Exactly. Yoshi splits with Jones and backs up Springer. The only loss on D is because we are benching or trading Duran, which everyone wants anyway. Big net positive if you ask me.

I'd pass. Neto is the most overrated "big" name out there this deadline, imho. His D is sus and he is a .750 guy. that can hit a few HR's. I wouldn't mind him for the right price but not for Arias or Eyanson. I might consider Witherspoon, Mayer, Rivas. Agreed. No need to platoon him at DH. And I'm willing to toss this years overall stats out the window on him. Monster year just last season. Started the year with a significantly decreased bat speed for some reason but as it got up to his normal levels, he started getting hot. Proven playoff performer. Winning mentality. Huge numbers over his career at Fenway. Can still steal some bases. No brainer to me if the price is within reason.

Did you not read my reply to you in the wishlist thread? He is not a UFA. Cincy owns his rights until '29 and aren't trading him unless someone gives them a strong offer. There are better options.

Yes, he is a clear upgrade over both those guys, imo. Why would he be a platoon? His career OPS vs righties is ,820...

That's more or less what I've been saying. But people trying to tell me that he's gonna cost more than Jeffers.

Walks where? Spring training for the Reds? Do you even look things up before posting? Google is your friend. He is under team control for a few more years.

That’s all totally fair. I’m prepared to be wrong on my assessments. If Springer costs more than Jeffers, than ofc you go Jeffers. I just don’t see how that could be. Yanks and Rays aren’t going to just let us have him without a fight, Yanks C duo is worse than ours. And Rays are rumoured to want him as well. I just don’t see the same competition for Springer, but again I could wrong. I’d be surprised if we had to include Gonzalez or Azocar for him. Maybe Godbout which I’d be fine with. Him and Holobets maybe? One more fun stat of Springer’s to consider. He owns a career .947 OPS at Fenway.

Springer and Sonny Gray are nearly the exact same age. Springer is currently healthy and hitting the ball well. As a rental, his age is entirely irrelevant. The only thing that really matters is what he would cost us.

Huh? I never said they were a good comp. You brought up Duran, not me. I’m not saying Jeffers is worth Eyanson and Gonzalez, but that IS the comp of what Philly paid for Duran. I’m saying to OUTBID the Yankees, Rays and Dodgers, among others, Jeffers price will be far above what he is worth. Love how you just ignored the part where I just proved you dead wrong, too. Lmao So I ask, again, what do you think it will cost us, specifically, to land Jeffers?

Per MLB.com… “Trade Return Details Philadelphia Phillies received: RHP Jhoan Durán (noted for his 100 mph fastball and high-leverage bullpen dominance). Minnesota Twins received: C Eduardo Tait (MLB No. 56 prospect at the time) and RHP Mick Abel(MLB No. 92 prospect). [1, 2]

For the record, I would be more than happy to eat my words on this. I’m not anti-Jeffers, just anti getting into a bidding war with multiple teams on him, when I believe there are more prudent options out there.

And? He fetched 2 top 100 MLB prospects. The equivalent of us giving up Eyanson and Gonzalez right now. Jeffers is a rental, yes, but he could be the only well above avg C available, with numerous teams in need of one. If anyone thinks we are getting Jeffers without a mininum of one of our top 3-6 guys and probably another top 12 guy, I say they are dreaming.

Not sure why you brought up Lowe then. lol I’m trying to talk about realistic scenarios. Again, for the same price, I might take Jeffers. But I disagree they are anywhere near the same price. To me Springer would cost us no more than say a Valera and Romero type of package, or something in that range. They might even be interested Mayer. If our offer for Jeffers is Valera and Romero, the Yanks or Rays can beat that easy, and will thank us for not driving the price up higher. What do you honestly think Jeffers would cost us? And sure, get Gleyber too, for another mid level prospect. He should cost less than any of them.

I think we mainly disagree on the price of these guys. Sure, if the price is the same I might take the other guys. But Pitt looks like buyers, and are probably only trading Lowe for someone that helps them this year. As mentioned, Jeffers will be a hot commodity due to scarcity. You say you don’t want Springer just because of his “small sample of great playoff hitting and heroics”. But you wanna try to outbid the Yanks, Rays and Dodgers for a guy who his hitting almost .200 OPS points above his norm, in 160 AB’s this year. I’d rather buy low(if possible) on Springer and his almost .900 career playoff OPS in 83 games, then buy high on Jeffers 1/4 season breakout. Who cares how old he is? He is healthy, hitting very well right now, and is a rental. We only need a few months out of him.

Springer is 36 and less than a year removed from 32 dingers and a .959 OPS. He has championship pedigree. And we shouldn’t need to give up anyone that we should be too worried about giving up in the division. Bleday is decent, but not a great track record, and Cincy has no huge motivation to move him so would likely cost us a slight overpayment.

I could be wrong, but Yankees need a RH catcher way more than we do. You think they are going to just let us snag him for a couple of scrubs? Add in the Rays who have a deep system, and LAD sniffing around, and I think the price ends up being way more than it should be for him.

I wouldn’t sneeze at any of these guys, but I don’t see any of them moving but France. And if you’re giving me the option of who I want in a big at bat in a game that counts, I’m taking Springer all day everyday over Ty France.

I don’t see why one would rule out the other. In fact, if we got Gleyber, George, a solid #4-5 starter, and gave up less than it would take to get a Neto or something, I’d call that a great deadline.

I’m not enamoured with him, but what do you think he costs? My guess is more than I think he’s worth in terms of how much of an upgrade he is for us. He is a decent bat, but hasn’t proven to be able to get the most of his pitching staff. Not saying it’s his fault NYM’s rotation sucks, but they traded for a so-called ace who is now having a very down year. Hicks I like much more than him. Let’s not forget that Narvaez is still just in his 2nd year and was as good or better last year than Alvarez is now. Who’s to say he doesn’t pull a Durbin and finally get rolling.

I think you are off on Jeffers’ cost. Unless Goodman is truly available, you are going to have a bidding war for him as the next best catcher, with NYY, TB, and LAD among teams in the market. He could easily cost us 2 top 3-10 prospects to outbid those teams. Springer should cost us no more than 2 top 7-15 prospects, imo. Jeffers is hitting WAY above his career avg’s in a small sample size this year, and is not a great defensive catcher. Springer has a long track record of big hits in big games, is looking like himself after a very bad start. His bat speed was way down to begin the year, but is now back to last years levels, and lo and behold, is heating up over the last several weeks. No brainer for me.

I am mostly in agreement, but if the market is not there for those positions to get good value on someone, I would rather just get the best bat we can without giving up the farm. To me that is Springer. Trade Duran for a BP arm or prospect. If RA comes back he is LF. Yoshida to the bench. EZ. In a world where there are deals that make sense, yes I would rather have a position of greater need. But who? Jeffers is going to be an expensive rental, and is not even a great catcher. Liam Hicks is probably the only guy I think is worth a shake up there, but depends what he costs. I am not down for trading Arias for Neto. Maybe Lopez or Pena, but not if it takes multiple other good prospects. Monasterio has been very solid lately. Who is out there for a SS rental that is a clear upgrade? Plus, Story might be more likely to return before Roman, so we could still get help there. 2nd base there may be some more options. Maybe Casey Schmidt? But for me that would not negate adding a guy like Springer if the price is still right. His upside for a healthy playoff push is too much for me pass on. If we are not making a big deal for an all-star type, I could easily see 3 or 4 lesser deals.
