  1. Ill take 800-820 from the corners. 850 + isnt easy for most. Whats the average mlb ops for 3b this year? That would be more of a fair comparison
  2. Exactly...anyone saying that Moncada has been "exposed" hasnt a clue. He is a 20-21 yo kid who was given a COC in MLB waaaaay before he was truly ready. Hes only played in 100 professional games.. He's getting a great learning experience being up here and watching the other guys take care of business... talking to Papi, Hanley, Pedey and all the vets, taking it all in. My guess is he should get time in winter ball and a full year in AAA at 3b...Unless his perfromance dictates a quicker rise to Boston. But I wouldnt count on him to start in Boston in 2017..
  3. I was talking when all is said and done. He will have adjustments first of course, but like Mookie, i think his hit tool is plenty good enough to be a leadoff guy...which was my main point And yes, i think Beni can be around a 380 obp.
  4. The real question is...is Clay worth 13m to give us 15 great starts?
  5. Dude, enough already. Everyone knows you didnt want the trade. The fact that you have let us know all friggin year has gotten very very stale...last i checked we won the division with him...
  6. They had holaday come in for Leon instead of Vaz, im guessing Farrell wants to see him and Vaz before he makes the decision who the PO catchers are. Vaz should win that one out IMO. He has looked better than Holaday in his limited action.
  7. Beni looks like he could be a solid leadoff hitter. I really dont see a prolonged slump from him. The bat is too good. Too much plate coverage. I see a 300BA with a High obp. 380-400ish. I also can see 20+ dingers and 20sb. Seems like a logical choice to leadoff.
  8. I like Hernandez as well. I dont think hes a permanent option, but hes earned a "next in line" behind Shaw Hill and Holt. Pablo, IMHO, has hurt this team with his selfishness. He was paid 17-18M a year, and then come to camp looking like a friggin blimp, then lose your job to the rookie and wind up messing your shoulder up, Probably related in some way to being in such bad shape, certainly doent earn you a shot at 3b before these guys. I dont think shaw needs a fire lit under him. Hes still young and still making adjustments. He may never end up being more than a streaky 260 hitter with 25 bombs. Kinda like Napoli. Maybe that means sticking with him even after a couple months of underperformance. Let him work out of it while the rest of the team is good enough to carry a couple guys. Farrell didnt. The only RHHs out of the bunch is Hill and Hernandez. One should make the PO roster. I say Hernandez.
  9. Vaz looking solid so far today. Struck out 1st AB but made him throw 10 pitches. Work the count really good. Smokes a line drive double down the LF line his 2nd AB. Looks good on D so far. Getting a couple call strikes with good framing through four innings...I sure hope Farrell wakes up and starts playing him more. Especially if his bat is going to be productive when Leon has like three hits his last 30 something ABs. This is also not a knock on Leon. I really like him, and I want a Vaz/Leon Tandum if possible. I just want Vaz as the main guy.
  10. The good thing about having to pay certain guys is that we can. Not a lot of teams will even approach a 189M payroll like the Sox will...And be willing to go over it. Soon the LT should be at or around 200M. You have to trade young prospects sometimes. Its just part of the game. Even really good ones depending on whats going on in the organization. The trade has to be whats best for the organization. The Goal for every organization regarding trades is to get the best possible value back in return. DD seems pretty good at this. Kimbrel has been a good move. pomeranz was needed and looks to be a good/smart move, even if Espi works out. Bringing up Benintendi. Holding on to certain prospects/young players. Good draft getting Groome. So Id say hes done really well so far overall. I didnt like that they didnt sign Lester to what couldve been a 22M/5-6 year deal at the time. He is still going to be worth what the Cubs gave him into his mid 30s IMHO. I think Price has adjusted to his new team and will end up earning his pay. FA is always going to cost more, so 30M is fair for an Ace is todays MLB. Thats why locking up Lester was so important. We probably couldve had Lester and Porcello for 42M rather than 50M with Price. There is always those certain vets that your going to have to pay, including your own home grown talent when/if the time comes. Eventually your going to have to pay some of these guys. Thats just part of it. Unless your the Rays or Athletics of course. But were not The trick is to identify those in your own system and lock them up early if possible and your payroll allows.. Not all moves/deals will work out. But Between good drafting, development, trades/FA, and also figuring in injuries and underperformance that always happens, theres a lot going on for a Prez of Baseball ops and a GM to juggle. Theres always going to be deals that go wrong and prospects that dont work out, etc. you just have do more good than bad. Not easy, but I like who we have in the FO running thins right now.
