    That’s all fine, and good, but the RedSox would have never paid JBJ the contract that the Brewers paid him, and yet took on that same contract for 2 more years after JBJ hit 160 for a guy who had 96 RBI. Now I know those 96 RBI were a career year, and probably won’t do it again, but at this point it is a head scratcher especially if the prospects don’t turn out.

    Prospects? Did someone say prospects? Prospects who might not ever play a meaningful inning for the Red Sox. Jeter Downs, or Wong might not play a meaningful inning either. Prospects are nothing more than that, which may never produce.

    The Sox did not trade Renfroe for JBJ, and take on a bigger salary to trade him off prospects, or not. Only Bloom knows why The JBJ deal was done in the first place.

    I don’t think Bloom is going to add starting pitching from the Bargain basement, and then add JBJ, and his $10M+ contract to be a 4th outfielder. He never would have paid JBJ the contract he got from the Brewers, but now he’s he going to pay him that for 2 years anyway after a 160 year?

    Yes the 96 RBI was a career year, or fluke by Renfroe, but the point was the Red Sox with a razor thin margin just to get into the post season needed all of those 96 RBI to do so, and even if Renfroe came back, or JBJ takes his place they may need the same kind of production to make it again, and not if Renfroe would have 96 RBI again, which he probably won’t.

    No he doesn’t pitch, and the Sox need a lot more help there, but I was talking about the 96 RBI that Renfroe had last year had to be made up somehow, and it would take a lot more than JBJ to do that.

    I’m all for having JBJ’s D back again, but where will the 96 RBI that Renfroe had last year be made up? While the Sox were a few games away from the WS they were also a razors edge away from not making the Post season at all, and needed everyone of those 96 RBI.

    Hamilton, and Williams not playing in Bowl game. Not surprised especially Hamilton.

    I just think if they are going to spend big again that next year will be the year, and Bogey, and especially Raffy should come first.

    Well said, and I’ve been saying since the off season began that how the Red Sox have done business in the past is the past, and Bloom wasn’t brought here to be like Dombrowski. Management said at the end of the season how they were to do business this offseason, and so far they have stuck to that plan, and to them being justified after getting into the post season last year. I don’t think JH wants to spend like he did in the past, and if he does I hope it’s on Bogey, and Raffy before he spends on anyone else. Next year will be the telltale sign after big contracts come off the books, but right now it’s short year contracts.

    I keep hearing about how high their payroll is, and that’s true, but most of that was built up before last year. They didn’t spend big last year, and right now indications suggest they won’t this year either. If they are going back to spending again I think that will come next year after big money comes off the books. Bogey, and Raffy should come first.

    I don’t think Bloom was brought here to be a big spender with a full checkbook. They didn’t sign Mookie even though they supposedly offered him $300M, but they knew he wasn’t gong to take it. If they don’t sign their own like Boogie and Raffy I don’t see them spending big for someone from the outside.

    Even if the Sox had the money, and desire to sign him, would there be enough money to sign Devers too?

    A tough schedule with a new HC, a new starting QB, probably a new starting RB, and another revamped O Line is quite a big challenge.

    I would have liked to have seen a rematch with Cincinnati though, because I think ND is better now then when the ist time they played.

    Agreed about the platoon, but is a platoon as important as it used to be? Starters don’t go as many innings anymore, and with openers happening more often the left/right thing just don’t seem as important. Suzuki is an interesting option, but if the Yankees are also interested I don’t see the Sox winning that bidding war.

    ND did not make it, and even though they finished at 11-1 i don’t think they were as good as their record indicated. If they would have played the same schedule in previous years as they did this year it would have been a tougher schedule, but a number of the teams were down this year like Wisconsin., and even though they got better as the season went along after they got their O Line straightened out, and better QB play I don’t think would have been able to match up with Bama, Georgia, or even the Ohio States of the world. Now they have a new coach who is young, and with no HC experience, which to me is a recipe for disaster. Administration was afraid ND would lose players, and coaches, so they jumped to quick. Next year they have a real tough schedule opening up at Ohio State, so even if Kelly would have stayed I don’t think they would have as good a record as in years past.

    Trade rejected by JH, and Bogey. Bogey is not going anywhere.

    At least Clemson, and Ohio State aren’t in the top 4 this year.

    Not much of a posse. No authority, or jurisdiction at all, but wears the posse label with honor, and distinction. The funny part is they fancy themselves like the Cartwrights, but are more like Barney Fife with Gomer, and Goober as the deputies. They just think they are mean. I don’t think they bite.

    Eovaldi was 26 when he had his last TJ, and Pax was 32 quite a big difference. I don’t think Sale is as good at 32 as he was at 26 TJ, or not.

    I don’t think at this point they are counting on Duran as being a starter, but if they don’t sign anyone else, and if he has a good spring training whenever that is that could change.

    Having a different opinion on Cora being the best manager the Red Sox ever had, or having a different opinion being the best CF the Red Sox ever had is not jumping down your throat, but you took it that way. I keep saying that the opinions on here are just a small sample of what is out there in Red Sox nation. Just listening to Felger, and Mas they were trashing the Bradley deal, and so were the callers. Like I said before I listen, and watch shows from Maine to Boston, and read papers from Maine to Boston, and not to mention MLB, and there lots of opinions I agree with, and some I don’t just like on here. I’ve been a Red Sox fan for 60+ years, and I form my own opinions on what I see. Just like with all the analytics thrown out there you can’t beat the eye test. That is better then all the analytics in the world, so if I don’t like something Cora does, or Bloom does I’m going to say it. It doesn’t mean I don’t like them, or don’t like the Red Sox.
