    The fact that Ortiz DH'd was a big part of his value. Because he was half-as-expensive as a dude who would have the same bat but play a lousy 1b. If you are an elite ss or an elite cf thats one thing. Other than that, its easy to overpay for defense. You should go D at Cf, ss, C and then if you need to fill a hole on the cheap. Because we need to save money at lf, for example, and we have nobody to put there, but we have no budget so might as well get a cheap guy who can defend. But you dont pay big dollars for lf d or 1b d

    The market is wrong on DH. Take advantage. According to the market , soto is worth 70m becasue he plays a bad OF. And honestly, whether he plays a bad OF vs just plays DH has more to do with a manager decision. Now if there was a great hitter who just had no position, he would be like 1/3 the price tag. Thats silly. 50m out of Sotos 70m is NOT from the fact that the manager plays him in the OF even though he stinks at it.

    An elite hitter who plays a position will cost you 70m/yr An elite hitter who is a DH will cost you 25m/yr Save the 45m and put anybody at 1b.

    You get a gift from dad and you break it, you gotta earn the next one. Mayer and campbell. They both start next year in aaa and get a chance either by outplaying someone making mlb money or via injury you start with your depth penciled in to starter roles and what are you gonna do when you have injuries next year and you will the options, being able to park dudes in the minors, is valuable. Its not only pitching where its useful. Position players get hurt too.

    your competing against the dodgers, and will have to cross 400m, maybe 500m And kyle tuckers defense has nosedived. Devers is not overpaid.

    If you are filling holes on major league team with internal candidates (e.g. guys with options), then you arent leaving room for much 40 man depth. Send down the dudes you can send down. Hoard.

    I dismissed some of your (and others) trade ideas because of high expectations of Duran. And Im here to take my L. I didnt say a barrier to the trade, I said a barrier to being okay with the trade. Last time you mentioned trading Duran , I jumped down your throat. Im not willing todo that anymore.

    weakest AL ive seen in my lifetime, but I dont mean to negatively contextualize the accomplishment. Im happy NOw had they missed, I would have screamed about losing playoff spots to deadline sellers 2 straight years , so glad that didnt happen but still..... Few years in a row now where at least 50% of the AL teams made the playoffs simply cuz somebodys gotta. A lot of that was the evaporating TV deals (limiting Texas ability to get back for example). But when you are losing out to teams like KC, Det last year (seller), Cle this year (seller), Rangers (no tv money, limiting them), losing out to teasm like this for yet another year in a row woulda been bad The bar was low but they cleared it and im happy. Now lets come back stronger with new players and not just "the team is mostly set". Mayer has to earn his way on to this team.

    I can when I screamed dont trade this guy , he''ll be our catalyst/spark/rally/leader in the playoffs. I guess I can blame myself for expecting too much.

    Right now, I would happily do Duran for Marte, but Im not sure they would. Marte is easy a top 3 hitting middle infielder and serviceable defensively. On a team friendly deal. I mean sign me up. Id even throw in a pitching prospect that isnt Tolle , Early, Witherspoon but if they demand witherspoon i prob do it. Cuz top talent is top talent and Marte is.