  11. Hes still not fully back from shoulder surgery, hasnt faced MLB pitching in a long time, doesnt really look in much better shape....and Farrell is considering starting him in the playoffs? Is he out of his mind? To even consider this is ridiculous. Who cares what his PAST numbers say. Whats he look like Right now? To be able to get into not only game shape, but playoff game ready is asking way too much IMO. Shaw hasnt been a stud all year, but hes been a solid replacement with Holt subbing in when needed. Pablo is the one who lost his job being a selfish fat ass and the hurting his shoulder. He should get no consideration. Another reason for me to dislike Farrell and his managing style.
  12. Maybe you should look at the FULL body of work and not just a year where Vaz wasnt 100% back from TJS. Seriously? Thats what your basing your arguement on? This years stats for Vaz? Wow....talk about cherry picking to make an arguement. The bottom line is I woild be perfectly happy with a Vaz/Leon tandum behind the plate. Whan talking about a 2% CAREER difference in CS, its hard to say either one is really better. They are both solid defensive catchers. Vaz is better, but not by much.
  13. No he doesnt. Vaz 45% Leon 43% You may want re check your facts
  14. Exactly. Thats the juggling act GMs have every year. Who to go with and who to let go. Its a balance of salaries between young controllable players and guys approaching FA and their signability. Im sure they have a really good feel for who they have a better chance of signing. But bottom line is I dont believe all three will be here theoughout their arb years.
  15. Would LOVE to see this, and also see him get a couple hits. Maybe more playing time as a result. Hes a firey kid and I have to believe hes just itching to get in there and show them hes ready and 100%. Leons bat has been all but non existant (3-31 last 2 weeks) and Vaz is still the better defender. Vaz needs to take advantage of any playing time he gets.
  16. Good numbers all around Moon. Yes K/BB is the way to look at it in this situation. Hes walking less guys and still striking out a lot. Maybe not the most, but the best when compared to how many potential unearned runs hes walking. They are all deserving and nobody should complain if either of the three win it. My vote is for Porcello.
  17. I believe he will hit. Just personal opinion. He wont win any batting titles but I can see a line of 260 330 400. The BA will get better with regular ABs as a starter, but i can see around 260. Pitchers have all said how good he is and how much they enjoy throwing to him, so Thats not really even a question. I just think he needed more rehab. When he came back his accuracy on throws was way off. His offense was going to have to catch up to the D, which wasnt even 100% yet. Sending him to AAA was probably the best thing for his rehab and development. They are using the guys that got them there and will use Vaz as needed the rest of the way. Next year is a different story. Personally, I want to see him win the starting job in ST.
  18. Eventually, yes. I think hes got more work before he does that in MLB, But once he catches up to the speed of the MLB game, then yes. So adding those two guys, say by 2018, we could easily have 40-50 dingers between the two. My guess is at least one of Betts Bogey and Bradley are not going to be signed and will be traded before their arb years are up. With two of them signed with Boras, One being called MVP of the league, and all three MLB All stars, its gonna cost them north of 60m per to keep all three. Im sure they could afford it. My question is, what are they going to be seeking in years and AAV? We had to let Jacoby walk because of that. So there will be some hard decisions to make over the next three years with these three... Weve got a solid run of three years with this team. Hopefully we can capitalize on it a time or two and raise more trophies. That will make it easier when we have to let player(s) walk.
  19. Maybe Beni will contribute 20 over a full year. He certainly has that potential
  20. Some guys dont apply to the "prime age" rule...I said a long time ago on BDC that Beltre would be well worth a 5-6 year deal after his one year here. Many said no way because of the same reason you stated. Like Beltre, I think Hanley will age well into his age 35 year. The guy is in Phenomenal shape and a career almost 300 hitter. Seriously, I wouldnt worry about how Hanley ages over the next three years
  21. The great thing about Beni is there is NO platoon needed. Kid can hit LH or RH pitching.
  22. Clear runaway this year...and for 22M less;)
  23. If Delbac gets some pitch recognition hes going to leave the yard 40+ times a year in MLB. Kids a friggin beast.
  24. Hes about done. 34-35 and an ugly swing and bad pitch recognition. Or at least thats what he looks like at bat. Pitchers are fooling him. Cant even hit LHP that well. Id leave him off the PO roster and use Hernandez or someone. Seriously, i doubt they do that. Hes terrible.
