old af. My thinking was worst case ontario he makes a nice player coach if he gets a blister. Best case, he finds enough in the tank for one last playoff push, and he can be the opener Bello seems to require to remember how to pitch. I would still target another a real SP.

Oh damn, didn't mean to insult ya boy. haha. But yeah, he's ass, sorry. 😅 The only thing he is good for is hitting lefties, and he hasn't been able to do that all season. He's done nothing to earn more AB's. When he's hitting lefties he has value, but he's not. So imo nothing changes at 2B by getting Springer. Siegler is my everyday 2B either way until we get help from the IR or Romy shows a pulse.

I didn't take it critically just genuinely confused. lol Are you saying that Romy has to play 2B more if we got a full time DH? Romy has played like absolute ass this year. He's entitled to nothing. He's lucky if we let him sit on the bench behind Siegler and not send him down. Mead also avoided surgery and is projected(yeah, I know🤣) to be back this season, so he could still factor in.

I'm basically with you on this, except if the best hitter we can get is better suited to DH, I am fine with Masa in LF. The only wrinkle is that there are not a lot of great rental options. Are we open to someone longer term? Which would pretty much lock RA into DH when he returns and past this season. In which case we better hope Mead can play a proficient 2B. But if that is the route, I think Heliot Ramos is an intriguing option. His metrics show that Oracle park is really suppressing his numbers. Eh, maybe not. I was never that high on Mayer to begin with. Now I'm pretty much over him. Can he still be a decent player? Sure. But what do we think his ceiling is at this point? And where does he fit into our future? Maybe 2B still if Mead sucks and has to be moved to elsewhere, but right now I think we're penciling in Mead and Arias up the middle. We also have Godbout coming along as well. Mayer is 100% expendable for me. If the Jays wanted him instead of some younger prospects, he's gone and I wouldn't think twice. Maybe that's just me.

I honestly think he could be a really sneaky good pick up, Especially for a team who plays at Fenway(us). Low risk with a potential high reward if he can stay healthy for a few months. Not my first choice, but I wouldn’t be mad if he got him for a song. Him and Brady Singer would be a deadline that I would be fine with.
-
I never said he was. Isn’t Siegler/Romy our current 2B pairing? Am I missing something? Scherzer I thought could be an interesting throw-in to open games for Bello and pitch 2 or 3 innings tops And be a strong presence in the clubhouse. I’m certainly not dying for him nor would I expect a lot from him. His Era looks bad after a tough start and being injured most of the year, but I still see some a little value there. Either way, I’m leaning towards Brady Singer as my top SP target as far as bang for your buck.

No worries. Wasn't trying to be a dick, either. lol. I can get a little snarky when debating, but it's all in good fun. I was interested in Bleday for a minute too(and still would be for a decent price) but then I read he was team controlled and the Reds were unlikely to move unless compelled by a really good offer. Not to beat a dead horse, but I think Springer is perfect if the price isn't too steep. I would take a chance on Robert Jr. next. He has also been hitting well since returning from injury, and if he stays healthy has the talent to be a difference maker. Wouldn't hate T. Ward but not sure he moves the needle that much. Gurriel would have to be a very buy low as has been atrocious this season. Not really sure why.

Jays have a lot of question marks in the outfield next year with Varsho likely gone. They might take a flyer on him. Duran and Mayer for Springer and Max Scherzer? Who says no? Pair Mad Max with Bello as a tandem.
